"immigration" poems
I like immigrants, immigration. Legal immigration, Jane passionately corrects. Actually my goal is a borderless world. Gathering the neighborhood like family. The men discuss sterilizing welfare mothers. I say You're working       around the edges, humanity has exceeded the carrying capacity of the planet, even those with jobs. And spouses. And houses. Yet it's an idyll of an early summer evening, new cut grass, two baseball teams of children playing in it. Safe from Pakistan. News photos of Muslim refugees, women in blue robes, biblically carrying children away from holocaust. The fundamentalist army not far behind, beheading sinners, sure in its righteousness as the Holy Roman Empire. Somehow Joel Osteen the evangelist comes up while talking about how the Catholic Church is irrelevant in North       America, even Latin America and Africa are going evangelical. Izzi likes Osteen, awesome extemporaneous speaker, no teleprompter, up from bootstraps message. My wife says he's probably Jewish. Fortunately no one claims the Holocaust never happened or slavery       was voluntary. What is the carrying capacity of the planet? In China is it each couple or each adult that gets one offspring? As life expectancy and standards rise, family size diminishes. We draw together into greener, tighter cities. The children of three monotheistic religions, atheists and agnostics play in city streets, work farm fields, explore forests, deserts,       grasslands, space. Two ancient female poets: Enheduanna and Sappho are a revelation. The clarity of their complaints: lost lover, lost city.

i sit at the library computer. across the room TUTOR JOHN prepares his lessons for the free CITIZENSHIP CLASSES he conducts for the punjabis, mexicans hmungs and others seeking to pass the immigration service citizenship test. he is a great man. it is not surprising to say that he likes me and is my friend as i am his friend why is that? in the simplicity the seed forms itself into viable human forms and human beings this we all know yes we do

IMMIGRATION
these days looking around the globe one might believe that we are travelling in time just in the wrong direction regression as progress seems to be the dominant notion of the day creating wannabees in various disguises      populist czars, sultans, nationalists, dictators,      assorted self-appointed snake-oil salesmen      and saviors of their peoples’ wealth and health, trumpeting fences, walls, tough immigration laws, etc., etc.   to keep out all those aliens      who otherwise are welcome      as our partners in the global trade      that seems to dominate the world of greed so we can all be ourselves      whatever that might mean claiming to solve the problems of tomorrow      with romanticized memories of yesterday is hopeless and quite dangerous do you remember what that glorified past actually was?

Immigration
i still straddle the fence on this immigration reform manifesto i see both sides of the story it's good to have the grandfather clause for the immigrants in my bloodstream - the scrappy scots-irish-ingles-welsh in me - but too late for the cherokee behind the old fences of history. r ~ 11/9/14

immigration reform
the smell of a hospital disinfecting hands and identities placed on the counter. a passport-size ambition a fingerprint of luck. you have arrived. you are here. you came in a bus full of languages funnelled into the room 'welcome to - ' lost and found in translation. you cannot understand you will try to understand. your newness. new you. you are new. you do not understand you are here.

immigration office
I don't want to talk about the weather I don't want to talk about how humid it was today, or how it rained some time last week I want to talk about if you think the aliens are real I want to talk about which type of flower reminds you of your mother And I want to talk about what song from the last five years reminds you of summer I want to talk about the pets you had growing up and their names and the marks on their coats I want to talk about the first time you fell in love and what her smile looked like Did she have crooked teeth? Were her lips painted red the day you noticed you loved her? I want to talk about what kind of toppings you like on your pizza And I want to talk about how you like your coffee in the morning Do you prefer more sugar, more cream? Black coffee, or no coffee at all? I want to talk about your stance on immigration laws or abortion or gun control I want to talk about where you have most felt at home Was it the basement at your mother's place, where you first got laid? Or maybe it is the baseball field where you scored your first home run? I want to talk about who you are when no one is looking, because that's when it counts the most Do you always spare a dollar for the homeless man under the bridge at the intersection by work? Do you hold the door open for old ladies with six bags in their arms and a coat full of cat hair? I want to talk about everything and anything except the weather

I Don't Want To Talk About the Weather
nothing flights these skies tonite nothing burns above our heads or crackles in the air or glows in the houses about us as we pace the cool and empty the alleys and the meatless streets and the clean scaleless cobbles carry our patternless birch-bare feet a sail less nite but a kite to the imagination a bringer of new lighter beings osmosis through our faultless immigration Previously published [Show Thieves 2010 : An Anthology Of Contemporary Montreal Poetry - 8TH HOUSE PUBLISHING]

A Response
Send the immigrants back; unfortunately the referendum was based on that. Misplaced Hate, Created by power, Forcing a debate of the darkest hour. Hate towards immigration, but wait! What if you need an operation? The health service is crumbling, needs multiculturalism to keep the cogs turning. So you want a debate on immigration? Let’s talk about your integration. What’s your heritage? Where is your blood line from? I doubt it will be a solely British one! Our kids walk the streets with knives and guns, yet our politicians talk with plums. Claim to understand society, but driving flash cars is their priority. Don’t give a **** about local business rather see corporations strip our economy. Self-Serving politicians feed the fat cats ambition, Cameron or Corbyn? It’s us the people who are suffering!

