Na dhan k e daas hote hai ,naa mann ke daas hote hai
Nirasha me v aasha ka, saghan vishwas hote hai
Nazar se dur hokar v, jigar ke paas hote hai
Mohabbat karne wale dil, bahot hi khas hote hai

Ibbadat kaun karta hai,Innayat kaun karta hai
Sabhi hai lootne wale, mohabbat kaun karta hai
Bharamar ki gungunahat se hi, ab har phool darta hai
Sabhi khilwadd karte hai, mohabbat kaun karta hai

Mohabbat apni har aashiq, pe jaya hum nahi karte
Ki aise har kisi pe dil,  lutaya hum nahi karte
Mai kahti raat rani se, meri awaj ko sunkar
Chale aate hai khud bhawre, bulaya hum nahi karte

Hume apni mohabbat tum, gawara mat samajh lena
Aji ye dil humara hai, tumhara mat samajh lena
Kayamat ki nazar hai, humnazara mat samajh lena
Kinara kar rahe hai hum, Isahara mat samajh lena

Don’t take them at face value. Several leading actresses in Mollywood have shown themselves to be keen businesswomen too. So, if Poornima Indrajith, a fashionista in her own right and designer-in-chief of fashion store Pranaah, was the lone name in the list till recently, Kavya Madhavan, Lena, Kaniha, Shwetha Menon, Rima Kallingal and the like too have joined the fray to establish their credentials as entrepreneurs.

While Kavya owns Laksyah, an online fashion store, Rima runs Mamangam, a dance school in Kochi. Lena is busy with Aakruti, her weight-loss centre. Kaniha’s focus is on health care, as a franchise partner of Medall Diagnostics in Chennai. Shwetha, meanwhile, has opened a restaurant, Shwe’s Delight, in Dubai. Mallika Sukumaran owns Spice Boat, a restaurant in Doha, Qatar… The actresses talk at length to MetroPlus about why and how they went about it, the lessons they learnt and what lies ahead.

For Kavya it was the realisation of a long-cherished dream; of starting a business venture while she is at the peak of her career. “I zeroed in on a fashion boutique from several other options, such as dance school, beauty parlour, restaurant…,” says Kavya. “It was the safest and best choice because my father had been in the textile business back home in Neeleeswaram for nearly four decades. My brother, Midhun is a graduate in fashion technology and my mother and my sister-in-law too share the same passion. Laksyah is really a family-run enterprise,” she adds. Laksyah, which sells a range of one-off designer saris and daily wear and based out of Kochi, will be celebrating its first anniversary next month.

It was a photoshoot that lead Lena to open Aakruti. She had to lose a few kilos to get in shape for the shoot and her childhood friend, Louisa David, a physiotherapist, helped her achieve that goal. “I was happy with my weight loss and so we decided to launch a physiotherapy-based slimming centre. Louisa has been running her centre at Thrissur for five years and she helped me start Aakruti, in Chevayur, Kozhikode, in September last year,” Lena says.

Kaniha, always a multi-tasker, has a solid reason for taking the health care route too. It was the closest she could get to her childhood ambition to pursue medicine! “After coming back to India from the United States, my husband, Shyam Radhakrishnan and I wanted to start something. Since I couldn’t fulfil my dream of becoming a doctor and had to study engineering instead, I thought I should do something related to healthcare and that’s how Medall happened,” says the actress.

In Shwetha’s case, her restaurant was a venture waiting to happen. “In fact, those who know me for long are not surprised with my decision to open a restaurant. I am an absolute foodie. I am so very careful about what I eat that my cook always travels with me on my shoots. I also love hosting family and friends and often hold pyjama parties at home. That’s why a restaurant was the obvious choice when I thought about starting a venture,” says Shwetha. Shwe’s Delight [“I was called Shwe by my friends in modelling circuit”], which opened its doors last month, is a North Indian fine dining restaurant. “I wanted to give expatriate Malayalis in Dubai a different taste from the usual fare. We dish up a bit of Chinese food too,” she adds.

