"france" poems
I see you drinking at a fountain with tiny blue hands, no, your hands are not tiny they are small, and the fountain is in France where you wrote me that last letter and I answered and never heard from you again. you used to write insane poems about ANGELS AND GOD, all in upper case, and you knew famous artists and most of them were your lovers, and I wrote back, it' all right, go ahead, enter their lives, I' not jealous because we' never met. we got close once in New Orleans, one half block, but never met, never touched. so you went with the famous and wrote about the famous, and, of course, what you found out is that the famous are worried about their fame -- not the beautiful young girl in bed with them, who gives them that, and then awakens in the morning to write upper case poems about ANGELS AND GOD. we know God is dead, they' told us, but listening to you I wasn' sure. maybe it was the upper case. you were one of the best female poets and I told the publishers, editors, " her, print her, she' mad but she' magic. there' no lie in her fire." I loved you like a man loves a woman he never touches, only writes to, keeps little photographs of. I would have loved you more if I had sat in a small room rolling a cigarette and listened to you **** in the bathroom, but that didn' happen. your letters got sadder. your lovers betrayed you. kid, I wrote back, all lovers betray. it didn' help. you said you had a crying bench and it was by a bridge and the bridge was over a river and you sat on the crying bench every night and wept for the lovers who had hurt and forgotten you. I wrote back but never heard again. a friend wrote me of your suicide 3 or 4 months after it happened. if I had met you I would probably have been unfair to you or you to me. it was best like this.

There's a yellow green gas, You can't see in your glass. Sometimes you can tell, It's there by the smell. It does a great job removing bacteria, Like Diphtheria, Or even Listeria. But what do you think, Happens to the chlorine in your drink? I don't want to alarm, But there's a chance it might harm. It protects at a price, Attacking our bacteria that are nice, And I'm sure it excels, At killing your own cells, Forcing new ones to grow, When a mistake could cause woe. Some studies have found it an enhancer, Of bladder and bowel cancer. Whether old or young, Do you want it in your lung? You have the power, To remove it from your shower. It's rather grim, To have to breathe it when you swim. You're more likely to wheeze, Or sneeze. Do you think it will please, Your inflammatory bowel disease? Perhaps it's the key, To why there's Crohns and UC. Do you think that your skin, Might become a little thin, And be filled with dread, As it starts to turn red. Can you not feel, How it's harder to heal? It makes our tissues grow old, From what I've been told. Our cells can only divide, A few times before they're stupified. With asthma and chlorine on a map, You can see they overlap. Sadly in the West, Not everyone has guessed, That there may be a link, With the gas in our drink. “But!”, I hear you cry, “Without it people will die.” Let go of your dread, We can use something instead. The answer is well known, It's called 'ozone'. Made from pure water, It's gone when it reaches my daughter, Unlike chlorine it's life is brief, What a relief. There's many a city, That make it with electricity, Splitting water into hydrogen, And best of all, oxygen! For ozone is made from O2, Yes, it's true! Imagine if you had, Water with nothing they add. Already there's Paris and Nice in France, Where people can dance. San Diego and Los Angeles in the USA, Have water that's ok. And Osaka in Japan, Now use this plan. But you don't have to be rich, To make the switch. Ask a clever committee, To stop chlorine in your city. See if you can arrange, To have your water change. I hear you shout, “Can 'I' get this chlorine out?” If you leave water in a jug overnight, What's left will be slight. Boiling will send it away in the air, So there's no need to despair. You can also remove it with a filter, Or a water distiller. To learn more have a look, At 'Question Chlorine' on facebook.

There's a Russian fairytale of snowdrops in January a girl meeting the twelve seasons in human form who lead her in the middle of winter to where snowdrops grow I never thought once that I'd live in a land where snowdrops grow in February rather than in April & where the snowy winter has become a memory & where in my childhood we weren't able to buy sauerkraut & pickled gherkins done the way we liked yet which now has become more international & where people smile & say ' sorry' to you politely if you tread on their feet as if their feet were the problem & where time is measured by the Big Ben & Greenwich instead of by the Kremlin & it always rains in summer but there are rarely any thunderstorms & people holiday in places like Majorca & Benidorm if they're working class & France, if they're middle class & where I went to a public ( private) girls' school & wore a red uniform & sang the hymn ' Jerusalem' believing in this green & pleasant land with all my heart until I left & came back again, this time, an adult, a European living through the British recession & shocked at the newly hostile attitude to migrants yet even now when I see those snowdrops in February my heart soars & I'm back living a fairytale a child in wonder just as before

Snowdrops
Branch out leafs stuck in tables The call of the wild Inner child alive Bust lose wild horses hate their stables Some birds don't fly? Chicken with head cut off can dance Do all 16 dances Can't fly to France Or live in a tree full of owls Crows nest Birds and the bees Eat from flowers Just like all the rest Reincarnation, a dead man takes a vacation When I die I want to return as a wise owl Live with a girl owl In a tree full of owls... Must go. Cannot explain. The sadness is on the table. I left you as much as half of everything I own. Maybe more. Spend it how you like. I know you will anyway. This is no joke. The marriage painting is fixed. The key is under your lover's pillow. Tell the cat Vive La France for me.

