Sometimes you are the gasoline to an already burnt building Sometimes you are the anger of a child who broke his own toy And sometimes you are a fist of rage, Yelling at the television A puff of smoke You are the post apocalyptic chaos of a rip tide too far gone to break See, racism is not the shark but it's the ocean All teeth and no mouth, No jaw and no muscle Just the white rattle of hate The sharp grip of an untrained dog People talk about racism like ancestral land and confederate flags, Knowing that you own these things, And we don't  As if we don't own this history too, This system Like we're tredding water How many skin heads do you think were in the room when we signed off on immigration laws, race legislations, public school curriculums? Or pushed policies like mandatory minimum sentencing, benine neglect, broken windows, stop and frisk, the race war? Remember, The eye of the hurricane is the least harmful part of the storm You, The eye of the chat room, All poker face and no cards So which individual Donald Trump bigot boogie man are we supposed to be mad at? When do we stop pointing out the bad apples long enough to acknowledge the orchid was planted on a mass grave? When do we stop slandering race and start slandering unsolicited rage? Sharks **** about one person each year Thousands drown But of course this isn't really a poem for white supremacist I don't know any white supremacist But I do know the people in my neighbourhood, And my family And I know how white supremacy is upheld Whether it is through action or inaction How it isn't just the broken act of justice, But the justice itself How a white kid with a black face on Halloween and his friend who knew it was wrong but didn't say anything - start to blur together Because let's be honest, Some racists aren't even racist at all So they say nothing They're a silent chorus, A dull underwater humming waiting to overflow But when the songs of our cities break, Will we choose to hear it? Or will we keep looking for the shark, Keep tredding water, Not knowing that we're drowning?

Explaining Racism to A White Supremacist

It is one thing to advocate for equality, representation, and unity. Indeed, each is an inalienable, fundamental right. But it is a whole new beast to lay waste to anything that frightens you or that challenges your beliefs, or that simply does not mirror your very own ideologies. How heavy the hand of tyranny that now lays across our mouths, yet how light our opposition. Though I do acknowledge the delicacy of the issue at hand, the fragility of the minds of hysterical mobs who resolve to smashing windows in blind anger, who ***** out free thought in daft castigation, or who ban books even, it seems, like those monsters of history to which they declare themselves to be diametrically opposed- even in light of that, it is no excuse to remain subservient to senseless autocrats and the absurd legislations they bludgeon us with near daily. To do this – to do nothing - is to lay down and die without dignity, spineless and shameful, though it seems that only myself and a handful of others can recognize this.  Indeed, how easy it is to glimpse from the fringes. I, a man of only twenty-seven years, do not recognize you, America. I long for the days of comfort (so far removed from them, I am) when I could safely retreat into the lofty and quiet halls of my mind to enjoy a self-assuring thought that only I created - a thought with no real purpose but to occupy me for a time, to entertain me in my moments of dull apathy. Now I shudder in a cold and contrived prison of vetted words and unnegotiated mandates where I am told to wrap myself in our flag to keep warm, to feel safe, that this is for my own good. I do not recognize you, America, for this thing you have become.

We are the refused... Barefoot in the marketplace Born in the backseat With minds erased To hide dirt in the backstreets And mud on the school steps The fool in the textbook Paints us inept Tainted ****** Illicit natives Miserable Misfits Nothing the magistrates can't handle OH!!! They wish! Suppress our melodies But never break our lips We are the misused... Our eyes do penetrate Every false-flag they perpetuate Even though barbiturates Are placed beneath our pillows The shame billows The shame follows Rodents to the edge of the borough Where men create addicts There Publicans turn Badges burn Magistrates press their shirts and hatch their eagles Discernment is not taught Nor is it learned We are the obtuse... Blacked out and abused! Sold for pulpits and ocean views Magistrates hate us Their eagles circle to berate us "Intolerant" "Outdated" "Unpatriotic" "Ill-fated" But by grace we persevere By faith we adhere To a higher truth A purer view Our strongholds are not stick and stone Chrome nor drone But Christ alone Our strength and hope Out hope for home NOT polls and popes NOT guns and votes NOT Magistrates and lazy legislations NOT eagles which feed on Desensitized demonstrations Police brutality and assassinations Nomadic nations Sporadic speculations We The Refused We The Misused We The Obtuse Will NOT cosign evil Will NOT massage magistrates Will NOT elevate eagles We will NOT We must NOT

The Refused
Eyes fixated on the skies Watching a star Dancing to a tune Such an enthralling dance Oh she's coquetting with the moon Illuminating the heavens Lighting up the skies Like a diamond delicately strewn So ethereal She jumps and twirls Like a dainty ballerina So out of this world But she's got to hurry up The sun is on its way There will be no let up End this amorous array To discouple this heavenly tryst Just like yesterday When she tried to persist And the days before that But baby you can't twist These legislations Go get all miffed Just like yesterday When you tried to desist And the days before that You catchin' my drift? Eyes heavy with slumber Vision covered in mist I sleep to the sight of a blazing sky To the sight of a passionate rift Dreaming about this celestial pair They danced and hugged and kissed -S.Layaan.

Heavenly Tryst
I promise things were looking up The return was the cherry on top No more half assed conversations No more forced legislations Things were finally going back to the way they were You know the cupcake stage without the saboteur The late night connections The spark with no reflections My heart's saying he's finally back But my mind would always bushwhack Lying in state of overthinking and assuming But always it's reality that's consuming Guess it's true people change But when they change with their surroundings it's awfully strange Back at square one The feelings like a submachine gun The hope is lost again No use in making amends It's obvious your not on his mind when he's there Come to think of it it's not ******* fair

Same Old Doomed Love
The bronze-scorched mud knobbed unhinged sculpture grows Cinderella down to root knots, ground is grubbed chapped hats of acorns hit porticoes before snows honeybees cake their hives closed and wax hubbed humiliation hardens as color dapples swelling seed-commas split beneath the frost piety’s ignored until next year’s apples night sky is grape-leafed, blackberry sauced ineffable brutes grow cold to the pinnacle rhetorical dross groundswells legislations the long-legged wind tramples our spectacle rains mock each leaf into pickled munitions rocks are nothing but hermitages sent by the moon prescient hardness sets its chin to the ground hankering for battle, totalitarianism thrives by noon each soldered twig unloomed, unraveled, uncrowned we have severed ties to reason’s substantial contents in the muddle it’s not the empowerment you had democracy dies bewildered blind with miscontents unhinged, unconcerned to find the hanging chad we’re scissored down to our primary chaos all paralogisms who dwell in a dream that justifies our fall.

November
Sublime revelations flood the mind seemingly genius ideas left to die inside stifling anger left to stir left to assault the conscience faultless enemies never persecuted based on fabrications build up from the fallacies society teaches preaches nameless faces cry these lies I trust and find they'll eat you alive deter any attempt to strive Indiscretion Humiliation Intimidation fight it and realize to stray from the conformist legislations Is to be in the true depths of a life worth living.