Being a celebrity helps, most of the time, especially to get publicity, say the leading ladies. For instance, Kaniha says she could bank upon her celebrity status to get corporate tie-ups. They also talk of brand value going up when a known face opens a venture. “There is a certain level of trust with potential customers because you are a known face,” explain Shwetha and Lena. “On the flipside, you are always under scrutiny. At times, I feel acting is much easier,” adds Shwetha. Kavya says it is not easy being the face of Laksyah. “I can’t go wrong with what I wear!” she adds, with a laugh.

Celeb status and a pretty face, though, is no guarantee for a successful business. All the actresses say that they put in a lot of hard work to get their businesses up and running. “The execution part was not easy, be it finding the right location, getting the interiors done, purchasing the machinery, appointing qualified staff, training them and even finalising the colour of the uniform. But I have become more confident now that we are opening a new branch in Kochi,” explains Lena. Kaniha, meanwhile, admits that she has learnt to be “more patient and be diplomatic.” Well played.Read more at:www.marieaustralia.com/cheap-formal-dresses | www.marieaustralia.com/****-formal-dresses

Nikle to hum bhi the ghar se yahi soch kar ki shayad is bar manzil tak pahuch jayenge,
kyunki daudna to unhone hume bachpan mein hi sikha diya tha yeh kehkar,

Sahi raste ko dhoondhne nikle to the, magar yeh nahin pata tha ki itni jaldi thak jayenge.
Kabhi kabhi to lagta hai ki ab ruk jana chahiye, thoda aram kar lena chahiye,
lekin woh bhi namumkin lagta hai kyunki, ab to sapne bhi ajeeb se ate hain.

Chalte chalte, wade to kafi kiye the is safar mein, kuch unse, kuch apne ap se,
lekin yeh andaza bhi nahin tha ki un sabhi umeedon par pani ferte hue chale jayenge.

Yeh mehsoos bhi nahin hua ki apne hi apnon ke pankh kat chuke the,
talash thi to bas us kandhe ki jo is ladkhadate hue ko sahara de sake.

Fir bhi, dheere dheere is katon ki chadar par age badna hai, dil yahi kehta rehta hai,
kyunki jhoothi hansi ki kuch aisi adat si ** gayi hai, ki ab chahte hue bhi dard ka ehsas nahin hota hai.

Lena doesn’t get high with us anymore.

She appears at the door
stumbles through without saying hello.

Found a niche, she says.
Knitting.
She doesn’t waste time.

Lena swaps all her needles
with the other ******;
she gets two spikes a pin.

She has lots now.
Could crucify Christ
and all his friends.

Lena knits us wool sweaters
to hide the needle marks
masquerading as mosquito bites.

Fingers, a blur
eyes, glazed and gone,
Lena has big headshop dreams:
Wool syringe pouches,
she says,
next big thing.
You'll see.

Anna has Irving
Leonard's with Suzanne
Lena has nobody
to call her man.

Lena doesn’t get high with us anymore.
In Latin, 'Lena' means "brothel-keeper" or "procuress". In Arabic languages, it means "generous and kind". In Greek, it means "sunlight

