the sea-tide sprays

like his thoughts

the wood splinters

gives way to gavel

the city emerges;

a beacon before me

strip malls and shops

adorned with their little bells;

bedizened with lights

every corner, every crease

here, in winter
I see

the ice melts

with his mind, in its time

his blood runs thick

as the skin it sits under

this heat will scorn whatever callous I sport,

so

the sun will burn whatever grudge off of me,

so

if you come home...

Promises made by mortal man
Are rarely met by mortal hand
For though they strive to win your heart
Such passions land far from their start

They'll paint, so clear, a future bliss
And draw you in with blinding kiss
But just when you have bought the dream
Man finds pursuits more worthy to deem

Ambition, sport and other girls
Whose flattering words and smiles like pearls
Will tempt a fellow to leave his nest
And lie upon another's breast

'Tis pain so sharp you think you'll die
And tears aren't found enough to cry
A torture rack would be better friend
With all its tearing limb to limb

To have your innards disemboweled
Or face the fiercest lion's growl
Would be kinder punishment than this
From one who knew your ****** kiss

And yet within this darkest night
A hint of moonbeam's softest light
Might rise upon such blistered soul
And shine into its gaping hole

For romance still may spark a flame
And whisper to your heart by name
To woo you in your bleakest hour
With promises of healing power

Promises unlike the others you've known
Whose good intentions were quickly thrown
Away by the frailty of human flesh
When sin's entanglements did enmesh

No, this One's words are wholly sure
His heart and mind and will are pure
His faithfulness cannot be shaken
Nor His covenant love ever be taken

He chose you before He made the sun
And said to the Father, "I want that one!"
He searched you out through all your years
Through all your joys and pains and fears

And now He waits for you to grasp
That deepest pleasure lies in His clasp
That His own kiss brings highest delight
That His face is eye's sweetest sight

It's He alone Who can fill you up
And saturate your empty cup
When life has left you hollow and dry
And numb to further wish to try

When memories lie tarnished with stains
And not one worthy dream remains
He reaches in with perfect hope
That pulls you up like saving rope

And as He wipes tears from your eyes
He says to you: I am the Prize!
Take hold of Me and drink My love
Come sit with Me in realms above

For I have blessings prepared for you
That you've never imagined, but oh it's true
I long to give you all of Me
To draw you close and let you see

That in your pain you know Me best
That heart's rejection finds its rest
In this sweet fellowship of intimacy
Where you are made to look like Me

I'll give you love like you've not known
Enough to see your will o'erthrown
Enough to pour it out upon
That very one who did you wrong

For that one, too, knows thirst of soul
And needs My love to fill the hole
Which, though he's tried hard to ignore,
Pleads, "More and more and more and more!"

But if he never should respond
Still, that pure love will seal the bond
That ties you to My own heartbeat
For then you'll see My love complete

For though the world resists Me still
I love them fiercely and always will
I've known rejection like no other
From bride and kindred and friend and brother

And when you love through hate and scorn
A jewel within your heart is born
For then you glimpse My own heart's breaking
And learn My secrets of rarest taking

To rejoice in the face of bitter spite
Requires sure death but will invite
Your soul to dance in gardens of bliss
Where you will know My Lover's kiss

So come and dance with Me, make haste
There's no spare moment left to waste
Abundant life waits through this door
With thrills and pleasures evermore!

Verse 1:

You shed a tear
for every hair
that I lost

You held my hand
through every stone
that I crossed

And now you wonder
how you'll live
when I'm gone

But when you feel under
just remember
this song

Chorus:

I'll love you
in every way that
I can

I'm just not sure
what those ways
will be

So look for me
in the kinder words
of strangers

Look for me
in the patterns
In the clouds

I'm not sure
What I'll do
But I'll find
Some ways
To love you

So look
for me

Verse 2:

And when I cross
The other side
Of this viel

I'll drop a crumb
along every step
of my trail

And when I find
the light on the
other side

I'll be right back
to comfort your
troubled mind

Chorus

Bridge:
There'll be
no rest
for me

I'll be back
haunting
your dreams

Things might not
go according
to plans

But I will do
The best that
I can

Chorus

Today my sister died…or maybe it was yesterday
I’m not really sure …how… why… or  when… it doesn’t matter now
If only I could talk to her again
I would let her know…
That If I knew that our brief encounter would be our last
I could have been kinder
The words flew thru out of my mouth
I wish I could take them back
Yes maybe I could have been a better sister
You pushed me away so much
That I had no reason the stay
You were wicked… spiteful… and …mean…
But you were my sister
You never moved on with your life
You suffered from the day Daddy died
Never to love again…
Your high expectations were written in stone…
In your cold …broken… sad… heart
You never knew the love you so needed
You never got what you deserved
You asked so little of life
Yet should have gotten the world
Your life was not sprinkled with true happiness
You were loved...but only felt pain
Why I will never know…
You had so much love to give
But you never found peace..
In life and
Now death
I now wish you peace
I wish you love
I wish you were here with me again
(roll your eyes at me…I know you want to)
Love is for giving
Love is Forgiving
I wish that from you…
Rest in heaven my sister

It's funny how a handful of
stories that make you fall, love, cry and sparkle
make one's heart so hard.

The ones I have met, these
lovely, flawed strangers in their eyes
full of rain clouds and shimmers of hope
They tell me of what's happened; they believed in lies.

I keep them at arm's length; tired of hurting but
not entirely closing them off; my ears hunger for
their lost souls and the depths of their bodies.
Learning to trust and listen is fun after
crashing, burning, dying momentarily.

