"funding" poems
Every time people start to rise up, a whole buncha problematic mess gets thrown around regarding VIOLENCE. So, what is "violence" really?... It's the use of force. Plain and simple. What makes folks uncomfortable (who are otherwise comfortable in this system) is that UPRISING IS A SOMETIMES VIOLENT (read: forceful) REACTION TO SYSTEMATIC VIOLENCE: Yes, just like the Hunger Games... Thus, there are many types of violence... The fact that we are paying taxes that are funding the genocide and ****** of people of color (here and abroad) is violence. People with guns (former slave patrols and overseers, now cops) who come from outside our community and treat our folks as criminals on the daily is violence. Capitalism, i.e. wage/property/ecology-based exploitation in the name of profit is violence. The fact that LA County spends more $$ than anywhere in the world on prisons and police is violence. The fact that the US locks up more of its own people than any other country on record is violence. US aiding/funding the genocide of Palestinians at the hands of Israel is genocidal violence. From Congress, to the boardrooms, to the classrooms, from the gaze, to the unwanted touching, to the **** to the pay, Patriarchy everyday, is violence. A few people jacking some **** at Walmart or breaking a window is really minimal violence in comparison. A couple people throwing **** at armed cops is not serious violence. The idea of owning property that other must rent to live is violent. Systemic, chronic, global insecurity in the form of material poverty is violence. Wage slavery is violence. Gentrification is violence. The War On Youth, i.e. the School-to-Prison pipeline, and, thus the War-on-Drugs with its attending 76% recidivism rate in the prison-industrial complex, whose populations are disproportionately black males, is violence. The fact that people can't go to the doctor and dentist, or eat food every day is violence. Deportations are violence. Homophobia is violence. The world's largest global military that vaporizes people without due process in dozens of countries violating their biophysical and national sovereignty is violence. The United States government sanctioning the ****** of non-white, but especially Muslim bodies across the world... is violence. So, when you condemn violence, do you mean resistance? Because there is a whole lot of violence you should be condemning instead. Adapted from Emilio Lacques-Zapien

They live in huge houses, drive fancy cars Most know poverty only secondhand So how can they fix a problem... They don't really understand Given the role of a leader However, I'm convinced they are confused We live in worlds too far apart... How can they lead with similar views Their children go to private schools Only the finest and elite Their children will never need public education So they allow funding to deplete Their children will succeed I believe it's part of their plan To ensure that high society Will forever lead the average man The evidence is no secret They don't seem to care if we agree They know they hold this power So it doesn't matter if we see Our taxes keep going up Unemployment is at an all time high Life keeps getting harder for those just scrapping by The people making these decisions Of course they find it easy enough to do They're not deciding for themselves They decide for me and you The truth of the matter is... This country is ruled by hypocrisy They disguise this, however, very cleverly Today it's what we know as Democracy "A political government run by 'The People' through 'Selected' officials"... Democracy defined Compare it to the way it was truly designed Sure we get to 'select the official' But the one thing they seem to neglect They pick the people Many, that corruptive politics help select

The Government (Part 2)
The bleeding has no bias From the Congo to Dallas The days of waiting, the Fever-soar The African corpses were out Of view, from the World’s eyes If a sneeze can defile Ebola can ride airplanes Traverse Seas, all through Your plastic gloves, your pores Contagious still with death Your fear may taste the curse A thousand dead more, a common ache The bleeding has no bias Jesus will not bring you back from the Dead We have to walk through Hell alone They say, I have no more words The bleeding has no bias No funding, on protocol that works The virus rages on, splitting old scars Of what it means to be from the Old continent, of what it means to be black And the coughing up of more blood Where paranoia and fear are conditions As common as kindness and hospitality here The panic of believing a silent enemy Can catch you without you knowing These are the days of waiting These are when the numbers soar.

Ebola in Motion
Worm eats through to penetrate. Trespasses, what ***** deeds? What ichor is this to venerate? How dare eat, how dare have needs? Godly viral load unbeatable, no t-cell left to count. Wriggling in puddle inconceivable, **** upon this crucified mount. Lazarus, risen from the dead, no dog now licks your wounds. Lepers now banshees are instead social workers which we swoon. And the Roman laws and judges continue blame, hand down sentence, as degenerative generation smudges out from existence, *** penance. Dissected and pinned against wall, this writhing experiment oozes. Whilst priests and politicians naw, compassion and AIDS funding loses.