Judai
~~♥~~
Suno jaana
Mujhse kai logo ne pucha hai.
judai kaisi hoti hai.
judai kaisi hoti hai.
Me kehta hu
Zara thehro batata hu.
judai kaisi hoti hai.
judai aisi hoti hai.
bhari mehfil me bhi
kahi tanhai me kho jana.
Kirchi kirchi kanch ke
tukdo sa bikhar jana.
Or un tukdo me ek hi bas
ek hi chehere ka nazar ana.
Judai aisi hoti hai.
Simatna chah kar bhi
khud se na simat pana.
Har kisi ke samne
muskan chehre par le ana.
Dard saare chupane ki
ek nakaam si be-matlab
koshish kiye jaana.
khud apne aap se us
lamhat me nafrat si ** jana.
Judai aisi hoti hai.
Mulakato ke naam pe
milna u to kai logo se
har chehre me usi bas Usi chehre ko dhundte jaana.
Naam uska apne
lab pe saja lena.
Us ki kahi koi baat
yaad ane par rote hue thahake mar ke hans dena.
Or hans kar ke ek dam se khamosh ** jaana.
Naam uska le kar gir padna.
kai raato tak aansuo se
takiyo ko bigo dena.
Duao me usi ke liye
haatho ko failana.
khwabo or khayalo me
usi se wasta rakhna.
na mil pane ka ghum
is dil ko satana.
Or fir tut kar bikhar jaana.
Judai aisi hoti hai.
Jhukaye gardan fir kabro me apni lout aa jaana.
Jise ham ghar bhi kehte hai.
Use Suna sa dekh kar kadmo ka theher jaana.
fir na utha pana.
Ye sab kya hai
judai ki nishani hai.
Na mil pana, satana, or har kadam har moud par tut'te bas tut'te jana.
Judai aisi hoti hai.
Jaise andheri si gufao me  talash roshni ki ** jaana.
jaise kisi apne ke haatho se haatho ka bichad jana.
Fir na mil pana.
kisi apne ko jata dekh kar
Dur se aawaze laga kar rokna.
Apne haatho ko jhatak na or diwaro pe patak dena.
Or bas kuch na kar pana.
bhari aankho se use
dur hote dekhte jana.
Palkey tak na jhapkana.
Fir aansuo ka jaise
sailab aa jana.
judai ki aag me
jalna,jhulasna
or zinda reh jana.
judai aisi hoti hai.
Judai aisi hoti hai.

in a tea house
a jasmine girl
plays a piano
shimmering a
song of soft keys
to a lotus blush
of fine infusing leaves.

morning, the jewels
of dawn’s filigree nets
a summer storm
in a wintry sky
coaxed out of
a melody of
incense, trembling
to the infinite
blossom of
tranquil, arching
skies.

your poetry, the
cadences of the sun
unwrapped,
the light of the
ocean
breathed
in,
beautiful moons
that weep for
life’s joys,
wild summer
in our hearts.
this poem is inspired by the beautiful poetry of lena s and in particular a series of 'tea house' poems she wrote a while ago that i particularly loved. if you've not read her poetry do check it out i'm sure you will find it as inspirational as i do :) this poem is a response to a dedication poem that lena wrote for me very recently called blossom divine which you can find on my pages.

Ole and his strong wife Lena,
Distant on their pathway grew,
And life between grew meaner,
Silent in the house, it's true.

One day the Pastor came to say
He'd heard a thing or two about them,
Sat at the table in a listening way
While Lena spouted about men.

Pastor Inqvist finally gave a shrug
And walked around the table slowly,
Had Lena stand and gave a hug,
And looked down from his height at Ole.

"This is what she needs my friend,
A big hug every day, to end her sorrow,"
And Ole cleared his throat and said,
"What time will you be here tomorrow?"
Heard this on the radio this morning and had to make it rhyme.

It's with great sadness when I say that we won't see her anymore.
Lena died in March of 2020 and she was born in March of 1944.
She is survived by her husband who is my Uncle James.
Losing such a special person is sad and it's also a shame.

James Greene Junior and Sharon Redmond are her two children.
After living for seven and a half decades, she has gone to Heaven.
She died just twenty-four hours before her 76th birthday.
Her loved ones are heart broken because she passed away.
Dedicated to Lena L. Greene who died on March 2, 2020.

Etta James, oh the lady could sing.
Sarah Vaughn,when I hear Anita Baker in away it's Sarah.
If you never knew one of the two.
You would swear they was one.

Billy Eckstein, during his time.
Mister B, was smoother then Billy Dee Williams.
And he had away of mastering a song.

Which we saw when David Ruffin came along.
Who was a rival to Sam Cooke?
A master of the coolest romantic hooks.

