"military" poems
Some say love's a little boy, And some say it's a bird, Some say it makes the world go around, Some say that's absurd, And when I asked the man next-door, Who looked as if he knew, His wife got very cross indeed, And said it wouldn't do. Does it look like a pair of pyjamas, Or the ham in a temperance hotel? Does its odour remind one of llamas, Or has it a comforting smell? Is it prickly to touch as a hedge is, Or soft as eiderdown fluff? Is it sharp or quite smooth at the edges? O tell me the truth about love. Our history books refer to it In cryptic little notes, It's quite a common topic on The Transatlantic boats; I've found the subject mentioned in Accounts of suicides, And even seen it scribbled on The backs of railway guides. Does it howl like a hungry Alsatian, Or boom like a military band? Could one give a first-rate imitation On a saw or a Steinway Grand? Is its singing at parties a riot? Does it only like Classical stuff? Will it stop when one wants to be quiet? O tell me the truth about love. I looked inside the summer-house; It wasn't over there; I tried the Thames at Maidenhead, And Brighton's bracing air. I don't know what the blackbird sang, Or what the tulip said; But it wasn't in the chicken-run, Or underneath the bed. Can it pull extraordinary faces? Is it usually sick on a swing? Does it spend all its time at the races, or fiddling with pieces of string? Has it views of its own about money? Does it think Patriotism enough? Are its stories ****** but funny? O tell me the truth about love. When it comes, will it come without warning Just as I'm picking my nose? Will it knock on my door in the morning, Or tread in the bus on my toes? Will it come like a change in the weather? Will its greeting be courteous or rough? Will it alter my life altogether? O tell me the truth about love.

O Tell Me The Truth About Love

[I accidentally deleted this, so now I'm reposting it] This is not an attack, it is expression. *This apparently isn't a very popular subject, but then again, when has popularity changed anyone's mind..* -- **** the 'Selective Service System'; the SSS. It's neo-conscription. FDR made us a deal we couldn't refuse which included a stipulation that about half of us still cannot refuse: Selective Service also known as Peacetime Draft But only for males. Only the males. Not the females, though. Oh, no, not the females; We need the Females to bake the next batch of mindless soldiers/housewives/neoslaves. We need the women to uphold the status-quo. We need our women to remain passive, docile, and beautiful ******* doormats for our glorious and infallible western society. We need our women to be complaint, subservient, sex-starved, archaic-gender-role embodiments. I see it as overtly 'cherry-picking' as well as misogyny both ways; sexist, selfish, and prejudiced on both sides: 'Feminists' (read: Feminazis) claim to plea for true gender equality, but here is my plea: If such is true, where then are their demands for mandatory selective service? Why do they feel above reproach when it comes to the unsavory sides of society? Why do they turn a blind eye to the ******* Draft if they ***** up such a storm about equality? Why is it not a federal offense punishable by a $250,000 fine as well as up to 5 years in prison for a female to not sign their life away to the military from when they turn 18 until at least 25? How is that 'gender equality'? Huh? They, too, are cherry-picking. -

At four, you took my hand and pulled me to your bed,                                                             your small form cuddling, curling, you urgently said, "Tell me… tell me a story! Story, make it long", I began to tell the story, the story of when you were born: Drums and bugles, bubbles and balloons, somersaulting clowns and calliope tunes, you came out to meet them, on the day that you were born, and they were there to greet you, through a January storm. Lions and gorillas marched to military airs, snowmen and snowwomen danced without a spring time care, somewhere in the harbor, a tugboat played a note, and all the while you smiled a smile, upon a birthday float. Just like a circus troupe, we formed a great parade, and sauntered to the birthing bed where your mother lay, she picked you up, she held you, as close as close can be, her hand in mine, she softly said, “Now... we are three.” Copyright © 2003 Gary Brocks