Clever minds that stretch The many elements which live as our backdrop Too often everyday is spoiled By unnecessary people, gathering ammunition For climbing invisible platforms of command These are cast aside by simple smiles and welcomes And it was. Even if the task was invisible to me at first My soul felt at home amongst these new work mates My responsible position was underwritten Given gravitas and a freedom to which I wasn't quite used The time was charged with familiar but different It was fraught but strangely healthier in paradox The honest fight was taken with gestures of family proportion Success had waned but the unity of 'knowing' was the strength That continued to support that Company In spite of the turmoil my personal facets were given air To run and to adjust, to temper and to manage Poor communication was completely disastrous The confusion of three currencies And the balance of understanding left us guessing Never mind agreement or translation Through all this, looking back my heart is lifted Not by the freedom or the ability to achieve ...mostly, It is the strength from our leader, That calm, silver haired man When many were distraught you kept us going And fed us with hope and built our confidence, Not always with the obvious But gave us the ability to win through by believing , Believing in us and building back our motivation and teasing out The raw infrastructure of our true capabilities Never before has anyone, apart from my Mother Believed in me as you did. To tackle the toughest of tasks Anything that the industry, the public or our customers Could throw at us, we dealt with it. Sadly you could do nothing at the final demise but take the role Of a father giving news of an aged relative sadly moved by A force greater than yourself I know had you the influence, the power and the funding............ You were always more than a boss Chris Your transparent enthusiasm raised our spirits And in times of worry I hope we lifted yours too. I think of you often, thank you for being a friend After we were no longer professionally connected. I see your generous smile and your warm handshake I can hear your laugh now It's always a treat to catch up over a beer. I now find you in my phone, in my photographs But mostly in my heart for being a great bloke You taught me so much. Speak soon, with love, Max

When the funding is cut So the hospitals shut That’s a Tory When the poverty bites And you lose human rights That’s a Tory Such excess Better reassess Better repossess Better get yourself private healthcare Overtaxed if you work Unemployed? Then you're scrounging on welfare When there’s bigoted views Blatant lies on the news That’s a Tory When the biggest and best Are too rich to arrest That’s a Tory But they’re lax Covering the cracks Never paying tax Claiming everything on expenses They can steal with a smile While they peddle their flimsy defences When they're guilty of fraud And they're banking abroad That's a Tory If they're selling your school When 'austere' means 'cruel' That's a Tory Too much spin Slogan and a grin Wearing pretty thin Bussing people in to applaud them Any law can be bought If you're well off enough to afford them That's all folks and remember, you can't spell Theresa May without heresy **

That’s a Tory (to the tune of That's Amore)
%% It’s about leveraging potential income to enhance output-maximizing sustainability … It’s about de-funding unsustainable income outcomes. It’s about results-based data-enhanced paradigm shifts. It’s about demobilizing upward mobility: dis-empowering gentrification by underfunding the over-entitled. It’s about de-funding unsustainability until the immeasurable metric is globally assimilated. It’s about the designated data-driver. It’s about memes as theme schemes. It’s about complicating competence through collaboration in collusion – intentionally replicating re-branding – effectively identifying best practices of the best-dressed actresses until the girl in the t-shirt says “meh”.

Immeasurable Outcomes
Encased, as an oil painting, behind a plane of glass. Years of exposure dulling the canvas, no funding to restore the brightness of the subject's lifeless eyes. They lay dormant, cloudy, From a lifetime of accumulative debris. Transferred between people, buildings, countries; Memories on display for brief intervals, Then packaged and returned to storage, As if they were never your own. People shift, distorted, beyond the coffin of glass. Their movements hazy, The shutter speed slow. Colours muted, Sounds muffled, Melting into each other. An abstract watercolour, waxing and waning. Low resolution projections on a dimly lit screen - A theatre seating but one.

Depersonalisation/Derealisation
Stitched into this sac of skin at birth. That fused to your bones Fabricating a narcotic seamless facade We pluck at the seams, with crude claws. Laboring to unravel the lace seams In vain Whirling, flickering, suffocating nausea aimed at Misuse of our pronouns of Our echoing repulsive abnormal figure. Funding a doctor to shed our skin. Mutilating skin and bone to perfection. For self-acceptance.

