"narrative" poems
The epitome on the show is more than a dream turned true a timeless beauty stitched on the stone. The first sight hooks the eyeballs no star is a far cry from here it looks so close. A narrative feels so familiar is never old seen tons of times yet is a new Taj Mahal. Since the medieval eyes were dazzled by this monument of love the crave to eye on it once in a lifetime is in every lover’s heart! People of new ages flock here with the admiring birds on this air of everlasting romance never gone with the wind are mesmerised with love!

Taj Mahal
. And her arms enfold me, I lay my cheek against her breast. The shaking starts, the tears fall, as sobs emerge unhindered. Cries from way down deep, and I hear her heart, slow, steady, metronomic. So I follow its rhythm along a path richly bathed in warm sunlight. Through an archway and across a threshold shrine, the cemetery of the Ancients. A hundred thousand names, carved in marble, adorned with statues and plinths. Holding knowledge of old, and the sound of silence, like an abandoned library. The shadow of love hovers close, driving through midnight mists and leading me on. Practising narrative necromancy, reanimating old words, giving them life newly born, upon the first carved marbles, its names burnished with wisdom, and the anonymity of obscurity. There glows one name in forgotten script and I know my deepest identity, the weight of the aeons flows free into my mind, histories of the millennia. I know my Forest Lady holds secrets that belong to me. And she gestates them all, a coveted pregnancy. A path-working, an etherical dream, and her heart skips a beat, as another part of me crumbles and dies, to mingle with the dust of ancient knowledge. © Pagan Paul (11/07/18)

My Forest Lady Holds Secrets
Outside of a bar in a North Carolina strip mall, stone cold sober because I am scared to use my fake, I feel drunk as you sit next to me. Perhaps I am. I'd have to be to think maybe, maybe, maybe, when I know, I know, I know. Your hand brushes against mine, and you're saying the most beautiful words I've ever heard, and the fire in my heart spreads up, down, left, right. But it cannot spread just four inches outside of my body. It cannot set you on fire, too. We listen to each other and hear two very different things. You are birdsong outside of my window that I am eager to hear; I am traffic outside of your window you've learned to tune out at bedtime.   If there are nine million bicycles in Beijing, then Beijing is my insides and bicycles are your name, because it is written on my insides nine million times. But there are no bicycles on Antarctica. There is no use for them there, just as there's no use for my name to be perched on a straight girl's ribs. You tell me my weird hobby of listening to French rap music is awesome, that it's so cool that I'm teaching myself three languages, and that you want to be me when you grow up - I laugh, because you're several years older than me. Selfishly I catch every droplet of your praise.  I ruminate on it for hours, for days. It means more to me than it should. My name sounds like a compliment from your mouth. I try not to say yours too often, so you don't grow tired of me being around. If I can't set your insides on fire, I want you to want to be my friend. Even that feels like I ask for too much. In every scene, I see you in the foreground of the narrative. For me, it would be on honor to be one of your background characters. Narratives are richer with them anyway. I look at you and you are the Harry Potter movie marathon I wait months for. For you, I am the 2 am infomercial you fell asleep to. But I don't mind half as much as I should. Even white noise has its place in someone's life.