He might have been a little different.
Except Chuck Berry can't be deny his dues.
Johnny B Goode, is nationally known.

The color country boy in his song could play.
Yes, he had to change the word to suit the segregation days.
But Johnny B was African American in everyway.

Who doesn't believe that when you see Morris Day?
That he owe his style to Cab Calloway.

The role of an African American diva could be trace to Lena Horne.
Or maybe actress Freddi Washington.
Or opera star Marion Anderson.
Who sometimes don't get recognition like they should.
Almost like Dorothy Dandridge doesn't.

Still they played on like Josephine Baker.
Who like George Washington Carver faces hostility and problems?

We still trying to educate people about Charles Drew.
Who fame is traced to the blood floating within you?

Against the greatest of odds.
They adapted and blazed a trail.
Through the roughest of times.
They was determine to be.

Who doesn't know Little Richard?
Who borrowed heavily off of gospel singer Billy Wright?
And soon was creating truth within his lyrics.
Until others came along and water them down.

We know truth still is avoided by them.
Except for the man that sung about a hound.
Which wasn't at all about a dog.
But about a cheating man.
Sung beautifully by Big Mama Thorton.

But then no man plays the guitar better.
Then Marva Collins or Rosetta Throphe.
Yes, these women could play.

Some people will never understand Malcolm X contribution.
Except, he left many that's seen today.
Just notice the way he never revisted the prison in any negative way.

We marched.
We protested.
And some of the best controversial stars comes from the musical side.

For no other side of music can touch the blues with truth.
Well, I guess country do.
But the blues takes many forms.

Could be about leaving.
Could be about loving.
Or that stuff you do in the dark with your love.

It could be the howlin'.
It might be the scoffin'.
It could be the chasin'.
But like many styles of music.
Some knows they was creating babies.

Which leads us to Marvin Gaye and Teddy Pendergrass.
Where the Love TKO and Let's Get It On still is the songs.

It's an African American tradition of the past.
That affects the future too.
For stars of yesterdays.
Are seen in stars of today.

A Legacy.
And we know legacies doesn't fade.

knew she'd be spoiled infinitely
like a fruit-fly in a box
of rotten apples

~ reality check ~

....if you look closely
you might still see one dimple;
but the twinkles departed
back in '75

....and the burns
on her fingertips
and blistered lips

....and the bones....
jutting  like the bones
of refugees and anorexics

....missing flesh

...and the tracks
on her forearms
and filthy jeans

.....and the eyes....
shifting like the eyes
of senators and thieves

....telling lies

.....and the rotting corpse
in a black garbage bag
in fresh kills

multiple choices removed
from the doctor
and diva of daddy's dreams

hijacked by dream-killers:
smack
      crack
  and addiction

i had a girl man, she said she loved me
one day she was gone
she said she loved dope more than she loved me
one day she was gone
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
now let me tell you how many, many many days
i felt the cold inside me 'cause of her sinfull ways
now i don't want to miss her but anyway i do
how could she do this man? you know i loved her too
then she went to jail i waited for so long
she didn't really care so i wrote this song
i did not want to write it, it made really sad
i loved her so much man, it felt like i was mad
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
why do we love each other what makes us feel that way
i do not know the answer man, 'cause she ran away
she is dancing on the edge i hate to see her fall
still i want to help her man, to reach out for her soul

she gets high then goes to jail and that's the way it was
i waited for so long to meet her at prison doors
i gave her everything, everything i could
now its over man, it's over just the way it should