Bonjour, hello to this French revolution, where people fought against the corrupted monarchy and created a new constitution. Hunger, no rights and no respect, they could not seem to solve it peacefully, so they cut off Louis the XVI neck. Marie Antoinette was a heartless greedy ***** she stole the people's food, so now she deserves some punishment, this is a historical moment for these people which they would soon cement. They started the Reign of Terror, which some may say was a costly and unnecessary error. Millions of people were killed and most were wrongly accused, their used to be equality, liberty, and fraternity, but all people saw was death, which is something not to be amused. The French Revolution where the third class fought the monarchy, so everyone could have true equality, liberty, and fraternity. Then came a guy named Napoléon who changed their wicked ways, he founded new ideas which created the future you see today. I know he wasn't exactly the best, he crowned himself the emperor, which no one had a say on, he pretended to respect the church and have meritocracy but really he was just a con, deceiving people as if they were just a couple of pawns. Napoléon is a wimp, he cost millions of lives, he also abandoned his armies multiple times, he may be one of the, greatest strategist's in the world, but really he's just a waste of time. Napoléon should have figured out not to attack Russia at winter time, it never worked out before so why would it work this time. He may be a symbol of France and the greatest self proclaimed emperor, but he died because of his pride just like Maximillian Robespierre. That was the end of the French Revolution, they slowly lost their power but they still hold onto their republican constitution. So aurevoir for now, bon voyage to you grande revolution, till your next controversial decisions and solutions.

Somebody is shooting at something in our town -- A dull pom, pom in the Sunday street. Jealousy can open the blood, It can make black roses. Who are the shooting at? It is you the knives are out for At Waterloo, Waterloo, Napoleon, The **** of Elba on your short back, And the snow, marshaling its brilliant cutlery Mass after mass, saying Shh! Shh! These are chess people you play with, Still figures of ivory. The mud squirms with throats, Stepping stones for French bootsoles. The gilt and pink domes of Russia melt and float off In the furnace of greed. Clouds, clouds. So the swarm ***** and deserts Seventy feet up, in a black pine tree. It must be shot down. Pom! Pom! So dumb it thinks bullets are thunder. It thinks they are the voice of God Condoning the beak, the claw, the grin of the dog Yellow-haunched, a pack-dog, Grinning over its bone of ivory Like the pack, the pack, like everybody. The bees have got so far. Seventy feet high! Russia, Poland and Germany! The mild hills, the same old magenta Fields shrunk to a penny Spun into a river, the river crossed. The bees argue, in their black ball, A flying hedgehog, all prickles. The man with gray hands stands under the honeycomb Of their dream, the hived station Where trains, faithful to their steel arcs, Leave and arrive, and there is no end to the country. Pom! Pom! They fall Dismembered, to a tod of ivy. So much for the charioteers, the outriders, the Grand Army! A red tatter, Napoleon! The last badge of victory. The swarm is knocked into a cocked straw hat. Elba, Elba, bleb on the sea! The white busts of marshals, admirals, generals Worming themselves into niches. How instructive this is! The dumb, banded bodies Walking the plank draped with Mother France's upholstery Into a new mausoleum, An ivory palace, a crotch pine. The man with gray hands smiles -- The smile of a man of business, intensely practical. They are not hands at all But asbestos receptacles. Pom! Pom! 'They would have killed me.' Stings big as drawing pins! It seems bees have a notion of honor, A black intractable mind. Napoleon is pleased, he is pleased with everything. O Europe! O ton of honey!