TELL ME ABOUT WHEN I WAS BORN - FOR EMILY: PART 1, AT FOUR YEARS
** “Except for needs I can pack everything I have
into my old black sea-bag.”  * ** "I wish I had written that line, I said loud enough for him to hear." He shuffled around in his stool and raised his cup to get   hit with a refill. Frustration wiggle I call it, you know like when your dad couldn’t let you struggle with a puzzle. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot announced his irritation "Where have you been, swimming shallow side?" "I stated swatting away needs like mosquitoes on sweat when I was seven." He peered past his coffee, furrowed his brow and rubbed his tongue over his lower lip. "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, why do you keep saying that, I asked" "Guess you’ve never been in the military. College man I reckin, fancy degrees and you don't know Alpha Zulu?" * From Alpha Zulu by Gary Lilley

Young people can you feel the suffering? roca wear, gucci, apple, facebook, mcdonalds, apple bee's, honda, lamborghini, harvard, Community College american express, pnc bank, walmart Wage Slaves, ceos, owners, lenders, renters, indebtedness Structural dehumanization, systematic mechanization Exploited labor feeding blood to your hungering consumerism Young people you are embracing MISANTHROPY! Embracing the hate of your own humanity! Why the hypocrisy? Wealthy children, poor children Trying for enlightenment through education Parents garnering wealth through the oppression of their victims Parents garnering debt through the oppression from economic inequality Still you invest and promote the only legitimization of your being: CAPITALIST UTILITY Capitalism engineering unrelenting misanthropy Vicious economic system discarding humanity Perfecting the concentration and accumulation of wealth With the expansion of human alienation and murderous competition Prostituting your body to labor exploitation and consumerism Where does your wealth end up? multinational companies? financial corporations? military arms contractors? Loyalty lies in their pockets, backstabbing everyday tactics Killing you through the exploitation of your body Because they know the birth of another proletariat or bourgeoisie can replace you   Entities, not human, how much have they bought you for so that you cannot see!!! Beware of these misanthropic missionaries granting your body power and agency When your body can no longer be plundered for profit you will taste tears and blood Young people will you deliver your forefathers and fathers From worshiping capitalist misanthropy?

We pride ourselves on being ‘America the Free’, But how are we free when a he can’t marry a he? Homosexuality is found in over 90 species, but homophobia is only found in one. If you want to blame someone, blame the straight people. They’re the ones who keep having gay sons. Not one Disney princess is a lesbian, Not one superhero is gay. Not all girls want a prince charming. And not all men want a heroine someday. They say, "Love is blind." So why are we so blind to fact that love is love? What has America come to that we’d rather see men holding guns, than holding hands? Until recently, in the US military, admitting that you’re gay, had bans. Homosexuality isn’t a disease. You can’t catch it, and you can’t cure it. Please. Tiger Woods can have 19 mistresses, Britney Spears can have a 55 hour marriage, Kim Kardashian can get married for publicity, But GAYS are corrupting the institution of marriage? Closets are for clothes, not hiding.

She's like a drama queen, Plays the 'blame game' like a loser, Fair minded as a bigot, Wages war like drones, As free as surveillance, As open as privatized prisons, As equal as feudalism, As rich as the beggar masses, Bankrupt as homeowners, Socialist as the military, Truthful, trustful as "NEWS," as propaganda, Pagan as the manufactured Goddess 'Columbia,' Christian as the stingy, Pious as a sinner, Wicked as securities, exchanges on 'Wall Street,' Insecure as an empire, Greedy as a fast food glutton, As brave as a fool, Warmongering as a chicken hawk politician, Machevellian as a coward, As rigged as the free market, As selfish as Capitalism, As tolerant as Islam, Beautiful as a clear cut forest, Charming as a strip mall, Forward thinking as chaos, Lawless as congress, United as a belligerent crowd, Compassionate as a swat team, Green as any petrochemical company, Organic as pollution, Deep as a strip mine  .  .  .   .  .  .

Similes for America
the ground war began today at dawn in a desert land far from here. the U.S. ground troops were largely made up of Blacks, Mexicans and poor whites most of whom had joined the military because it was the only job they could find. the ground war began today at dawn in a desert land far from here and the Blacks, Mexicans and poor whites were sent there to fight and win as on tv and on the radio the fat white rich newscasters first told us all about it and then the fat rich white analysts told us why again and again and again on almost every tv and radio station almost every minute day and night because the Blacks, Mexicans and poor whites were sent there to fight and win at dawn in a desert land far enough away from here.