Misplaced Hate
Ever had the feeling of being trapped in a glass box with the air slowly running out, with every breath? In sun, rain, snow and storm, the box gets dark or warm but what you can do always remains the same. Have you just simply wanted to walk away or break free? To travel the world taming Lion cubs and petting great white sharks? To wake up to a sunrise in a Dutch farm and watch it set over the Mediterranean sea? To teach children in Thailand or India? To salsa on the streets of Mexico or be blinded by the lights in Dubai? Have you ever wanted to be border-less? To not be punished for being born in a country where the sun is hot and people are poor? Have you ever just wanted to work, get a place, pay taxes, and not ignore the growling of your stomach so your 5 pound takeaway stretches over 3 days postponing the date to buy the next food stock? Have you ever wanted to check your bank account without having your fingers crossed, because even though you know the exact balance you hope by some miracle it will be more? Have you prayed for immigration to back the hell off leaving you to make a living without risking deportation? Have you ever got tired of playing by the rules when the Albanian Mafia and Walmart makes more money per hour than what you'd make in a lifetime, or two? With heart aches and emotional games, and attending Sunday mass becoming more of a cliché, with rejection and doors closed, at the cost of owning a brown passport, with your head spinning and back against the wall, have you wondered what life wants from you at all? To all the women being trafficked for *** and the children slaving away spinning Persian carpets, tonight it's too cold to snow outside my glass box. Inside, it's too sad to cry...

Some voted for freedom from that rusty EU shackle. Discussed immigration issues they were unable to tackle. An establishmentarian North, South divide. When poverty strikes there's nowhere to hide. Deep trenched anger rising from the disenfranchised vote. The pound devalued as the right wing gloat. Uncertain times causes a global ripple. Bank of England acts to avoid economic ******* But what of our neighbours? Our brothers in arms? Democratic victors, do they know who this harms? Young against old, divisions laid bare. Political wrangling, do they really care? The Prime Minister resigns and a new chapter to be written. Democracy wins in a diverse, Great Britain.

If only we could fly like   those that tweet or hoot without aid of jet or   parachute For I sure don't like   wings that boom and roar just so they can take off   and soar Ah, to fly without petrol, diesel   or fuel Oh, to halt that taloned midair   duel * Birds they don't pollute   the air nor need they any airline   fare So if only I too could rise   and glide and let the wind be my   sole guide I'd be happy to fly all the   way to 'em' faraway stars if I was assured I'd risk   no charring scars. Flying without aviation   formalities I could be sightseeing   many more cities Ah I so wish to fly just   like a jay or jackdaw Then I'd fly across all and   every border For I'd know nor follow no man-made law! If only we needed no darned immigration pass or visa We could have visited so many more touristy places Say even the spectacular and popular pyramids of Giza And we could have known different cultures and races Ah, a stylish photo next to the leaning tower of Pisa And return with exotica like a framed pic of the Mona Lisa

Jumbo jets vs jackdaws or jays
It is not my story to tell: Languishing dreams in the midst of barbed wire fences, Fearless laughter, We add lemon, chile powder and salt to this border. They carry these stories, Heavy as a sack filled with indignities, Weighty, like your grandmother’s advice, Cumbersome, like this daily mental displacement. I have not bought big things as of lately, In my mind I plan my exits, I constantly check my relocation fund, “What if” is a constant in my lexicon. I often break in tears at the sound of an immigrant story, My emotions become gallons of water: broken and splashed by the boots of immigration officers, Little do they know, we are cacti: Tough and our seeds also flourish post mortem. I want to sing an immigrant song: Less like butterflies who migrate, But more like dislocated nations, Collateral flesh, caught up in steel thorns. Rest assured we will survive, Like leaves of siempreviva, Even after torn away from our stem, We will grow our own roots: Defiant, resilient, and with a stubborn willingness to belong. We are you.

We are stopped for special checks At TSA and immigration We are murdered In our house of worship Six innocent lives lost Oak Creek Gurdwara, 2012 Racial slurs hit our hearts: Sand ****** ISIS Towel head Out of fear We stop wearing our beautiful salwar kameezes, lenghas, saris, and kurta pajamas In colors and embroidery your clothes could only ever dream of We take off our crowns you call turbans And replace them with baseball caps We think twice about speaking Punjabi, Our mother tongue, Around those that don't recognize it We stop packing our grandma's handmade saag and roti To school for lunch And start eating Processed Lunchables We separate into two people Our American selves And our Punjabi selves Almost never does anyone meet both All because You don't know The difference Between a Sikh and a terrorist