It's Friday It's pay day It's time to go get me Another AR-15 So I can go shoot the breeze You can't tell me that it's wrong The 2nd amendment has been around way too long For you to croon your gun control song Don't matter what you've got to say When I've got the NRA on my side Supporting MY life But don't worry If anything, you should be proud Because the NRA says No Regulations Allowed! I don't get why you're so upset I studied gun safety once Eight years back So I got your girl Teresa's back No, like, I literally just shot her in the back There's blood everywhere! Don't scream, I'm telling you because I care Oh, don't look at me like t h a t Accidents happen all the time I'm perfectly capable of handling this gun You're just out to take me rights And steal my fun! Uhm, but forreal could you watch your tone? I know you care about Teresa But what about how I feel? My masculinity isn't set to "criticism permitted" mode It's on "gun control prohibited" mode Say anymore and I'll have to go I'm not gonna lie, the second amendment makes me come alive Even as other people continue to die I guess you could say I'm a real guy's guy Anyways, just because Teresa got hurt That doesn't mean that gun control would work Why don't you just consult the CDC You'll see, they'll side with me And, no, it's not a funding thing It's a freedom thing If anything, you should be proud Don't be shy, come along now Support the NRA No Regulations Allowed!

N.R.A. - No Regulations Allowed
(think Mexican Hat Dance:) How tall? How tall? How tall? Will Donald Trump build the wall? The wall! The wall! The wall! Will Mexico pay for it at all? How high? How high? How high? How high will they have to jump To clear the wall and prove to us all That they’ve pacified Donald Trump (bump, bump) To clear the wall and prove to us all That they’ve pacified Donald Trump? When you’re talking about immigration, Whether merit based or chain migration, According to Trump proclamation, “Illegals, jump over the wall”!! (NOT AT ALL!!) How tall? How tall? How tall? Can Donald Trump build the wall When not a single Democrat Is willing to fund it at all? How long? How long? How long? How long do we have to wait To end this shutdown? When they sit their butts down To end this gridlock stalemate!! Consider the workers who are not getting paid; That is the part we most hate!! To achieve our homeland protection, Not just winning the 2020 election, The Pelosi and Schumer connection Should grant funding to give Trump OUR wall!! Give Pelosi and Schumer A kick in the bloomers If they continue to stall!! Written 1/15/19 by Marcus Well (day 25 of the US Government Partial Shutdown) (Who the hell is Marcus Well? Those that know, please don’t tell)

HOW TALL? HOW TALL, THE WALL?
My palms are growing wet Sweat has covered my trigger Night and day in enemies nest Operating like battalions of mere singers. I fight 21st century with 20th century bullet Blood on my face, wounds yielding deeper In shattered body my brethren in uniform rest Unjust funding makes our defence wall weaker. Father, I am in a wilderness fighting a shapeless war No back ups, no one is watching out for our fall Like we are dying for those who don't care about us Our enemies are in golden armor while we ride on horse. Mother, did the demise of my gun brothers makes the headlines? I heard the 'next level' was lunched on that day And my superiors disown us to dine at the front line Well, don't cry yet, I'm still alive at least for today.   Oh, my palms are wet and my hopes like a thread My eyes shed more tears than the blood my gun sheds We are too weak to keep pulling these triggers Aso Rock, upgrade us now or take us home to our fathers.

Lies Lies, Fabrications
Quietly... a new future races past my attention. As thin as, a liberals funding chased by an old and toothless past. Slipping changes by... in bite sized pieces now so regularly that some pass ... barely tasted.... almost inhaled. Tides of modern history are beating rhythmically on ugly worn out barriers affecting all, both near and far As bright and untouchable as the new moon. The looming certainty of... what now seems inevitable. Lingers... not quite accepting it's progression and now is both... dragging it's feet... and clumsily rushing over what's left of ancient weights... that lay so heavy... so long....' Equality and Justice are hummed to and called forth... to not simply usher in a few changes... but navigate the floodgates of what our world now dare to dream of... The last of the Boomer's are having their say and the idealistic. psychedelic, poets and builders dream through a "stoney" mist and contemplate next season's crops and the affect they may have on moral turpitude. Finally.