Every time people start to rise up, a whole buncha problematic mess gets thrown around regarding VIOLENCE. So, what is "violence" really?... It's the use of force. Plain and simple. What makes folks uncomfortable (who are otherwise comfortable in this system) is that UPRISING IS A SOMETIMES VIOLENT (read: forceful) REACTION TO SYSTEMATIC VIOLENCE: Yes, just like the Hunger Games... Thus, there are many types of violence... The fact that we are paying taxes that are funding the genocide and ****** of people of color (here and abroad) is violence. People with guns (former slave patrols and overseers, now cops) who come from outside our community and treat our folks as criminals on the daily is violence. Capitalism, i.e. wage/property/ecology-based exploitation in the name of profit is violence. The fact that LA County spends more $$ than anywhere in the world on prisons and police is violence. The fact that the US locks up more of its own people than any other country on record is violence. US aiding/funding the genocide of Palestinians at the hands of Israel is genocidal violence. From Congress, to the boardrooms, to the classrooms, from the gaze, to the unwanted touching, to the **** to the pay, Patriarchy everyday, is violence. A few people jacking some **** at Walmart or breaking a window is really minimal violence in comparison. A couple people throwing **** at armed cops is not serious violence. The idea of owning property that other must rent to live is violent. Systemic, chronic, global insecurity in the form of material poverty is violence. Wage slavery is violence. Gentrification is violence. The War On Youth, i.e. the School-to-Prison pipeline, and, thus the War-on-Drugs with its attending 76% recidivism rate in the prison-industrial complex, whose populations are disproportionately black males, is violence. The fact that people can't go to the doctor and dentist, or eat food every day is violence. Deportations are violence. Homophobia is violence. The world's largest global military that vaporizes people without due process in dozens of countries violating their biophysical and national sovereignty is violence. The United States government sanctioning the ****** of non-white, but especially Muslim bodies across the world... is violence. So, when you condemn violence, do you mean resistance? Because there is a whole lot of violence you should be condemning instead. Adapted from Emilio Lacques-Zapien

The artichoke With a tender heart Dressed up like a warrior, Standing at attention, it built A small helmet Under its scales It remained Unshakeable, By its side The crazy vegetables Uncurled Their tendrills and leaf-crowns, Throbbing bulbs, In the sub-soil The carrot With its red mustaches Was sleeping, The grapevine Hung out to dry its branches Through which the wine will rise, The cabbage Dedicated itself To trying on skirts, The oregano To perfuming the world, And the sweet Artichoke There in the garden, Dressed like a warrior, Burnished Like a proud Pomegrante. And one day Side by side In big wicker baskets Walking through the market To realize their dream The artichoke army In formation. Never was it so military Like on parade. The men In their white shirts Among the vegetables Were The Marshals Of the artichokes Lines in close order Command voices, And the bang Of a falling box. But Then Maria Comes With her basket She chooses An artichoke, She's not afraid of it. She examines it, she observes it Up against the light like it was an egg, She buys it, She mixes it up In her handbag With a pair of shoes With a cabbage head and a Bottle Of vinegar Until She enters the kitchen And submerges it in a *** Thus ends In peace This career Of the armed vegetable Which is called an artichoke, Then Scale by scale, We strip off The delicacy And eat The peaceful mush Of its green heart.

Ode To The Artichoke
"I LOVE LOVE!" She shouted, speaking to herself in third person. It was then that she seemed to float away A balloon on Macy's Day. *It seemed I was the only one orbiting earth, watching those performances of daily life applauding for a well-flipped omelet a superbly fitted glove a full tank of gas at $4.00.* I couldn't believe my luck Terrestrially, there were husks sipping coffee and rasping and rustling at each other desiccated. Privately, she was buying real estate on the moon I LOVE LOVE! she shouted Dancing like an egg on a spray of water a declassified military satellite who through some dumb luck had escaped the pull of gravity and won Marveling at the moon rock on her finger, even a stubbed toe just seemed like the ideal opportunity for extorting kisses. And it glinted in the light. Everything was fine. *Down on earth it seemed all the wine drinkers were toasting to us cheering as we terra formed the moon.* ***We couldn't believe our luck as we rolled back our stone.***

if all I was supposed to be in your life was an extra I would happily pass you on a street corner if that meant I was somehow a part of your life but I am more than that to you and you are more than that to me we are both heroes of different epics striving toward different goals who have lifted each other up rather than simply passing each other on street corners you didn't just serve me coffee I didn't just catch your eye we are more than that whatever that means and I love you it is strange I should say so often 'I love you' but it is my constant reminder of intelligence superlative ability and camaraderie we are neither military men nor animals we are the rewards of our labor you of mine and I of yours