From the BBC today, Excerpt Why does Taylor Swift write so many one-note melodies? "It's easy to get distracted by her celebrity, but Taylor Swift is a once-in-a-generation songwriter. From the very beginning, she's displayed a knack for melody and storytelling that most artists never master. Take, for example, her first US number one, OUR SONG Written for a high school talent show, it's a fairly typical tale of teenage romance until the final lines: "I grabbed a pen / And an old napkin / And I wrote down our song." That's smart, self-assured songwriting for someone who wasn't old enough to vote. Notably, the lyrics insert the musician directly into the narrative - something she developed into a tried and tested trope. But Our Song also establishes another of Taylor's trademarks: The one-note melody. Excerpt Repetitive melodies that centre around a single note are part of that appeal. They emphasise her relatability by mimicking the cadence of speech. "They emphasise her relatability by mimicking the cadence of speech." "They emphasise her relatability by mimicking the cadence of speech." "They emphasise her relatability by mimicking the cadence of speech." Rebuttal Rhyme sells because the people you are selling too can remember your lyrics. They can relate to your song but if they cannot sing it themselves putting themselves in the 'first-person perspective narrative' they cannot feel as-if they have BECOME the artist and are living that moment as they remember it. Taylor Swift sings about teenage love and angst something EVERYONE ON EARTH understands. ALL POETRY BEGAN AS RHYME IN SONG. Cadences are singing statements that confer a discipline and unity. Song acts as a catharsis. The artist shares their pain in a way that is universally understood. If you want to sell a rock, literally a pebble, you will not sell it if it doesn't look like a rock. If it doesn't do what rocks do. If it is not what people remember a rock to be like. Nor will it sell if it is just like every other rock they have ever seen. It cannot convey an emotion unless it elicits emotion. One cannot even begin to feel emotional if one cannot remember easily the past and that includes lyrics one has heard that evoked said emotional state. It is horrifying to see HOW BADLY EVERYONE INSISTS that rhyme be obliterated in exchange for an intellectual or individual perspective NOT SHARED BY THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE. If you want to sell and make money you better start thinking about the 99% of people who are not geniuses. If your sole goal in life is to attract a genius to give you a great job because of how, "smart," they perceive you to be then fine. You are not an artist. You are an employee. A blank page waits for words that it will never see Created from the head of someone writing a story Characters, plot, setting, theme, are central to the tale Without them every narrative is simply guaranteed to fail Stakes and consequences must exist for someone to pursue Whether treacherous of heart, or noble, brave, and true And if these traits stand not alone but mixed in with the rest That simply adds more intrigue to the outcome of the test Will he get the girl?  Will she rise above her station? Can a rags-to-riches fable captivate the nation? Who done it, where and why?  Are three questions most effective But often ****** requires the help of a detective These may seem like idle, fragmented bits of a much larger whole But actually they’re not; every type plays a role For you see, “someone” mentioned above is not a professional writer But an individual on a journey, and we all must face it like a fighter Characters are those you know and love, plot is what you choose to do Setting is where you live, theme defines what is important to you So why a fighter you may ask, someone who faces pain and strife? Because we encounter both good and ill as we write our book of life

A choose your own adventure book Mimics life so well. If only I could have a look At other stories life could tell. I would peak into the different plots Where reality would diverge. I’d probably begin to notice lots Of new problems which emerge. Though curious, I’ll remain content With this narrative I am in. May the future me not want it To be contrary to how it has been!

The Future Has Many Paths, The Past Has One
I was never looking into you I was only pouring an image of myself onto your canvas Of course I didn’t know it was me looking into me this was the mirage of my desire always in the shape of a question mark and you a sweeping mystery oozing something toeing the peculiar line between *** and titanium (cold, edgy, sharp - trembling between pain and principle like blazer and tie or more like halfway-unbuttoned-shirt-and-slacks on-with-no-tie (it was like you were making an effort!)) It was *** but it also wasn’t *** (I am empty I am full) I keep building up and up and up all these images in my Mind (which never shuts up) (a never-ending narrative She spins and spins and succumbs only in those rare and passing circumstances) constructing people like buildings only the scaffolding is imaginary and when the architecture folds in on itself soulless and my beloved figurines come toppling down on me why do I still get so surprised so stung so lonely in that hollow and distant way (like your Mind is echoing in on Itself)? My Mind is like quicksand devouring streams of memory with ease forever unsatisfied and craving more of the same sharp edges and all praying for a satiation in some distant future She knows will never come Only here in this tiny universe can I spell out anything resembling rationality from the mess and junk and tangled tendrils of my Mind Only here can I extract bits and pieces of thoughts and try to puzzle them together until they make sense until I can separate “Me” from “Reality" And what doesn’t make sense what I need to understand is why I feel so beset with this heavy magnetism that overpowers me to the point of paralysis (with little to no room for breathing) and why it was you who pushed me into this feeling and you who is still pulling me along far past the threshold of my resistance and I am done and it stings

She sang the trot like she owned the narrative, as if she was singing about her inner most secret. -The  lady who lost her lover The place where she met him The Place with the Camellia flower It was a place of summer and ray bloomed while it matched the radiance of the two Paramour and a reminder of their internal chest thumped in unison In the street where they first met she stood alone fatigued with no more breath to give Many nights shed her tears by the Camellia flowers Now the flower leave crumbled The petals showed it's red bruises and falling like the tear drops When will the lover come back to her To the lonely Camellia Flower When will he come back- The song ends with a grasp as this German lady song ends with her whisper To the Korean Trot song of the past To the song "Lady Camellia!"

Camellia Flower Lady Song
This poem casts a line from insomnia to morning On the wind of a prayer that whatever bites, holds on. See I have counted eleven score and ten, with rainbow like curves of my neck - contemptuous beasts leaping in formation each bleating out a preach of vague platitudes; A narrative for the night sky. My hands clamour at keys for escape until I tumble headfirst into a web so vast it has ensnared the whole world wide - millennials are living in-ter-net over in-the-world; a new ultraviolence against humanity. I beat my words into the screen until it breaks; shattering scarlet emoticons like confetti pouring over language as if it were a compliment. My mind massages shapeless polypous thoughts like tight constricted muscles aching for release. 3am casts these philosophies into horses, whipping them into shape and speed before the eyes of this statuesque ****** This anxious wakefulness begs my manic self to dance; suggestively ********* tickets to ride like cleavage. Sleep is fast becoming a neglected former engagement; as my mind trips over fallen heroes wades through my favourite mistakes in a wonderland unfolding faster than I can fall while the world beyond my window remains dark.