Sonnet on a letter to France
If you're OCD, You're going to hate this poem. Because it's not what you're used to and it can be infuriating I know where i'm going and i'm laughing in enjoyment. I wish i could take some comedians out of sheer unemployment And take damaged soldiers out of deployment But you know that drill already We're just trying to keep the Earth's rotation steady But i'm up for going steady If that's what you want We're all about want I'm all about yours Trying to coordinate each constellation Is like arguing with a woman You won't get the result you were looking for It's beautiful in the tension And it has it's suspension But it's infinite Meaning it will go on forever So just try not to. I never liked arguing I know i won't later on Your passion and support is all i need That's what i look for the most Someone who doesn't see me as some sort of ghost Or lifeless party host But someone that means the air they breathe I get tired of my mistakes But to know someone will try to help me prevent them Is what i like There has been a couple of people who tried But i pushed them off the deep end And i'm terribly sorry for that Zero fault on you and all for me I say that with a smile Because it feels good to be honest with myself You think it would be a brain-dead thing to master But it only seems that way I know from experience Trust me, I've been there. My trails go in multiple angles Just like my nature But if you're crazy enough to stick around You'll get a warm welcome You'll know how to feel special If you never have before, i'll be the first to show you I mean every word With full fledged honesty I wouldn't say useless, empty words That's inept and not worth it. If you're confident in yourself Girl, you should work it I heavily value strong traits such as that You're going to turn all my bumps in my chest flat And make me enamored just like that The flick of the switch No more wishing i would with other male persons. To get a chance That's why most men do a celebration dance Consistently catching me in a trance I got more lovely words than France Okay, maybe not But the ambition doesn't vanish I'll still try To keep you mine Time is precious So are you If Time was a woman she would be in disgust That it's not her in your shoes You brought your sparkly ones? Just making all the check marks, are you? Champions aren't limited to sports I can assure you.

I'm an athlete. I can throw and catch, and run in the sun- all shiny and bright. And you just sleep, sleep, sleep. Look at me, mama. I'm a writer. I do poetry and stories, all pretty and pink, and all you do is, sleep, sleep, sleep. Look at me, mama. I can dance. I'm lonely, I'll move to France, meet a woman, and get married. Look at the ants crawl through the spilled red juice on the grass, nature everywhere, as you sleep, sleep, sleep.  Look mama, Look at me, mama! I have children now, all good and wise, you're a grandma. Why don't you wake up? Please look at me, mama. Open your eyes. I'm lonely and afraid. I'm old now, and cold, and you still, just sleep, sleep, sleep...

The star-filled seas are smooth tonight From France to England strown; Black towers above Portland light The felon-quarried stone. On yonder island; not to rise, Never to stir forth free, Far from his folk a dead lad lies That once was friends with me. Lie you easy, dream you light, And sleep you fast for aye; And luckier may you find the night Than you ever found the day.

Revolution: Part one. The first French King sentenced to death, Must have a new execution invented; So that this day shall be forever remembered. The execution of your King, this invention of evil; This is how he will finally meet his end and go to the Devil. The man behind the mask, the executioner; Will lead us to change to a new world order. A declaration of civil war, to stop the oppression, Has lead France to say, we must fight to stop the aggression. We must be revolting and begin the revolution; To put an end to the executions. The fall of the guillotine, for a life time spent, Writing the encyclopedia, which lead to his death. There is no place for God, in an encyclopedia of Man; This writing is illegal, you are blasphemous! God **** So the time has come, to take your last breath. Remember when you see the guillotine... don't lose your head. Until it's chopped off and ends up in the basket; Another case of basket case madness. No fiction necessary, for us to live here on Earth; But this execution, you surely don't deserve. So the poets leave France, before the revolution; All of them heading, back to England. These prison bars to entrap the young. Taken prisoner for writing a book. Follow their rules; free thinking is wrong. The encyclopedia is evidence enough. Man is born free and grows to imprison himself; Then he must follow the orders, of somebody else. Frances revolutionaries, said let it be, let it be; But the nation is ruled, by the monarchy. Imprisoned for what they think, the poets and the artists; But there are no walls, in the prison inside their heads. Begin the revolution and make us all classless, Because they’re chained by society, For the thoughts that they think. A fight for equality, a modern day philosophy. Man is born to think for himself; a revolution is on the way. Liberty! Liberation for one free state; A jaded nation must make a change. Revolution began, after the fall of the blade; Now the guillotine of power will stop us being slaves. Preaching revolution, we must free ourselves of these manacles. Preaching liberation for the masses And freedom for the individual. This new guillotine, the machine of death, Makes the severed head fall into the basket, As they take your last breath; But they can't take your words, from the books you have written. So fight the power! Revolution! Revolution! We must have a revolution, that is televised. Che Guevara, Malcolm X, me, myself and I. All of us willing to join the fight; All of knowing our view is right. (C)2013 Aa Harvey. All Rights Reserved.