Next Season's Crops
I Think I'd Make A Good Principal is just one of the stories within these pages, but you'll also find a recess superhero, some suggestions on where to time travel, a tiny guy that can't sleep, a fussy grandpa that lives upstairs, a zombie mouse, and several other funny and imaginative poems sure to delight both kids and adults. (Complete with wonderful illustrations by artist David Lee) It's something that wouldn't be typical, But I think I'd make a good principal. The first thing I'd cut would be funding for math, Maybe not fully, but at least in half. Next on the list would be killing off science Proudly shaking my fist in defiance. Social studies is sure to get axed, And geography class prob'ly won't

Your generation is defined by definitions. 'This generation', this new-fangled bunch of hooligans Cut out and put in the oven, Lives pre-formed, based on premonitions, Put into the system and cranked out Made up of numbers and tests that really define who you are. 'This generation' that you have given a set of rules A set of molds to fit into To pour their lives out and 'better the world' Shaped with your all-knowing tools Scissors that cut funding to the parts that maybe, Perhaps, might make them an individual. Because here, no, here we don't have room for individuality But we sure have room for this assembly Your freedom of religion, speech, and freedom to assemble No room for that, for fear of immorality We don't have time for originals, we don't have time for strays I'm sorry that you've got ideas, Generation Y But this is the generation of time constraints. We've got technology to innovate, an ozone to fit Communities to build and lives put at risk But that's not as important as what's in the now No, not as important as these tucks and nips We've got to put you under the needle Even after we swore, 'first do no harm', But this isn't going to hurt, I swear Well, maybe not on the outside. Look here, Y, you'd be better off compliant To fix our computers and drive our trucks To turn off your TVs and just trust us To read the chapter and finish the assignment Because to us, you all learn the same, To us you are still just a number Even if you think you're out when you graduate. So what, you graduated the system, And it's done it's work on you Have your daddy pick the college and your mama pick the sheets Pack your bags, you're ready for the big world And that's exactly what we made you think. Generation Y, you are fitting into the molds we gave you We tried to crank you out in groups of 300 And we did You were never allowed to be original And you weren't. Generation Y, this cookie-cutter, uniform 'Glued to technology', uninterested Group of 'stupid' teenagers You were forced to unify And forced into corrals, thereby, Forced into lives we've blessed you with. I swear, by my very intelligence That we're good by you, good by the world In evaluating what we need Where we need people Hopefully creating a society less-gnarled Generation Y, you may hate the population But you are the population And you are what we told you to be. Your lives were pre-formed from day one, So, please, Sit down, shut up, finish your definitions, And stop asking why.

Y: An Argument
Your generation is defined by definitions. 'This generation', this new-fangled bunch of hooligans Cut out and put in the oven, Lives pre-formed, based on premonitions, Put into the system and cranked out Made up of numbers and tests that really define who you are. declaring independence
Outraged by indifference, On the streets, neighbors once friendly Now stand in opposing lines. Propaganda posters cover the walls, Spreading fear and dividing minds. Ukraine or Russia, Isreal or Palestine. Capitalism or communism the greediness and division funding all wars In countries once united and with the hope of, now torn apart. Hopes and dreams dashed, shattered like glass. The future once bright, now a dark unknown. How can we navigate our way into a peaceful world Blue and yellow flags, now stained with blood. A nation once united, now torn asunder. The echoes of shelling, ringing in their ears. The land of golden wheat, now a barren wasteland. So the streets are filled with chaos and fear, And the violence rages on without cease. Bombs and bullets tear through the night, and civilians cower in their homes, bereft of peace. The loss of life and suffering is great, And the scars of war run deep and true. The conflict rages on without end, And hope seems hard to hold onto. A home, once a dream of safety. Now a battlefield, a place of terror. The faces of loved ones, now distant memories. hearts, once full of hope. Now shattered and broken. Amidst the chaos and despair, we search for a light. The occurring wars, the reasons to unite, for a glimmer of hope is a reason to go on. So they cling onto the small moments of joy, like the laughter of a child, or a flower in bloom. In the darkest of times, they try to find strength in the small things. Though the scars of war may run deep, the world can still heal. We can still choose love, choose forgiveness. We can choose to build a better tomorrow, Where peace reigns and hope abounds. May we never forget the lessons of war, and may we always strive for a brighter future. May we learn to forgive those who have wronged us, and work to heal the divisions in our society. May we reach out to those in need, and work to create a more just and equitable world. May we never lose sight of the beauty of life, as we hold fast to the belief that a better tomorrow is for us