Insomnia
In this trigonometric love equation You're my arcsin, You're my special angle, Secretly placed In that unit circle of feelings. You may arrange my major arcs and diameters Inside of it Perfectly triangular, Love will always have The same ratio pi. Our equation of love Is seemingly incompatible. It has philosophical numbers becoming Common geometric shapes Of love itself Like hidden spheres In triangles, But in real terms of graphing Our parallel lines of life Went on forever not crossing at any point Of this imperfect world. Our love is, in fact, A complex system of equations With the same set of three unknowns Searching their own values It has a narrative statement. You're my C. You're mister C, From c'telzing From caleptikide And from cataguerrillaism, In this beautiful madness of love. You know, our love is getting old In concentric circles, Those circles of time. Extrapolate it to infinity, sweetheart, You may be my semi-infinity Until the end of the time, That semi-infinity, In which I lose myself From time to time Each time coming From the same unique star As that already existent In an old Romanian novel, Which is called Lorelei.

An Impossible Math
If I said my heart was a cyanide laced pomegranate, would that make its expressions any less ****** If I said falling in love was like throwing yourself off a cliff on a winter night and drowning yourself tumbling through the air blind like a bag of kittens, but I was quoting Kierkegaard, would that make it any less of an awkward melodrama? If I told you the western blocks blind attacks on the other, kinda resembled Freud's account of the mother of a miscarriages melancholia, is that a condoning or a condemnation? if I translated every meta-narrative of class relation, oppression, wage slavery, state violence, suppression, into anthropomorphic allegories for a myriad of psychological phenomena, would I be an academic or a shinto miko? [and would the world be any better?] if I superimposed on the geographical topology, the political and then the existential, would I have a sandwich? Or a lasagne?

a poem, a poe arm, a phantom limb
Nina Simone, occupying ears singing about bed and dressers. Sparsely populated young couple Interrupted by saying amusements. Only two stops I know where to get off I knew to mind the gap I'm a responsible citizen Voter with a valid railcard Only two stops Purchased a ticket Only two stops I can not throw up in that time I can not clear my system of over-priced beer A niche in the market Exploited in the name of money Making let's just raise them let's charge extortionate rates for an autoimmune disease Paying to support a normal drinking culture embedded into the narrative Growing by in the western world Listening to Nina Simone Only one stop now you'd never know what life would be like Without loud pop charts entertaining a few leaving the others yearning the return of ABBA when times were simpler and people cared about Eurovision and illegal music was your own “Tickets please” He seems awfully jolly for a late night shit-shift on Arriva Trains Wales Who's making him work and why's he So ******* happy about it Real extra effort! Soul sapping in my opinion Last stop gotta get off.

Hyper-normalisation (drunk scribbles on a train)
To behold the daybreak! -Walt Whitman, Song of Myself from Leaves of Grass In days like this one, when rain drops so light & everything dips into weeping grey my sanity longs for memories. My sanity longs like impulsive recalling of plummeting sadness in greying day sashaying mournful recollects from sunrise to daybreak. Remembering vanishes in the joyful marrow of life. There, forgetting lives. Tell me the last time bliss comforts your soul. It is a transient tick too stiff to evoke. What about the last time pain feigns your saneness. Memories turned into bullets slitting shrapnel warping into my soul. Happiness lasts for a second. Sadness, a lifetime. Tell me how to get rid the hurting clout of ache existing as a blunt fragment benign yet reminisced. Daybreak pours so hard and my sanity like a waning light crawls back in a miasmatic cave along the river known to be a home of a witch & her cursing narrative of throwing silver saucers making her a spotless shadow through vestal times never again a thriving spirit. Forget Blake. Forget Whitman. Only in daybreak where everything churns into life, my sanity shrinking back collapsing into surreal gaps. Here & there, my sanity longs for memories.

Every step you take, you are                 moving                                  toward your future, whether you realize it or not. Emerge like the rail road that was once underground. Each choice leads to a new narrative.

Pawpaw would rock by the fireplace in his favorite rocker ! The occasional whiff of Oak firewood and Borkum Riff pipe tobacco , I was hanging on to every word ! A narrative about a little boy in 1925 . Standing by his chair , as proud as I could be ! He'd look straight into your eyes without even flinching , the smell of Old Spice aftershave and Kentucky Bourbon . A shot glass with a gold rim ..A pocket watch his Father passed on to him ..Stories of a little fella from the south side of Atlanta relayed to a captive audience of one ! A starstruck grandson with a cup of hot chocolate , cap pistol , belt , holster , pajamas and house shoes ! Astonished with tales of Buffalo Bill ! Sergeant York and Wild Bill Hickok !

