This isn't Rome I'm standing still because of statutes Stone grill: I a carved marble statue not a muscle dares, Near frozen by the fear, let it go I hear over shoulder: perfect pass if I get shot over a penalty Is it clear? my arms are arms? a load chopper; in his shades, do those aviators make me even darker? (if I studied aviation I could take off I can hover, I can…) Wait. he's moving closer, every hair strand an antenna, I can feel him, The smell of disdain on his glare, stained blood on his hands, another brother, my brother Guiltier with every pace so --  show your hands, foot mixed with concrete I take this order serious, my motions are motive and mistaken for resist, Wait. Is it his stare or am I ****** (Why did I decide to go my friends wouldn't believe this…) limitations to the thoughts; am I arrested or caught? I'm cold on the surface, Erode so slow is my sediment evidence, A blue god so I'm pacified, I'm hesitant, he calls and I say that I'm innocent, I'm witnessing the transitioning from eruption to ocean -- volcanic Blue Medusa, can you only sculpt destruction? (I'm not 3 dimensional, I'm real and I matter, I'm real and I matter) I'm real, But I shatter, Gravel if determined that I'm rude so I can't breath, Gravel if My license plate removed I don't leave, I don't speak, I don't flee, I'm not free, I believe, That this happen to my mothers, mother mothers' brother, Brother from another was granite and granted he's valuable but only in a home -- of course I'm quartz in the making A corpse still shaking Cause a wallet was mistaken Or I.D. was misplaced So, I'm on the rocks since the bar says that I'm a criminal, velvet rope divider marks my life and a vigil, a wake, or a hashtag, you choose, glass house, Cold Stone’s, rocky road, Medusa licks his finger tips same finger which petrified me in the first place, Reminded I'm in Rome as I'm standing there motionless a statue for display or a trophy for the kitchen, this art is not for sale there will be no shipping, With solidarity through our solidification, It won't matter if I look back, I Matter and I’m Black.

no weapons, no drugs. he had the eyeballs of an aztlan prince. touches water. touches hot-grill to meat /repeat/ /replete with cerveza.                 to roil in love of sun said lights, all things lovely.                 to return by city driven lights, lake to shore to shoulder. [to sleep.] [to dream.] dad is on the grill, cookin’ up something scorched. swill is on the lake, skiin’ up something else. sweat & stretching lungs, the sun busting gut. unseen, bikini pink & green sauce. pass the tortillas. winterous: awake. ice-fish and stoke the pipes of flash and holy hash. ice-fish our favorite frozen mass. we all grow beards, untrusting of men who wobble blades to their faces on the daily. spring sprung and spigot. we return to blushing shores of wet rocks & girlfriends. girl bands exploding amps from atop houseboats in styles of the highly drunk and tameless. plucked in memory of the ******* to come before them.

In the old house up the hills - Yes, the one that gives you chills Whenever you walk by its fence - Lives someone who, no offense, Looks like she'd puts kids on grill. Children, puppies, all she'd **** For food. Lady who, probably, likes to Know the places each kid hikes to. There she, later in the day, Waits for village kids to stray. Some will die and some live on. Who? That really depens on Her mood. Some say that she used to snitch, Others say that she's a witch! Nobody was ever in The house whose walls are made of skin. Nobody would ever dare To set their foot on the porch where She stood. They'll never know that her kitchen Smelled like flowers, most bewitchin', They won't see her paintings, neat, Her living room where you could meet A fire giving warm embrace. And alongside her fireplace The wood. Now, if you got in, you'd stare on stinky fish bowls, everywhere, whose cloudy water calls for changing, and rooms in need of rearranging. But since you never really tried, No one knows the lady died. Yes she's dead for good.