The Rewards of Our Labor
The whole world has PTSD, brought about by watching far too much TV. Normal people becoming neurotic or psychotic by all the "Breaking  News". Talking heads spewing fearful endless chapters of dread, all with their own ax to grind into our heads, day after day after day until we want to scream. Real news or fake, impossible to know the difference. A political landscape strewn with landmines of division and hate. Melting Ice, and adverse weather, hurricanes and tornadoes devastate and forest fires burn, as racists and terrorists abound at every turn, and crazy's with military weapons killing us for sport, just to make the nightly news, as our nation's infrastructures crumble into ruins, all "Breaking News day and night", while we and the world choke and quiver from an excessive Carb diet of information overload, trying to sleep bathed in bad dreams, laced with too many strong doses of PTSD.

Ah, ‘rocks’ of the sea    Thou rise high!    Blue art thou,    So is the sky.    Rise and sink,    Is all you do.    Blue as ink,    Lovely blue. Ah, thou ‘white horses’,    Now I see thee!    Written about by poets    Over a century.    Rush forward together    As in war.    Rise again, my brothers,    When you fall. Ah, thou dazzling 'stars’,    In the waters blue.    My eyes you dazzle,    With the help of who?    Like silver you shine,    As well as gold.    When the weather’s fine,    ‘Stars’ I behold! Ah, thou wide blue sea,    Thou possess all these;    King of Military,    Are you not pleased?

She walks down this path so many Mothers have walked before her, Crisp uniforms line the path..a heavy heart..Tears in her lap. An American Flag snaps to attention as if to say we know your pain Mother, but we don’t. Through this all, she carries on the pride and resolve despite an unthinkable loss. hearts beating apathy to death
they are soldiers fighting a war across the ocean, but their hearts are at home seeking love and devotion. love from our country, devotion from their family. that is all that they need. they joined the military to fight for what they believe to defend from foes, seen and unseen in their hearts we are the greatest nation from the farmlands to the greatest plantations. it does not matter if they're black or white they will never give up freedoms fight. we have people here from every nation fighting for americas salvation women have been the backbone in every war death they've seen by the score. the plains indian women who fought alongside their men it became a common trend. joan of arc- who lifted the seige in only nine days the greatest role a woman could portray. the uniform does not necessarilly make her a soldier, but her heart and strength that make her bolder. bold enough to cover your back and pick up all the slack she will always be there in command and pick up the rifle from the sand she will do whatever she must for in her you put your trust. she is the female soldier, she stood her ground of that we should all be proud. give credit where credit is due this is what i say to you. louis rams :

female soldiers
LOVE, on wood, Is raised Perpendicular Into the grey sky. Below The intense agony And silent victim Stand the military Gambling For his apparel. Mary and Mary Magdalene lament... Above, Utters of despair, forgiveness... Then death. Imperceptible To the organic eye, His Spirit ascends into the opening Sky; And there in the empyrean He bides his time For the Love--- Of ALL mankind.

Transcendence
First, I am from Cassidy a heritage left behind in Ireland 100 years ago when a young girl crossed the Pond Searching for a place in the New World I am from Sin City where ungodly saints reign supreme and the hot summers are barely bearable Within its glitzy, barren landscape I am from a Dramatic Family where music is the main language spoken where, if you announce you’re left “full,” Someone will proclaim to be “Fuller!” I am from Low-income Neighborhoods where ****** kids have nothing to do but play hide ‘n go seek And have ice cube wars I am from Music an instrument in every room of the house with two musicians for parents, You can only assume on what will become of me I am from American Traitors and Famous Scientists Catholics and Musicians, Military Families and Abandoned Individuals That’s where I’m from.