They have also fallen, tears frozen on their cheeks,
like I did, in the arms of a past lover; the familiarity was comforting.
It's funny, I say, how life brings us all around in its
magnetic pulls and waterfalls,
We get to be thankful, to be grateful, because
We have turned into diamonds after ashes.

Diamonds, they said, are created after immense pressure,
So we were thrown down from the heavens of
false promises and cracked lips,
We are beautiful, hard, cold and
glowing as bright as the fire
that nearly killed us.

Let us hold hands and
learn from it all
so we can heal

and then choose to be kinder,
in this world of ambivalent edges.
Menna grace Apr 2018
Cherry and red wine
near mountains, under the sky
life is brighter but not kinder somehow
under this tiny blueness
I write down my feelings
may it reach to the seventh sky
O dear whoever you are
you should know that
I need her
I need her more than the earth needs the sun
since the day my hands touched hers
I'm still drunk somehow

love is suffering I confess
it never meant happiness and that's the way it is
but I would choose suffering over happiness
because through hell
I will find my heaven
through hell
I will find my heaven
and I will find her.

EDIT

On Awakening in the morn
After the nights respite
There is a gentle stillness
It's the peace before the fight.

The thoughts are now in motion
The mind now in a spin
The recorder is replaying
Its mechanical habitual sin

It starts to build momentum
Like a terrorist with a gun
Engaging us in false beliefs
A battle that can't be won.

By 9am its in full swing
Like a monkey on a tree
From one branch to another
Destroying reality.

With attention and practice
We can play an active role
We can focus and observe
thoughts that benefit our soul.

A thought that's good and wiser
Creates the space to see
And it's a sweet reminder
Of a kinder way to be.

So when a thought doth enter
Depending which one it is
Remember you are the power
That rejects or allows it in.

A little voice will tell you
Don't engage or get  involved
If a thought is Self defeating
Let it's futility dissolve.

It's a matter of watching
Don't prosecute or defend
Be the impartial loving judge
Your real self is your friend

It takes time and practice
To mutate  old beliefs
For we cannot serve two masters
It's time to deport the thief.

We are the creators
With the gift of will to choose
Dispel the false intruder
your real self can not lose.

This is a task of love
From self hate and  self doubt
A passage on our journey
We can navigate our way out.

This is our new passport
The authentic stamp our own
When the thief has been demoted
thrown off the stolen throne.
Peace
Old poem tidied up. One of the early one.

The tapestry of alphabet, imagery of woven words

Textures of emotions felt, like plush and faux furs,

Yet having depth—a love with kinder, deeper oceans…

Let’s document these histories with poetry & verse.

I love you like the moon
Igniting the path before me
Glorious and bright
I love you like the stars
Unable to break my gaze
From your beautiful light
I love you like the trees
Standing so strong and powerful
Cleansing the air I breathe
I love you like the ocean waves
Pulling me into your arms
And out of my head
I love you for you
Because you are amazing
And the way you love me
Is better than any drug I've taken
And the way you kiss me
Is sweeter than any sugar I've tasted
You are warmer than the sunshine
Shining across my bare skin
You are kinder than anyone
I've ever come across in this life
You let me be myself and embrace it
And you love me through my faults
I am the luckiest human alive
To share this existence with you
I love you tremendously
Deeply
Purely
And I look forward to all of the amazing experiences
All of the the pain we may share and conquer
Every moment
In the beautiful life that we build together
Robin Lemmen Oct 2018
Now when we are together
There is familiarity in your eyes
Our bodies like magnets
But our hearts no longer align
And every small difference
Between our definitions
Of wrong and right
Of care and love
Screams louder than memories
Making me wish I somehow
No longer knew you
And we were strangers again
But the thing is
You always find my calm
Still my ever aching mind
Hold on tight
Let me go all at the same time
I am not sure which is better
What would be a kinder farewell
But I anticipate that this time
You and I
Any and all concepts of us
Has settled for a silent last breathe

Goodbye, our time has come.

Ain't no justice in money,
ain't no freedom in running,
painted streets with blood; stunning,
distracted populace with scumming,
hands up,
don't matter,
lead humming,
ain't no home left to be coming,
ain't no justice in money,
ain't no lives matter,
not to the people in charge of the chatter,
the talking head,
walking dead,
brain splattered,
All I hear is stifled laughter,

Oddities and odysseys,
life in the hottest seas,
that's what we gonna see,
not just you and me but our families, sisters, mothers, fathers,  sons, daughters,
cannot live if the sun blisters tomorrow and it runneth over.

I feel drunk but I know I'm sober,
no drinks for the son of man,
not til he older,
wiser,
speak a bit bolder,
kinder,
kind words,
to be issued to say that we miss you,
and I should kissed you; goodbye,
but now I got no time.

Always in new ties but old suits,
like trees barking for new roots,
and leaves darkened for Fall blues,
like hard news,
like black versus black versus white versus blues versus us versus you toos, ain't no mistaking the voiceless,
choiceless.

Most broke destroyed **** for misclaiming no justice,
we shouldn't hush this,
we need this to bust it,
or we end up busking,
do you understand what I'm busting?

Ain't no difference between us and kings,
so why we let them speak to us like just things,
a means to their ends but that means an end to us.

freedom don't ring,
ain't no freedom in running,
ain't no justice in money,
only justice in one thing,
and that's the spirit,
all consuming,
and trusting.

so let that spirit sing,
let it take you over,

Let the voice of the Lord and the father fill you until love runneth over.

Our mothers will be raised up,
praised up,
and through them we can face em,
find strength to save em,
and save us.