A Grandsons Imagination
Then the arch painter, up in the blue yonder, stirs the sea of colours, and posing in style, infuses the magic with tangerine daylight. Then I don't know if you were walking by a brook or a river, you would tune in, perhaps like the sweet singer, Hebrew King David, the water nymph hums a melody. Then the narrative resonates, it never just goes away like the wind. Birds chirp and sing in the groves and on every street. Then I was watching the BBC on a black and white screen, the beloved monarch had passed away, and Britain was mourning. Then she appeared once in a stolen exhibition by my poetry in motion and jolly happy she was admiring now she's gone I just dreamed. Then amidst the melancholy, I heard twittering birds chirping, missing the mellifluous melodies, so awesomely sweet, alas, Queen Elizabeth wasn't there to speak her English!

*concerning the pop. narrative -    i'm a wordsmith after all - someone gives me the raw materials of islam and (a rainbow) of affixing -phobia and i can't seem to hammer the **** thing into shape...    it's, foremostly: a pseudo-phobia. a misnomer of the phobia compound.* for a people who have an "irrational" fear of islam, it seems strange that the same people gave birth to some form of rationality - let's just call it islamophobia   not an irrational fear - but rather:                       and irritation - the irritable fear of being suddenly forced into the extremities of living the daily life - when something unexpected happens - mind you, the people who have been forced into these situations: stop their want for adrenaline in a base jump, from an aeroplane, or bungee jump off a bridge.    islamophobia is not a "phobia" as such, it's not irrational - it's just irritating - but then again you don't actually believe a spider to be a irrational creature (arachnophobia),   you don't believe an open space with lots of people    (agoraphobia)   to be an irrational circumstance - you're facing yourself being irrational in both circumstances -     since the phobia hides an actual rationale - islam?         that's much harder - since you're being "irrational" while someone is actually being "rational" -                when in fact there's no escaping that contra of you being "rational"    and the muslim being "irrational" - not one side is either rational or irrational: the spider and the open space filled with people already stated:                  you're being irrational; the fear of spiders is irrational -    but there is no rationality from the perspective of the spider: what does a spider know about rationality? jackshit!         there is no such thing as islamophobia: because you're not being irrational about what has its own rationality -      its own monologue and intra-dialogue... whoever coined this stupid word is as dumb as their rationality allows them to make enough people use it; it's only an irrational fear: if there is no                  rationale behind it; point being: there's rationale behind islam, ergo there is no such thing as islamophobia.

Milky white and silky light and this is what I see within the eyes that look into the night and in the night where visions come and go where who would know has yet to learn and with no concern for etiquette I move to get a better look and what a sight then I behold and should I ever be so bold to reach out and to touch or to take her in but perhaps that is too much and to touch is but a sin if so then I will be the finest sinner as if I was the innocence of a new beginner and depending on her point of view she might sin along who would dare to question fate and relate a narrative of give and take? Not I. In the moment standing by she washes carefully I dare to peek the sneak in me just has to know. what it is that I want so that interrupts the constant flow of these the places that I go and one day when it all is clear we'll disappear into the dying sun but oh what fun we should have had when we took the run through good and bad but everything there is will settle down in time but now is the time this I see for you and me.

Sewing buttons
A coffee shop afternoon can say it looms significant In the steamer’s sweet humidity And the idle legs pace for more I hear the whispers of world-changers and gossip mix Local color of a quiet little town. Sit humble and lean, a fixture ‘till showtime And ask lines around just we’ve they’ve been And who they’ve seen. There’s a poetry in the patron, come My gaze permits and intervenes Its narrative and scheme, in lover’s hand enweaved. Graphite plays its frustrate part the writer Seated far, far in a blissful nadir Bristles in his pony tail like drawers end to no avail.

Engineering to the Bridge: "Time passed, but without us. A bit like Kepler's third, I suppose." Express your "law" another way. Throw rocks at the moon. Stone the satellite because of your own despicable sins. I see demise in your face. There's something strange about the through lines of your crew, the yellow journalism of their spacewalk. Posters of the wild frontier, staggered and torn, said nothing will go wrong. That sometimes death is merely the devil changing colors. "I think not, Captain. You laugh when you should cry. You tear to pieces the pictures of the overtaken. You run from the lie detectors. Otherwise, your narrative falls apart and all you're left with is your withered mind funneling down a ****** abyss..."