why do pepole do this man, we hurt each other's heart
but that's the way life is, sometimes we drift apart
i did not want to say this, i did not want to wait
just hear me out Lena because this has to be said:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i know you can do this i know you can get through
please break up with dope before it breaks up with you
I’ve met 37 girls named Sarah. My name. Sarah. Five letters, nothing special. It’s not beautiful like Lena. Not creative like Anastasia. No one has any trouble pronouncing it. Which I guess isn’t all that bad. Until they go into that story about that one Sarah who gives my name a bitter taste in their mouth. Spiting out the two syllable, five letter word that defines me, like they know something about me. “Oh Sarah, I knew a Sarah once.” Please don’t say my name like that, don’t elongate that first a, cut sharp the sound of the r, only to drop the h at the end. Five letters said as if there are only four.
You left the door wide open;
a chilling breeze replaced your presence.
All that is left is a face
and a name-not even
the sound or tone of your
voice can be remembered.
You left the door wide open;
a thin sheet of glass
separating our worlds.
You left the door wide open;
before you used my
heart as target practise.
You left the door wide open;
making sure none
can take your place.
Lena, I promise you they’re not as sweet as you think. Sugar wouldn’t melt on my tongue.
Did you know, Poison Ivy used to **** people with her kisses?..
Don’t tell my father, but Maybe, just maybe I do the same?
I’m sorry, Lena I’m so, so sorry... I don’t mean to be icy,
but I see that my breath on your skin gives you chills. And your arresting hazel eyes, well,
they just stare at that forbidden place don’t they? Are girls even allowed to kiss?
Lena, your hands move my night gown so softly across my skin. & I let you kiss me everywhere,
just not the rose petals upon my mouth. I promise you don’t want to touch me there, please,
I destroy everyone they touch.
I see you bite your lip
and it’s the sweetest cry of rebellion.
Maybe one day when the stars aren’t so perfect,
then you & I will be.
Zindagi me kai ese moke aaenge jab tum apne apko 1 ajib kashmo kash me paoge,
Kai viparit paristhityo ka dar tumhe sataega,
Kya galat hai kya sahi tumhe kuch smjh nahi aaega,
Ye kuch uljhne hai jo har kisi ki Zindagi me alg alg samay pr aati hai
Jo ki us waqt pr bhut soch smjhkr kuch faislo se suljhai jati hai
Par kya wo faisle lena itna aasan hota hai?
Kyu ki wo 1 faisla shyd puri zindagi ko bdl skta hai
Har faisle me Kuch panne ki tammana, to kuch khone ka dar to hoga
Par un sab raaho me se kisi 1 ko tumhe chunna hoga,
Us raah ko chunne ke liye tum Hazaro logo se ray mashwara karte **
Kai baar apne dil ki chod, gairo ki baat par bh yakin karte **
Par smjho is baat ko, ki Hazaro se sunkr bhi tumhara dil kis chiz ko chahta hai
Dhundho, Kya hai wo esa jisko tumhara man puri mehnat, lagan aur jazbato k sath karna chahta hai.
Kyu ki Sahi to sab kuch hai is duniya me
Par tumhare liye kya sahi hai ye tumhi jaan skte **
Apne andar ki kabiliyat ko pehchankar, Mehnat kar
apne sapno ko haqueeqat bana skte ** !!
An inspirational poem, which teaches how to take the decision in life.
Kar himmat or aage badh,
Bina dare, bina thake bas chal de tu,
Mushkile hai raah me, to aane de,
Kuch kar gujrne ki chah ko jagne de.
Tujhme hai wo kabiliyat,
Tujhme hai wo junoon,
Tu jo chahta h wo kar ke to dekh,
Milega tuje 1 alag hi sukun.
log kya kahenge ye sochna chod de,
Abhi bhi moka hai, apni kismat ko badal le,
Are Heera hai tu, bas khud ko tarashne ki jaruart hai,
Apne andar chupi kabiliyat ko pehchanne ki jarurat hai,
Par sirf, Apni kabiliyat ya apne hunar ko pehchan lena hi kafi nahi hoga,
Ye hoonar 1 podha hai, jise tuje apni mehnat ke pasine se Sichna hoga,
fir dekh, 1 din tera ye hoonar hi teri pehchan ban jaega.
Aur wo din door nahi, jab hazaro logo ke liye tu ek misaal ban jaega !!! :)
