The old man said:
The key to contentment is to find yourself
deep within yourself until you can learn to drown out the voices of the world.
For so long, I was confused about what he was trying to say. Now I think I understand. It's all about believing in our own capability to handle life as it comes. Other people's validation may seem nice and sometimes it is but it is never to be our main source of motivation or strength. What other people think about us does not determine our ability to be sufficient. We have to understand who we are and be comfortable with ourselves; our hopes, dreams, strengths, and failures too. Because when we understand all of the beautiful, ****, dark, and beautifully dark parts that live within us and learn to accept them, we can lovingly work to better ourselves. I read a quote today, "Wherever we're trying to go, we do not bully ourselves there. We believe ourselves there."-Leeana T. When we love our own self enough to stop listening to the chatters of world, we can finally let go of our self-loathing and take a step forward to being content.

I'm sorry
I failed
I slipped
I broke down
I caved in
I gave up

I'm sorry
I relapsed

I knew it
was doomed to fail
from the start
by the way she
smiled and
cried
when she thought I
wasn't looking
Through the years I have learned;
Life is one tough pill to swallow

I’ve learned to triumph and to give up
I’ve learned I can do anything with a full coffee cup,
I’ve learned there’s some things in life you just can’t have
And I’ve learned having them doesn’t always make you happy,
I’ve learned when you love someone they don’t always love you back
And nothing hurts more than a broken heart,
I’ve learned that friends can be the most important things in life
But getting on their bad side can be like standing under a knife,
I’ve learned when you throw a cookie in the sky god doesn’t take it
But as long as it’s not wax he appreciates the thought,
I’ve learned not to take people you care about for granted
They may be here today but you never know what tomorrow brings,
I’ve learned that crying about the past can’t change a thing
And worrying about the future will make the present even worse,
I’ve learned to fight for what you want in life
But before you start make sure you know what you are fighting for,