No. It's an impudent falsehood. Men did not Invariably think the newer way Prosaic mad, inelegant, or what not. Was the first pointed arch esteemed a blot Upon the church? Did anybody say How modern and how ugly? They did not. Plate-armour, or windows glazed, or verse fire-hot With rhymes from France, or spices from Cathay, Were these at first a horror? They were not. If, then, our present arts, laws, houses, food All set us hankering after yesterday, Need this be only an archaising mood? Why, any man whose purse has been let blood By sharpers, when he finds all drained away Must compare how he stands with how he stood. If a quack doctor's breezy ineptitude Has cost me a leg, must I forget straightway All that I can't do now, all that I could? So, when our guides unanimously decry The backward glance, I think we can guess why.

On a ****** Error
What happened on Weehawken Heights, that warm midsummer’s day? There are several versions of the “truth” but none for sure can say. The Principals were both well known: Hamilton and Burr. Aaron Burr had made the challenge, Hamilton would not demur. Hamilton choose pistols as the weapons Then Burr proposed the site. Per the Irish Code Duello It was all proper and right. Dueling was illegal, so the Seconds looked away so they could plausibly deny that they had seen the fray. Each man walked off ten paces, and Mister Pendleton yelled “Pre-sent”! Most think that Hamilton fired first; wide and right, his shot was spent. Aaron Burr was deadly accurate: His shot, its target found: Alexander Hamilton, wounded, swooned upon the ground. “this wound is mortal, Doctor.” was all Hamilton could say. They bore him to the City where he passed on the following day. Aaron Burr also fled the scene, evading prosecution. He had “Full Satisfaction”, this hero of the Revolution. What is full satisfaction when Burr’s Star was past its season? He never more held public trust, indeed, stood trial for treason. A person can be haunted by a ghost that none can see. Burr’s brilliance had been blighted by a sort of infamy. Towards the end of his own life Burr said of his enemy: “{Had I known}The world was wide enough for Hamilton and me.” On July 11, 1804, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr fought the most famous duel in American history. These two heroes of the Revolution were political enemies and Hamilton had done much to exclude Burr from the Presidency and from the  New York  governorship.  Burr, feeling he had been defamed by Hamilton's published remarks demanded the "Full Satisfaction" of a duel.  My account generally follows the account of the historian, Joesph Ellis. Any errors are my fault. Any items in quotes are words ascribed to these two famous individuals.  Aaron Burr never after held public office and eventually stood trial for treason for his alleged attempt to set up an independent country in the territory Jefferson purchased from France. After several years living in France, Burr returned to New york where he faded into obscurity. Alexander Hamilton is buried in the churchyard of Trinity Church in downtown New york. Towards the end of his life, Burr remarked: "Had I read Sterne more and Voltaire less, I should have known the world was wide enough for Hamilton and me."[35]

Stalingrad- Germany wanted control, But they weren't going to get it. Silly men, Unaware that they would freeze to the bone In those harsh Russian mountains. Is oil worth it? Torch- the British thought it was a simple plan. It was, but barely. The soft underbelly, The Mediterranean to France, through Italy? Kick the Axis out of North Africa? Piece of cake. D-Day- a finale? Maybe. The ships and planes at the ready, A possible surprise. Parachutes And men on foot storming the beaches of Normandy. Shots fired, push east where they belong. Coming from the North and South. Cinch like a corset Strings are drawn against the axis. Good luck holding up your empire in this day and age.

After reading about some tribal warfare in a far away land, I wrote this true story down. Now re-published every year on this day. Seems more appropriate than ever one July 4th, many years ago walking the streets, of the city of Nice, situe on the Cote D'azur of France, on the Mediterranean Sea, where ships of navies may safely park their sailors, sending them ashore for R&R,^ they, leavened to disembark^^ how I came to be there is a poem for another time walking the streets, palm tree resort, along La Promenade Des Anglais, coming at me, Three Sailors, unmistakably American one white, one black, one brown from California, which I believe, is still part of the USA how we fell upon each other in warm embrace, smiling, bestowing blessings of grace not as strangers, but as fellow signatories on the Declaration of Independence brothers, long lost, reunited, as if it had been many years, since we last had our arms entwined, one family from one far away united place dialectical differences ignored, even the wide-eyed 'Bama boy, totally comprehensible, for on that say, we spoke a language that encompassed a single brotherhood, a common histoire, all on that holy day no tribes in America, no colors, no religions, only sisters and brothers-in-arms I need not choose to believe, for it is certainty guaranteed, that should it happen again twenty years hence, perhaps with their great grandsons, my embrace will, exactly the same be, for I know it true, there are no tribes in an* American heart