You taught me anything and everything i needed to know
Taught me right from wrong
So when i found out the news thats you where gone
I couldnt do nothing
Lights went black,
razior came out hitting my skin
Something my mind never thought about
Tell the news came along
With a new addicting sharp pain
Hitting my skin
Red stuff drippen
The new life with a new
Killing addiction
Rishtey wo nahi hote jo duniya ko dikhaye jaye,
Rishtey wo hote hai jo dil se Nibhaye jaye.
Rishtey nibhana har kisi ke bas me nahi,
Ab to bs rah gyi hai yadon ki haseen gali,
Rishtey wo nahi jo sirf sukh me kaam aate hai,
Rishtey tou wo hote hai jo dukh me sath nibhate hai,
Rishta agar es dil se hota hai,
Wo rista bda hi atut hota hai,
Rishta banao tou use dilon jaan se nibhana,
Kisi ki bhawnao ka mazak na udana,
Kisi ki zindagi bankar uski zindagi na chhen lena,
Aankhon mein aansuo ka tohfa na dena,
Rishtey me khatas nahi mithas hona chahiye,
Rishtey me bahas nahi vishwas hona chahiye,
Wo rista ek na ek din tut jata hai,
Jo rishta dil se nahi dimaag se nibhaya jata hai,
Saath chhodne wale tou bus majburiyon ka haath thaam lete hai,
Nibhane wale tou maut ka darwaza khatakne kya aakhiri saans tak hamare saath hote hain,
Rishtey tou milte hai mukaddar se,
Sanjo lo unhe dil mein,
Jis rishtey ko us khuda ne bnaye hai,
Ek na ek din use jaroor milaye hai,
Jab do dil ek ** jate hai,
Tab wo ek anmol rishtey kahlate hai....
Kamosh hua hu kuch pallon ke  liye,
Aunga wapis jarur, Tuje satane ke liye.
Is baar jo aunga, Kuch kar ke to jaunga,
Or kuch na sahi, aag to laga hi jaunga.
Kahunga na kuch bi is baar,
bus ankho hi ankho se dil ka karrar lut jaunga,
Hogi aag jo mere seene me,
Kar lena lakh yatan apne ansuo se chahe,
buj na payegi
esi aag jo laga jaunga.
I am Amadioha the earth goddess  of Igbos,Ngai wa mugo wa gatheru
who created the nine daughters of mumbi ,and Gikuyu a man,
I am Wele of Dini ya Musambwa,creator of Elijah Masinde
I am  Katonda the creator of Kintu and Namiremeb hills at Makerere
I am eshu the god  of the  Ijimere and Achebe and Soyinka,
behold today  I stand in Egypt,where the sun comes from
where I similarly  stood billion and billion of years ago,
to create all the stars the moon and the universe
not even known to the son of man until today,
this is where i created my first born of  humanity;
dear Africa the generations of Negroes,
the beacon of my eye, i enjoy a look at you  minus blinkers,
i stand here a fresh to correct my creation mistakes
i formerly made, when creating my dearest son in Africa;
Kenneth Binyavanga wa wainaina, who hails at Nakuru hills,
he is the sweetest song to my heart, classical music of my ears
i contrite much , as i were not to create you a blended blood
from an  Omuganda  girl and  an Omugikuyu  boy,
i  was to create you a pure Muganda, like Okot P' Bitek,
or a pure Kenyan , like Francis Davis Imbuga,
i were to control your academic fortune , that you  don't start,
your maiden education  Lena Moi primary school,
an epiphany of a divorced woman,spelling curse of wifelessness,
on those that pass through the very  school , i was wrong.
had i known i could have not  sent Cleophas to work
in your fathers home , for him  to sleep in the horse shed,
cursed is the ******* memory of what he did in that quarter
as you preened  and eavesdropped outside like a hen
listening to the eagle's contralto,
why did i sent Wambui to be your nurse maid ,only to preach
the gospel according to the power of peasant ****** to you,
she tangled her buttocks before your **** eyes,senting
your young heart to sensuous extremities, Wambui ,a she devil,
Wow! Kalenjins are bad neighbour, they are dark and ugly
slow in the brain and sadistically malicious in the heart,
i  know not why i made them to abode with you within the
great valley of kenya, they throng schools and they cannot learn,
but i have now held them captive, i have made them your footstool
for ever and ever my dear son ,as you hold the scepter of power,
i goofed beyond  remedy by all ethereal to send you to Njoro boys school,
