"malaysia" poems
Maybe it's the way the national flag flies so high Despite the country's imperfections Maybe it's the way we're united Not separated, despite the difference in cultures, Believes, traditions, languages Maybe it's the way you see an Indian eating with chopsticks, The way you see a Malay in a saree, The way you see a Chinese making ketupat's for Hari Raya. Maybe it's the unity you see, Maybe it's the goosebumps you feel when you say Merdeka, Maybe despite the hate you have towards history, Deep down, you know how grateful you are to be Malaysian. Maybe it's the way you walk into a mamak, And say " tauke tapau roti canai 1 milo ais 99 " And maybe, It lies in diversity, Beyond everything else. Malaysia, tanah tumpahnya darahku.

I pull open the door And hunt for food in the dim orange light. "There's nothing inside" Well, actually, There is something: Months old cream cheeses precariously stacked atop each other, Several mysterious bottles of brown sauces, Dried out leafy vegetables, But nothing This lazy *** can eat without preparing. I push close the door, Leaving my stomach rumbling and empty, But filling my mind with Dreams Three-fourths of the dull gray door is covered With colorful ceramic magnets From my dad’s corporate adventures To Batangas, Bohol, Bacolod, Davao, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Macau, Nepal, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, China, Dubai, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Canada, Greece, and Australia. I examine each magnet’s contour and shine, Letting its foreign dust seep into my fingers. I dream that soon I will return all those dusts to their lands And bring home more magnets of my own.

Korean fashion experts have shared their know-how with Malaysia. At the "K-Fashion Conference for Malaysia" in Kuala Lumpur on Feb. 16, a group of Korean professionals gave lectures under the topics "K-Fashion Design Trend Transition & Forecast," "Digital & Online Marketing Strategies," "Power Brand and Concept Development Strategies" and "How to enter the global market." The Korea Fashion Association, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the ASEAN-Korea Centre organized the event to strengthen the competitiveness of Malaysian fashion brands by improving the added value of the industry through brand development. About 50 Malaysian fashion industry companies and related government officials attended. "There is growing interest in K-fashion, along with the high popularity of Korean dramas and entertainment shows, making this workshop even more timely and meaningful," ASEAN-Korea Centre Secretary General Kim Young-sun said. "The Malaysian fashion industry has huge potential as it is currently ranked in the top five in the ASEAN fashion industry." On Feb. 15 and 17, Korean experts visited local fashion merchandisers for market research and consultations. According to the ASEAN-Korea Centre, the Malaysian fashion industry has had massive growth with the expansion of Islamic fashion markets. MATRADE aims to boost the industry as the nation's leading exporter. It has been organizing Malaysia Fashion Week (MFW) since 2014 to make the capital a fashion destination in Asia. The second MFW in 2015 featured designers from more than 15 countries, and over 300 booths showcased the quality products of Malaysian fashion brands to the domestic and foreign trade, accodring to the organization. The ASEAN-Korea Centre is an intergovernmental organization established in 2009 with an aim to promote exchanges among Korea and the 10 ASEAN member states.Read more at:www.marieaustralia.com/bridesmaid-dresses | www.marieaustralia.com/long-formal-dresses

CHAPATI WAR IN MALAYSIA KITCHEN
‘Tis time to bid Winter adieu. Make way for purple hollyhocks, while crocus are just peeking through last summer’s row of garden rocks. Bulbs warm, thankful for frozen days. ‘Tis time to bid Winter adieu. Rime frost replaced with morning haze, writing it’s own Spring song haiku. Buds, blooms and fledglings hatching through with colors for our hearts to swell. ‘Tis time to bid Winter adieu at the sway of the first bluebell No more snow's argent glitter gleam, the Season’s bold promise rings true. With the last broken ice downstream, ‘tis time to bid Winter adieu. *Empat Empat Early form of rhyming verse from Malaysia. 8 or 10 syllables per line. A. b. a. b. c. A. c. a. a. d. A. d. e. a. e. ‘Tis Time To Bid Winter Adieu (an Empat Empat)
*je pense bien à toi (i think well of you) Have not chatted in awhile, me rutted in NYC, a city of constant tear down and sometimes flashy urban human renewal... While you, you getting on with life, growing up, growing down, buying clothes for a new school season, or growing children, or boxing up now grandchildren memories of memories... falling in love, writing poetry all about it... You, in Nepal, Malaysia, India, Seattle, Portland, and the Florida's panhandle, the US Midwest sainted hinterlands, the South, that makes one love water, water that has travelled from the faraway, island continent of professorial Australia, Did I forget the Philippines? worse sin committed, is that in your poetry I have not toe dipped, quite the long erstwhile, after loving it with obsession devotion... so just a Saturday afternoon note penned just to you and you alone... je pense bien à toi (i think well of you) So by way of apology, craft a poem for you exclusive, more than each word, letter, every syllable, tongue tasted for conjuctivity, breadth and thus discovered notes of red soil, raspberry, lemon, even a hint of sweet masquerading as a salty kindness in our veins, our unique vintage of connectivity Your hand to my lips raised, grasped twice, by mine both, slow lifting with stature, affection and respect, kiss it and whisper just enough for we two to hear... je pense bien à toi (i think well of you) even this seems weakly insufficient, but care taken nowadays, a new economy of words, write less, think more, and give up the truly deserved words only as a mark of my fondness and respect these come on no schedule, often months in the making, so forgive-me-not my unsweetened silences, accept them with easy knowing that je pense bien à toi (i think well of you) the summer man wintered in discontent, his journey now disrupted by forces exogenous, stealing his vision, jailing him in between walls of indecision, knocking down his own twin towers, but carelessly not making provision to tell you well and often enough je pense bien à toi (i think well of you)* Sept. 13, 2014