Terrorism has mushroomed all across the world. Greenery here is not less, some terror must be unfurled. I 've heard that some desi terror outfit has taken birth. More shadowy than shadow, their secrets difficult to unearth. Help is required from security agencies of developed land. There they lock up terrorists for years without trial on remand. They've trained dogs to smell terrorists before they become one. Our country is developing fast, soon it will be second to none. Full use of the cyberspace this local foxy terror group makes. In this virtual world whose identity is real? whose fake? This tricksy group makes bombs sophisticated, smart. It targets selected only, suddenly before they can depart. But few unintended ones died in blast, must be suicide bombers, Indeed! Terrorists don't understand political equations, what is the need? Now our Police catches terrorists just minutes after the blast. Their must be some-kind of relief for citizens shocked, aghast. My little brother eats my head, wants to catch a tiger alive. Jocularly I advised it is animal dangerous, flesh and bone it can rive. Instead we can catch a cat and with continuous torture and grill we can make it confess to be a tiger, with third degree surely it will.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer I'm sure you remember that song Well that was my grandma who was hit And again, they got part of it wrong See, she really was run over by reindeer But it was nothing like they said Those deer were driving a milk truck That left my poor grandma nearly dead My poor grandma just got done milking And was putting the cows back in the field When eight drunk reindeer in a milk truck Crashed thru the fence and didn't yield They just kept on going thru the barn yard Straight thru the creek and down the hill Grandma looked like a bug on a windshield With pieces of her wig on that milk truck's grill Now poor grandma never seen it coming Cause she was looking the other way We even found that poor womans glasses Stuck on a scarecrow near the hay Well, now my grandma had not been drinking Like that song had claimed she was But somehow they try to make it funny Seems like those city folk always does Well, that's about as much as I can tell you Because the lawsuit is still pending Those reindeer got some north pole lawyer And we heard he's pretty good at defending So beware of reindeer driving milktrucks For they mean to cause your grandma harm And don't forget try to remind your grandmas To look both ways when she leaves the barn

A little waiting Some vigorous pushing A quick look around On a shaky ground Grabbed the nearby seat Some rest to the feet In minutes squeezed inside By a woman on the same ride Awkward journey The CON for cheap money. Ticket punched Some snacks quietly munched Feel tall from the rest I am in a red BEST The driver is in a hurry I smell some fish curry Over a bridge Some dogs cringe Music for my ears No more travelling fears Nothing gone wrong Now I feel strong My stop is next Replying to a text Trip a little but its okay I think it’s a good day The red bus brakes My balance shakes I fly right on the drivers grill With my face drilled All eyes on me I can barely see I shiver as I walk the stairs No one even cares People just want to get to their destination And I stand numb at the bus station. -Zainab Attari

The Bus Ride
(song lyrics) Verse 1: Now I can’t go fishin’, ‘cuz ya’ sold my rod and reel Can’t go snow-racin’, ‘cuz ya’ sold my snowmobile And I got flaws - that’s for sure - and sometimes run amuck But the final straw that I can’t take: Ya’ sold my pickup truck Chorus: You can burn the house, shoot my dog and stomp my ol’ guitar But when you sold my pickup truck, well, Honey, ya’ went too far Verse 2: I didn’t care when ya’ bought that stuff on TV’s QVC Or ‘cause ya’ always thought of me as your private Money Tree Or catalog-orderin’ ever’thing from within ol’ Sears Roebuck But I’ll be danged if I’ll sit still since ya’ sold my pickup truck! Chorus: You can burn the house, shoot my dog and stomp my ol’ guitar But when you sold my pickup truck, well, Honey, ya’ went too far Verse 3: So I went and saw a gypsy gal, and a curse on you imposed To put sand in your chewin' gum and runners in your ***** hose And all your clothes and accessories to never, ever match And chiggers in your bed sheets - so you’ll always have to scratch! Chorus: You can burn the house, shoot my dog and stomp my ol’ guitar But when you sold my pickup truck, well, Honey, ya’ went too far Verse 4: I seen ya’ last Saturday night at Bubba’s Bar and Grill The image of you in stripes and checks remains within me still And them red chigger welts upon your nose and face Tells me that the gypsy curse is workin’ ever’ place! Chorus: You can burn the house, shoot my dog and stomp my ol’ guitar But when you sold my pickup truck, well, Honey, ya’ went too far

Friday night no home football game. Video games are a bore. Wrestling the same old stuff. So what good is the weekend. Sunday is here what a thrill needed to clean. The rotten grill. Monday can't get here fast enough. Then only four days to be completed. Then it's back to the weekend!