for you to meet Sigalla, that extra-masculine Sigalla , the ******* hunter,
i gave you wrong sisters, they made you put on your mothers dress
and her long hair,then you posed to the female public as an Americanness
your romantic number was fwive fwive fwive fwive , fwive at New-york,
i wonder why i did not give you enough power of languages
so that you generate a numberless fantabulousies and Goalies and so forth,
only to borrow from a young woman;Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
the  yellow sun's slapslap  slapslap slapslap slapslap slapslap   slapslapp!
Mangu Boys School to you was a blessing , had it not my fault,
of giving you a mutton headed faculty full of annentcy,
that went for the persiflagery and aesthetic phantasmagoria,
in the art and theatre prose and poetry; the Bigger Thomas Lawyer,
your only  misplaced  mentor  that gave birth to what i love in you ;
hence i am writting about this place now,this place kenya,
folly of folly is when i goofed to take a natural writter like you,
to commerce class in the land of apartheid, Nadine Gordimer's  front
that sired Brenda Fasie a top Lesbian, the song bird of my times
as you all know we the gods also jealously love,
she only charmed you with her naked ****
swinging like a pendulum on the  musical stage,
after her communique of being a top lesbian,she call it Africa,
o! no,  Africa never came from Lesbians, it comes from simple nature;
mother and father, in natural and collective  heterosexuality,
You only saw and revved in dope culture in the cubbyhole of Victory,
and hoped clubs from Dazzle to the rest , in hunt of  your boyhood,
sadly to be befallen by dark clouds  in victim-hood of optical nutrition,
abiding among the  tall, beautiful, smoking bunch of Lesbians.
My son, from  today and henceforth,  i the Africanus,
the god of African fertility,poetry and art,
humbly chose to recreate you the king of kings and queens,
of African story telling  at global status, to tell all African songs,
beyond sham fallacy that gay and Lesbian literature
are the begotten  apex of modern and Global literature
these are only white lies featuring a death bound imperialism.
The Saturday night crowd, all here to see Dave Van Ronk,
sit huddled in the fashion of Antwerp diamond cutters,
sipping cinnamon/marshmallow coffee at the tables.
Caffe Lena is Saratoga's happening place in the 60's and
we're here to forget the war and civil strife in the ghettos.
Sister Mary Katherine, sans frock, is the warmup act,
but no one really gives her any mind,
as she struggles to seat herself upon the stool
intended for the six-foot plus Van Ronk.
Joan Baez prepare to eat your heart out!
Without so much as introduction, she
breaks into a high soprano Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues.
Heads pivot like synchronized swimmers toward the stage.
Her silken voice emits notes blinking
into reality from quantum fluctuations in space/time.
Every quivering high-C grafts the audience together.
She's spinning veils of sound,
the like of which our ears are unfamiliar.
The quavers in her throat match the tremors in my coffee.
In the back of the cafe a drunken Van Ronk passes out.
A true incident which occurred @ the Caffe Lena in 1968
Shortly thereafter Sister Mary Katherine left the convent
THERE is something terrible
about a hurdy-gurdy,
a gipsy man and woman,
and a monkey in red flannel
all stopping in front of a big house
with a sign "For Rent" on the door
and the blinds hanging loose
and nobody home.
I never saw this.
I hope to God I never will.
  Whoop-de-doodle-de-doo.
  Hoodle-de-harr-de-hum.
Nobody home? Everybody home.
  Whoop-de-doodle-de-doo.
Mamie Riley married Jimmy Higgins last night: Eddie Jones died of whooping cough: George Hacks got a job on the police force: the Rosenheims bought a brass bed: Lena Hart giggled at a jackie: a pushcart man called tomaytoes, tomaytoes.
  Hoodle-de-harr-de-hum.
    Nobody home? Everybody home.
Prologue