Out in a distant land Church bells are ringing Families and friends are laughing Most of them are crying Not from sadness But from happiness Church bells are ringing Out in a distant land In celebration of a joyous Occasion between two people Between a man and a woman Between two men or two women Church bells are ringing In a far, far away land Signaling the togetherness On two communities And the creation of one One happy community Somewhere over the rainbow Church bells are ringing Marking the end of a struggle A struggle for freedom A struggle for unity A struggle for happiness Somewhere, anywhere, everywhere Church bells are ringing As two people force everyone To take off the mask call hate and discrimination And ignorance and become a family together Church bells are ringing across the world From China to Greenland From the United States to Malaysia The bells have different sounds But the message is the same And is felt in the hearts of everyone Church bells ring for everyone And someday church bells Will ring for you and me

Consanguinity: A Commissioned Poem (How Well Do You Know Me?) This request, from wolf spirit aka quinfinn, accidentally hit the spot of what was foremost on my mind. Cosanguinity:  A relationship by descent from a common ancestor; kinship (distinguished from affinity).  A close relationship or connection. Poetry, mine, yours, Ours, Invades my consciousness. We write poems on the same subject, Even the same title, But a few days apart. Insanity, Coincidence, or Consanguinity? Perhaps we are reading each other's stuff Too much. But that's crazy, Or Consanguinity? Yet, And yet, We see the same things So incredibly different. That is the answer. We see the same thing and I am Struck down. A billion sights. A billion words. Yet, the human computer, Sorts, collates, and generates A billion different writes In a similar spirit, Employing the same phraseology. All right. Alright. Malaysia. Minnesota. East Coast. West Coast. Geographical differences. Time differences. No difference. A billion differences. The stylistic differences enable, No, correction, Ennobles us to coexist, Value each other, Learn. Observable differences. But more interesting, More pleasurable, are the incredible, visible, signs of Consanguinity. Mere affinity? Kinship. A poem? Nah. But at 1:11am in my location, It's what's on my mind. Now that I know the meaning of Consanguinity.

…1966…Malaysia… 1 I’m on my scooter back home to my village after work in town and it rains and I take a short-cut people have told me about; and along the way at a bus-stop shed I see in the moonlight a woman waving at me I stop and she says: “Please give me a ride and drop me home; I’ve missed the bus… Just the first house on the right straight down this track…” 2 I see her face and her form - O She’s beautiful and I offer her my jacket and she sits behind me and I ask her for her name and she tells me it is Salma; it’s a beautiful name and I love the fragrance she exudes so close and sometimes, as we ride down the dirt-track, her body brushes ever so lightly against my back 3 I stop at the shed that is her house It is still raining and Salma jumps off the scooter and with a wave she runs into her home I am happy – she has my jacket she is beautiful and I know her home and I have a reason to call on her the next day… 4 It’s Sunday the next morning and I ride to Salma’s house and an old woman opens the door and she listens to my tale and she is shocked I’d want to see Salma and she takes me into her small home and she shows me Salma’s photograph on the wall and she asks: “Is that her you saw?” and I nod shyly and the old woman cries and she says: “I’m Salma’s mother; Salma died three years ago…” 5 And Salma’s mother takes me behind the house and there behind the trees she shows me Salma’s grave and there on the grave is my jacket… “She died three years ago,” the woman cries.. I run; I run… and I ride my scooter like crazy; I don’t want my jacket back… and I’ll never ride this way again…