Weekend thrill.
For once, I'm at a loss for words I can't write eloquence into our anniversary yesterday Because it was magical in and of itself You planned me a quiet picnic in the woods, just you and me Cooking hot dogs on a charcoal grill we didn't know how to use And eating chicken salad Going kayaking was a dream, paddling along On a quiet tributary to a bigger lake, we went back into the woods We sat in our little floating craft and talked about first kisses and magic We wondered at how simple acts could have led us apart and how happy we are together I noticed the calmness of the water and the intricacies of the ripples when I indulged my paddle into the stream We were out for an hour, just paddling along Talking, living, laughing, loving together. Just being together We eventually made our way back in, an hour car ride away from home Talking some more, laughing together, enjoying the company We went back to my place and ate dinner with my family Shrimp Scampi with salad and bread Then roasted marshmallows and laughed when they became torches Nothing is better than marshmallows with the people you love After that we set up my hammock and just swung there and watched the sun slip below the horizon Taking in the scenery, we didn't need to talk, because there was nothing more that could have been said It was magical until my little brother came over to us and asked why we weren't talking and called us boring But he doesn't understand, not quite yet Not until he is sitting on a hammock with a girl, and knows there isn't anything to say It was a beautiful day, wonderful by itself

So… he looked on, watching from afar the imagery of family. Now alone, sitting in place on an old cranky stubborn porch, eighty-one years of tears laughter and memory/smiled; his smiled gleamed through the haze and humidly of another summer day: a day that reminded him of his younger years when the joy in many eyes gathered for a day of barbecue and rejoice in his voice, as his raspy cough briefly interrupted the moment, was the song of an elderly man missing the days of innocence but briefly in this time, in the sight of the young boy he now studied from across the street he saw a familiarity. His vision saw support and togetherness; his hearing heard the song of compassion and in the charcoaled flavored heat, his heart felt what he thought was forgotten; the genius and destiny of hope. In his life he has seen once inspiring brick-layered sidewalks become the mask of crime that has kidnapped a neighborhood once proud. He has seen the dreams of children become temporarily paralyzed by the heights of poverty and many visions of fear. He watched in silence over all these years but the tears of his mind has always been vocal. The shackles of osteoarthritis that now held on to his bones and the slight battle with old-aged deafness that now challenged the vibration of harmony and not even the parade of high blood pressure marching through his veins could keep him from feeling the pain and decay of days passed. But as he looked on at the sight of burgers and hotdogs sizzling on the grill; as he looked on at the pleasantries of young and old joining in good times and fun playing the games of life; as he looked on and lived again through the body language of the young boy who now looked back at him he saw the glimpse of renewal in a community holding on to the aspects of a neighborhood’s inheritance. For the first time in many decades, he saw the enjoyment in dancing trees that waltzed in the breezes of tomorrow; he felt shades of sweat trickle down his bronzed almond skin that was the welcomed condensation of happiness and he smelled a renewed energy of genetic fortitude that was family all in the aroma of summer cooking -- and so…he dreamed on.

bar and grill pay and display machine
"...Igitur quantitates relativae non sunt eae ipsae quantitates quarum nomina prae se ferunt, sed earum mensurae illae sensibilis (verae an errantes) quibus vulgus loco mensuratarum utitur..." --D. Isaaci Newtoni. Time did not relent under the force of speculation. The only trees that could be seen were in the photographs beyond the reach of the faltering jeep. Although it was claimed that such a rugged machine would endure the longer journeys, truth explained that the truck had grown old. It had a ferocious grill to protect the radiator. cos ln q ( u ) d P d e = mu chi v ( w ) d ( y , par Z ) d ( x , hyp N ) . The sense of protection fended off any result of error on the highway. Basic footing expressed the hardness, and the light, floating away, came from electric lamps, like eyes, glowing through dust. The name of the purpose implied that sensitive eyes disliked the sudden splash of illumination. It was true; the passengers did not like the expectation of more to come. The new engines were stronger and ran cooler.

The Eyes Of The Trees
My last neighbours made no noise at all never knew they were there. But they passed away completely quiet nothing to disturb me. It did not last a new neighbour arrived my tranquillity deprived! At first not much sound came from next door hoping it would quieten down. Then louder noises emanated in the wall hammering sounds too. Worried I knocked their door to complain from anger I tried to refrain! Never a reply but a lot of vehicles came after dark many arrived and went. Few if any ever during those daylight hours when black curtains were shut. A nasty smell started to make me feel ill something burnt on a grill! I hadn't believed in vampires until the neighbour moved in next door! From then on my windows stayed tightly shut who would believe me? No animals came near which was a good thing but what would the future bring? The noises got worse even afraid to sleep an atmosphere so grim! In the end I had to leave while I could as people began to disappear! I knew what my neighbour was next to me but would they let me be? For a long time after I saw bats above my head was it my neighbour one of the undead? The Foureyed Poet.