A winding road stretched ahead
As a young girl wandered past
Her whole life had been torn to shreds
Since the night of Sunday last
Her shoes were worn to nothing
Her hair in matted knots
Her heart was pained with something
The past few days had taught
Surrounded by the darkness
Heart pounding in her chest
A sound disturbed the silence
But what, she could not guess
A chill shot up her spine
As she recognized the sound
The brakes let out a gentle whine
She knew that she’d been found
A head peered out the window
A face that shined with glory
I’ll take you where you need to go
If you tell a great story
The girl accepted his request
And stepped into the truck
She began to tell the story
Of three girls and their bad luck
The tale**
Many moons had come and passed
Since Alice, Lena, and Margaret
By one, their fate was so cast
They now stood as a target
At home that day they were alone
Their parents out to lunch
They did not hear the floorboards groan
Or the break of the door; crunch
A scream disturbed the pleasure
From the youngest of the three
A man grinned at his new treasure
Then whispered, “Follow me.”
The girls were struck with some new fear
They had never felt before
They feared the end was drawing near
With no hope left anymore
He drove them to his house
On the dark side of the town
A lonely life without a spouse
He was tired of his frown
I want to see the youngest first
He ordered with a deep voice
To let her die, that’d be the worst
If only they had a choice
Their sister’s blood-curling scream
Ringing loudly in their ears
Why must life be so mean?
Their eyes then filled with tears
A minute later she returned
Very bruised, but still alive
On this night the girls must learn
Just how they might survive
Throughout the night the man came in
And ***** them one by one
They cried at his unforgivable sin
With fear they’d never see the sun
The morning came and Alice knew
The man would come to **** them
Her sisters didn’t have a clue
That death would lie before them
And she was right, for he came
At seven forty two
They had no one there to blame
There was nothing left to do
A shot rang out, then a yell
Her blood trickled to the floor
Lena? Margaret? She couldn’t tell
But she bolted for the door
Before the man could see her
Yet another shot rang out
They were dead now, she was sure
The pain made her want to shout
She ran out into the street
She had no clue where to go
The only sound was the birds tweet
They had happiness left to show
She wandered on the empty road
As the day turned to twilight
The birds replaced by loud toads
She walked on into the night
As the girl finished her tale
The man demanded her name
Alice, she said, his face went pale
Alice, the girl, one in the same
For her story was the truth
Down to every last thought
But this was the same man too
This time he would not get caught
I sit where I could get a fresh breathand somehow escape the smells of collard greens, fried chicken, man-n-cheese, and Momma’s 7-up pound cake.Sunday dinners were never going to be the same and Daddy’s to blame.***-bellied Pastor McKenzie sneezed in the same rag that he was wiping his sweaty face with. Auntie Lena brushing pasthim to avoid his sermon on ‘cleansing your soul’ putting the carnation bouquets on the dining table.Momma leaning on her callused elbows, which ain’t ableto take too much more stress. Brandy and Brittney flipped through channels fighting over the best pillow on the couch.My uncle Jo rambling on about this sweating he does in the south.Nobody even noticed the things that were coming out of Daddy’s mouth. “Sorry baby. Daddy’s so sorry,” on repeat like my Alicia Keys CDthat Kayla scratched last year in the same car Daddy wrecked. I played it in the living room, hoping to bring her back.Her frizz free hair was all that I was jealous of. Her clothes were cuter than mine and one size too big. Her humor rubbed off on me and is the reason I’m a kidder. Time to eat, but I can’t breathe.Kayla could never again help with dinner.
