"lilli" poems
*strong wind blows this morning through bush and garden through grove and orchard* 1 the bamboo sways and strokes the cheeks of the palm tree ha!ha!ha! and the palm tree protests loud and clear: *Take your hands off me you bamboo lecher! oh!oh!oh!* 2 and the gum tree scolds the dry leaves of the lilli-pilly that crawl to its ground: *Have you no respect for private property? Get back to your mummy! tchk! tchk! tchk!* 3 And the little blades of grass sway left and right and the mighty oak laughs: *Look at you! Look at you! You sway like clowns! he!he!he!* 4 And Strong Wind roars: *I just love it! I just love to stir things up! Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!*

lilli, lilli, lilli, now sacred and independent of mother, all new to be caught up in this cycle again? the doors were many, the keys were few, and now you’re here in my arms, the arms of an uncle’s friend visiting objectively, wondering if some day you’ll wonder why you’re here and wondering what might cause such thoughts to surface in your pure, unadulterated mind. let this be our answer. mother of seventeen to grow old and fat and unfulfilled violated the pact she will soon teach you and later repented and kept you. father of seventeen to grow desolate and disconsolate and cold valued not himself and will passively teach you to follow suit. but you must not follow suit. lilli, when you are of seventeen, will life be worth living? or will you hand your own infant to an older poet who whispers in its ear, “perhaps if you had never been born?”

Unholy Matrimony
Snow is in the forecast this weekend, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying events in and around Middle Tennessee. The Best Buddies Club at Columbia Central High School is sponsoring a Prom Peek-a-Boo Fashion Show on Sunday at Westbury House in downtown Columbia. Volunteers from schools throughout Maury County plan to model dresses in style for this year’s prom season. Tickets for the event are $10 each and can be purchased at the door. Proceeds benefit Best Buddies, a student organization that pairs students with others who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Club vice president Lilli Beck said most IDD students usually consider a parent or teacher as friends and usually do not have friends their own age. Peer buddies spend time with their buddy, calling them on the phone or helping them when needed, Beck said. “We use fundraising to buy Christmas gifts and sponsor parties or helping our kids if they need something,” she said. “Some of our kids come from low-income families.” Buddies also are expected to participate in Sunday’s events, serving as greeters and hosts. “I hope I can convince one of them to say a little something at the end of the show,” Beck said. 2. You can’t live in Tennessee without remembering the king of rock-n-roll Elvis Presley, who would have turned 81 on his birthday Friday. There is a long list of activities scheduled at his Graceland home in Memphis, beginning with fans singing Happy Birthday at midnight. Go to www.graceland.com for event schedule and details. 3. Love is in the air in Nashville with the Enchanted Bridal Show on Sunday at the Hutton Hotel. Wedding and event vendors offer a variety of ideas and new styles for spring brides. read more:www.marieaustralia.com/red-formal-dresses www.marieaustralia.com/vintage-formal-dresses

When I was a little girl My father used to sing this song to me. It was a made up song (He used to sing songs for everything). It went something like "I love you forever and always, Even when you're mad to me." I said that when I was little, "Mad to me." My father thought it was funny. When I was older he said things like "No matter what you do, I'll always love you, Cuz you're my Lizzie Rabbit." He had this other song, He sang to me at bedtime. "Oh Elizabeth, Elizabeth, My pride and joy. If I didn't have Elizabeth I might have had a boy. But I have my sweet Lilly, She's sweet and she's silly, Yes she's the girl for me, And I never saw a baby Quite like little Elizabeth Lilli... Ann." I don't know how I remember all the words... Yes I do, because I've been dying To hear him sing it to me again. Because I got older, And I started ******* up. And then I learned, There are things I can do That fall outside the bounds of "No matter what you do." Things I can do that make me NOT his pride and joy. Things that probably make him wish I had been a boy. Things that probably make him glad There were no other babies quite like Little Elizabeth Lilli... Ann. But what he doesn't understand is, I love him forever and always. Even when he's mad to me.

Kids pt 2
Now this tiny fairy wanted a garden a garden where she was the chief she would be in charge of colours of flowers and she decided the size of each and every leaf. She had to choose when each bud was to flower and how much sunshine each plant was allowed. She sheltered delicate plants from the heavy rain and kept an eye on each and every cloud. She would stand under a mushroom it was a choice of whether or not to get wet she would poke her tiny finger in the ground at that point it was perfect for a seed to be set. Today is her birthday, and she is the grand age of seven she wanted a fairy garden she told me This little cousin of mine was sent from Heaven She is an angel, has wings, it is plain to see. She is a thoughtful little girl, a fairy, beautiful, so bright she is the apple of her daddy's eye Happy birthday Lilli, an angel in pink glorious light Spread your wings Lilli and one day you will fly high. Written for my beautiful little cousin who is seven today. She is so lovely, have a lovely day Lilli.

On Friday
flashing tail fins darting under and behind Lilli pad leaves white and orange coy circle beneath the bamboo – undefined spots blend giving a swirling kaleidoscope to tiny fish bodies Heron camouflage – sitting on a hand crafted wooden bench I toss flakes into the water enjoying the quick surfacing and instantaneous dive of my scaly entertainers another few flakes another whirlpool – a large orange and brown fishy swims precariously close to me gently I dangle two fingers into the drink six inch coy barely mouths and nudges my fingertips I think I just got to pet my pet fish –

coy encounter
Loving a flower is so easy, and I have seen it done before. For there are those, innocence, creating daisy crowns, happily. or lovers, exchanging roses, emotions bursting, publicly. But you are one of those, but whole. For innocence and beauty simply cannot sum up all of who you are. Magic, living within yourself has caused your downfall, but you are living, spinning out, now.