The New Neighbour
Humans are stardust. Nothing more Nothing less. We, being stardust, are also energy. So we cannot be created Nor destroyed. Only reborn, constantly. And I think there's something Just lovely about that. I think the reason some of us like the smell of gasoline, Or the smell of a charred grill, Or just things burning, Is because that's what they say space smells like. And think those few of us Who enjoy the smell of gasoline, Charred grills, And burning things, Are those of us who somewhat remember Being nothing more, and nothing less, than a star. And I think the only people who can remember being stardust Are the newest and oldest of souls. Because they're the ones closest to both The beginning And the end. And, while I know it hurts to remember Things you cannot fathom, I think there's something beautiful-- Strangely beautiful. Obscurely beautiful, In having lived so many lives Yet still remembering when you were the very first you. Humans are stardust. Nothing more, Nothing less. We, being stardust, are also energy. So we cannot be created Nor destroyed. Only reborn, constantly. And I think there's something Just lovely about that.

On the Topic of Being Stardust.
California Kids I’ll call you up on Saturday And invite you over. Take the 101, 110 and 1; (Sounds like an equation!) And you’re there. Just use your GPS.. There’ll be a party at my house, Daft Punk playing on the Echo. It’ll be epic, Echoic! With some vintage’ tunes, Crankin’ the Beach Boys, Watching surfers Shredding out-the-back, Past prowling sharks in the shallows. Lets go to the dunes and maybe kiss. I know that you miss me, So don’t ask me why And when you come, I won’t ask “What are you doing here?” We’ll eat fish tacos, Guacamole, Pico de Gallo And drink margaritas While we debate French new wave, I’ll praise Truffaut while you Tell me that Scorsese is the man. When we get drunk enough I will suggest a walk Along the iridescent surf. You should say yes because I’m safe now that I drive electric, That I turned vegan (sorry about the fish) and wear cruelty-free clothes. I don’t grill snapper anymore And take my shoes off inside the door. Maybe we’ll make it to Tower 28, Lay down and watch the full moon Like Jim Morrison did to write. I’ll tell you I’m glad you’re alive— I’m no poet, but you know that.

I ask that you be heard, tossed about and dreamed of. It is your thoughts, my upset energies, and nightly turbulence. Sleep provokes night and life and darkness prevailing in us. When we wake up we are gone as our night precedes dawn It is always the other way, bottom up and spaces spread. At times we hear the police van’s shrieks, in night’s iron grill. I ask that you be heard, tossed about and dreamed of. It is not always the stick beating the road in rhythmic silence And olive-green overcoat with flapped pockets and heavy boots And six months old large-sized memories of a Himalayan home With black-lined large dove’s eyes flitting among coal fires Their smoke towering over the pines in snow-bound peaks. I ask that you be heard, tossed about and dreamed of. It is the turbulence we are speaking of, in the foggy sea we are Or on the peaks where everything is bound in fuzzy snow At the mountain passes where vehicles duly pass oiled by hot tea Or in the mist-filled airports where aircrafts do not take off Of politicians who decide mankind’s future in the apocalypse. I ask that you be heard, tossed about and dreamed of. It is my dreams as they were and the neighbor’s dreams In the straw-roof, in the banyan trees with glints in their eyes And much fine-powdered dust on their thick –coated leaves, In lonely watchmen’s houses on the bleak stony spaces And lonely watchmen keeping vigilant eyes on boulders Strewn in brown spaces and scraggy bushes with strange lizards. I ask that you be heard, tossed about and dreamed of. It is the towering tombs and the trees that enveloped them The children playing cricket in flying bats and stone stumps Outside the vaults where kings and queens lay dead for ages Their cold breath felt on the broken glass of Time’s windows. I ask that you, I and women play a game of kabaddi in the trees When it is still not dark enough in the minarets in the west And children are still hitting ***** visible in the green of the trees.