Ignorance
(think Mexican Hat Dance:) How tall? How tall? How tall? Will Donald Trump build the wall? The wall! The wall! The wall! Will Mexico pay for it at all? How high? How high? How high? How high will they have to jump To clear the wall and prove to us all That they’ve pacified Donald Trump (bump, bump) To clear the wall and prove to us all That they’ve pacified Donald Trump? When you’re talking about immigration, Whether merit based or chain migration, According to Trump proclamation, “Illegals, jump over the wall”!! (NOT AT ALL!!) How tall? How tall? How tall? Can Donald Trump build the wall When not a single Democrat Is willing to fund it at all? How long? How long? How long? How long do we have to wait To end this shutdown? When they sit their butts down To end this gridlock stalemate!! Consider the workers who are not getting paid; That is the part we most hate!! To achieve our homeland protection, Not just winning the 2020 election, The Pelosi and Schumer connection Should grant funding to give Trump OUR wall!! Give Pelosi and Schumer A kick in the bloomers If they continue to stall!! Written 1/15/19 by Marcus Well (day 25 of the US Government Partial Shutdown) (Who the hell is Marcus Well? Those that know, please don’t tell)

HOW TALL? HOW TALL, THE WALL?
I have a life experience to share. I don't know if you would care. In the last unforgettable year, I applied for FSW/Federal Skilled Worker Immigration Program in Canada. Unfortunately, I've already reached the said quota. I was denied for my dream visa. Though I was qualified to apply, I was refused for two simple reasons: "No current employer and Ph.D. degree." My self-esteem got very low, I didn't know what to do Because I have nothing to show To my friends who kept asking me. So it's time to break my silence. I told them what happened And they have felt sorry for me. My wife has lost her self-confidence But I told her to never give up Even though I was hurting inside. On this coming May 4, 2013, CIC offices will accept FSW applications. Though I've the necessary qualifications, I don't know if I will ever apply again Because I still have the unbearable pain.

Trauma
Immigration Reform:  1. Letting illegal immigrants stay in the USA because multi-billionaires paid oodles of cash to corrupted politicians.  Letting even more illegals stay here AND providing a free education to their children while not having to support the school systems that are teaching them (in spanish) because they don't even have to pay taxes on their income.  2.  The royal sodomizing of The United States of America soon to be referred to as New Hispania.

Challenge: Redefining Immigration Reform
When I hear FEMINISM, RACISM, SEXISM, IMMIGRATION or the TORTURE OF A NATION, my mind cries and my eyes go blank. Children ****** waving to their teacher Their teacher waving back A grenade is launched and chunks of her pained memory soar through the windows of the bus. War just won't stop. In the Internet, White-washed Latinos diss their mother's birth throw stones at their father's graves. Praise Uncle Sam Although Caucasians are abusing them because of their skin pigmentation Oh great U.S.A. Who incarcerated Madiba and murdered MLK. Killed more humans than Adolf and now want to buy them. With a small piece of useless land in New Mexico and Kentucky Fried Chicken. You PATHETIC CHICKEN who wants to own the world even though you haven't been here one stinkin millennium. A decade of power and now you patrol the streets. please You can't even patrol your own streets please

YOU CANT EVEN PATROL YOUR OWN STREETS
The news will say we're suffering from excess immigration That a rampant hoard of foreigners has fallen on our nation But truthfully, there hasn't been a native Briton here Since people dressed in mammoth skin and hunted with a spear Our language is a mixture of a dozen different tongues We munch our way through poppadoms, fajitas and fu-yungs When cheering at a football match, we're infamously vocal Our teams may be the finest but the players won’t be local Genetically, a Briton is a multi-cultured stew With Romans, Saxons, Vikings and the Celts, to name a few Our national drink is Indian, the Germans make our beer The TV comes from China and the table from IKEA Potatoes from America and onions grown in Spain A multitude of British things arrive by boat and plane The rain that falls upon our hills has blown from over seas And with it come migrating birds to nest in British trees The Royal Windsor family have Greek and German genes So think about just what it is that being British means We're stronger with our differences, the best of humankind Our nation, not an island but a common state of mind

My Great Britain
I was pulling up in the car park at the Immigration Removal Centre When I realised that I'd completely f 'ed up Having remembered: - portable recording studio - condensor microphones x 2 (one of them doesn't work, dunno which one, they look the same) - dynamic microphone (sometimes works) - XLR cables x 2 (in a tangled mess) - Jack cables x 2 (joining the party) - headphones - headphone splitter (a remedy for people who are always on their phone?!) - big-to-little adapters - kettle lead (so named because it dates back from when the kettle was king) - guitar - and two folders of important bits of paper (well, at least some of it might be important) I suddenly realised that I'd forgotten the only genuinely essential thing. My passport. You can't get in without your passport. That's the rule and the rules don't bend. Security is paramount. I find my colleague, Lucky, sitting in his car. Lucky: "Kev, you aren't gonna believe this but..." He didn't need to say anymore. I knew that he had done the same thing. Lucky and I were in the same *** of s***. But for some reason they made an exception. We were lucky. It must had rubbed off. (true story)

Lucky
My parents left our homeland for me More than five thousand, five hundred miles To travel to a land ripe with opportunity But at times the ripest fruit tended to spoil However, they always counted God's blessings and moved on My parents have endlessly toiled With their younger son on the way And four years of American experience They strived at greater lengths each and every day It is difficult to set aside one's own will To tend to a family To pay an immigration agency's bills Yet they have done it, tried and true Citizenship, I pray Is coming soon One day, I will properly honor them Meanwhile, This country will learn to accept others, but only with Him as its precious gem