I have nothing. so I'll talk to you while you're in Malaysia about the innocence of war and the grace of missile silos. I could tell you the grass is blue here and you wouldn't know for sure. Don't fret because I'll give you my soul unscathed and my heart under no pressure. You say left is left and right is right then the world aligns for all to see that we're all just the same even beyond you and me. He was sworn not to tell the story of us all and now we're all turning in circles about our time here spent. No one knows our words but you, me, and that miraculous invisible wire

in Indonesia and Malaysia they call her Pontianak: she’s the cool hantu, spirit - she lives in the banana trees; she died in childbirth and as she did she saw the joy in her husband’s eyes and so she hangs out in the nights: she wants to eat every unfaithful man’s heart 1 the poor woman died giving birth to a child and still the woman lives a ghost, undead – to seek her revenge on men for they showed no care, no love 2 so do not hang your clothes outside to dry for Pontianak will sniff you out and will not rest till she eats you inside out 3 she loves men - well, it’s hate and so she loves to eat men; and so men, when you are alone and you see this beautiful woman alone in the dark somewhere in the deserted streets and there’s the scent don’t give in to the charm for that’s Pontianak and she’ll smell horrid after but you’ll be severed body parts by then 4 push a needle with string into the banana tree and wait at the other end with the string ending in a cup - and you’ll hear Pontianak laugh and screech in your improvised phone in the middle of the night 5 and you never know - your neighbor’s gorgeous wife may be a Pontianak; a hantu tamed with a nail in her neck; a gorgeous babe till the iron nail is pulled out

introducing Pontianak (she who died in childbirth)
Does it take a catastrophe to bring our Countries together? They all joined in the search, to find Malaysia Flight 370 a missing plane, in all types of bad weather. It's so good to know, that they have each other's back. With the unity of each country, there's no need for lack. Let's give it up for the good, for the contribution that they give. They are all about helping one another, so their families can live. After this situation is all over, and they return back home; may this unity continue, after everyone is gone. Our Countries Coming Together
The candy-cane stripes mingle freely among the Saffron-clothed C moon and fourteen-handed star. They swim navy-like in the blue. The reds and whites alternate Till the states are properly represented. They ask of nothing more, nothing more. What does it hold? What does it teach us? The wild history of it roars and thunders Like a hurricane that never stops. But it did. How did we overthrow Something so mighty, so white As an unstoppable hurricane? And the purpose of it all? Freedom. Freedom and independence. Two righteous Morals so hard to obtain. At what cost did we attain them? Bloodshed, shrieks, lies, torment and tears. It was all worth it, love, all of it. When Jack finally crawled down the beanstalk, We never flew higher, braver or breezier With such dignity and unfaltering spirit. We have come so far to this place, this place Where hatred shreds to little warm hearts and people Are just people no matter how colourful they are. We’re a rare hybrid of ethics: the sarong-laden man milking the rubber tree Is no different than the blackened faces down in the tin mines And the ones that hand-built the train tracks, woody and sturdy. Seven chants of it that fateful afternoon And we cried knowing, knowing we have made it. Toiled sweat never tasted sweeter. Merdeka! Most of us laughed and rejoiced. Some were heard wailing and flying off to where They rightfully belong. We don’t want you here. We never did. The dove’s free now, Free of thick metal bars That caged it for centuries and It flies now, wings spread into A feathery horizon, windily flapping back and forth Into a new world, a new promise called Malaysia. Where were you when they called me ‘keling’ and ‘pariah’? Where were you when my grandparents arrived in a boat? Where were you when my kind slogged the railway tracks and roads? Where were you when they called me a snake and a rubber tree loafer? Where were you when they tore down my temples ‘coz there were one too many? Where were you when higher education was denied ‘coz some quota had been filled? Where were you when my kind were killed in prisons? I didn’t know it was a crime to look like a black rapper with earrings; Where were you when my grandmother wept the first time she cast a vote? Where were you when my grandfather laughed, shaking hands with the Tun seated by the Brit? Where were you when I proudly held the nation’s flag up the Everest and in a squash court? Where were you when I wept at the sound of ‘Negaraku’ heard thru’ muffled speakers and a loud silence? One Malaysia sorry *** was once believed but now delusional When my kin are likened to toilet paper Used when needed and then discarded! @ shaqila 21/1/2013

A Sorry *** Poem for Sorry *** Leaders
On the News today, it has been reported, about tornadoes in several States. Why would you get out the car, to take a picture of the storm that's right on you, what a "Dumb Mistake"? Now concerning Donald Sterling, I hate to say it, but he is a Billionaire fool. Does he realize he could endanger his life, with the comments he has used? When the captain jumped off the ship, leaving the children behind, do you feel your life is better, not paying the children any mind? The Prime Minister of Malaysia, did not care about the families who were left behind. He was so eager to get everything over with, by texting them, causing them, to almost lose their mind. A life is a precious thing, before the eyes of the Lord. It is important that a life is saved, so get on one accord. By, Sandra Juanita Nailing By, Sandra Juanita Nailing