I’ve learned that people can steal your stuff
But they can’t steal your dreams,
I’ve learned that even the meanest person you know still has a heart
And that no one is too mean to cry,
I’ve learned that people change and grow apart
But it’s those people you should keep in your heart,
I’ve learned that people can be smiling on the outside
But crying an ocean on the inside,
I’ve learned that being too young is not such a bad thing
But being too old isn’t good either,
I’ve learned winning isn’t all it’s cracked up to be
But failing can burn like fire,
Over the years I’ve learned;
To laugh
To love
To sing
To smile
To dance
To win
~~~
To lose
To fail
To pain
To hate
To cry
To wallow
I’ve learned that life is one tough pill to swallow
Sometimes words fail
To Express the full rhapsody of living
The feeling of a boat setting sail
Or simply the sensation of breathing
The overwhelming grief of loss
And all encompassing joy of love
the smell of rain soaked moss
Or the first flap of a baby dove
Each sunny day
And tear soaked night
The kind words others say
And the harsh ones that bite
Sometimes the most beautiful thing
Is the feeling that the words cannot bring
You're nervous
A bit of a wreck
But you never fail to smile at yourself when you mess up
As you always do
You're damaged
That much is clear
But your smooth laugh puts the whole room at ease
No matter how scarcely it surfaces
You've been hurt by everyone
Yourself included
But you'd rather die
Than put someone down
Because you truly believe every achievement is worth all the stars in the sky
You're quiet
Sometimes it's a little annoying
But who can blame you
You mean no harm
You're self conscious
I mean arent we all
But you put everyone else back together so they cant resist to love themselves a little more
No matter how much
You
This stupid
Stupid
Boy
Hate yourself
If you see me in the street, just smile,
Then walk away.
You’ll wonder why I fail to speak,
The reason, I don’t care!
You see, when you, were in my life,
I offered part of me
But you had narcissistic traits
So now, you cease to be!
Rx
Best way to **** a Narcissist is to withdraw attention!
It was a bright spring day out by the pool
We’d gathered together amidst lawn chairs
To watch
A somewhat portly
Man centered in the water
Swirling like Esther
Incanting
We sipped our ****** wine and smiled cautiously but amused no less.
From the far northern edges came a little
Light haired boy dressed like an angel
Or perhaps the son
Of Poseidon
I think the whole point of this had something to do with Poseidon
Or some other god of the sea
That remained unclear for
Me at least
Needless to say, this was a pool
A little pool with green astroturf surrounding
Piquant with chlorine
Not churning and grey.
Again, to the north stood the child
His son no doubt
Who must have been told simply and repeatedly
Just go to Daddy in the pool
Stand by the side
And he will pick you up
Hold onto your trident
Ok!?
But upon making his move to
Daddy
the child
Misstepped
Stumbled
Fell
And in so doing began to wail
Leaving his otherwise stoic father
Perplexed and annoyed
Astonished
His eyes squinting out the sun
His performance ending before it ever began
Three women rushed to the little wails
The mother scooped her child into her arms
Cradling the tears to her *******
Her attendants ran for vanilla ice cream
The boy now sated
Was resplendent in calm satisfaction
Father left the pool
Make-up running down his wet face
The child ate his ice cream from the bowl
steadfast in his concentration
and seeming innocence
The mother held her little man
The man in charge
We stood up and left for more ****** wine
Perhaps the Pinot.
                                  But it is then
                      when our bodies collapse
                    and the crowd no longer claps
                     that the brevity of stars is felt
                 and the call of the siren is heard
              rising from the depths of our humanity
( it is only then we learn
that no being deserves disregard
nor should be made a deity
for failing is part of the duality
that comes with the mortal experience)
Lord, let them see me as a fool
If only You’ll undo me
Take pride and self and rights away
But beckon me come to Thee
If failing is what humbles me
If falling is what breaks me
Then let me fall and fail and faint
Just come, possess and take me
You are the One my soul desires
There is none other for me
So bring the storms, the trials, the woes
For in those best I know Thee
You see the pain my heart requires
To mold and make me like Thee
So send the fires which please You most
I will not fear what strikes me
I trust Your goodness and Your grace
They shall not ever fail me
You hide my life safe in Your grasp
Though hell’s worst fiends assail me
You’ve chosen me as Your own child
A treasure ‘cause You found me
You’ve named me Your beloved bride
With glory You’ll soon crown me!
I don’t think of you that often
The eyes and faces all turned themselves towards me
Love no one
However, we may suffer
It’s funny, if you do, you start missing everybody
And I’m afraid
My failures: I had not forgotten them
To have survived so long
It happened, I stopped loving him.
You unzipped your jacket and out fell a flower,
You tried to repair us in the very last hour,
You said you screamed my name in your head
When you were with her in the bed
I did too, when I was with him
But I didn't tell you, didn't had that whim.
Once, in a long while,
I go somewhere new in my mind,
shapes take form where voice can’t affect
and my words become hieroglyphs.
It’s when pictures seem more natural than inky squiggles.
because, what’s more natural than shape?
What’s more poetic than an image words don’t capture,
can’t capture, never will—capture?
Despite the decades,
I still have not heard the perfect words
to describe summer skies on clear nights,
God knows I’ve tried,
he’s heard me whispering,
chanting phrase after phrase upwards
as they crash against the stars,
floating, fixed in open defiance of my calls,
immune to my attempts to trap them on paper.
But you can only try to define the infinite in so many ways,
before losing yourself to what is, ultimately,
indescribable.
Chris Thomas Nov 2017
It may surprise you to learn
That I cannot return to my genesis
Quite simply, I have no fail safe
It may leave you wanting for a whisper
But, when I open these frail, chapped lips
I have no fail safe
It may be that I am a savior in disguise
Hidden behind briers in the garden
But still, I have no fail safe
It may trigger a memory from nothing
To feel my fingers graze across your cheek
Yet, I have no fail safe
It may be a splintered crutch
That I lean on as I take the last train home
But, I have no fail safe
It may be that your delicate kiss
Is a beautiful straight-jacket
But, I have no fail safe
It may be that your unforgiving eyes
Are a glorious pair of fetters
But, I have no fail safe
It may be that the combination
Is within a world I no longer exist
Because after all this time
I still have no fail safe
O Prize of heaven, Treasure of my heart
Let me suffer, if only I may seek Thee
Let me fail, if only I may find Thee
Let me give up all, if only I may gain Thee
For Thou and Thou alone art the Prize
"I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.  Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
Fighting on the front lines
With red pens
For creativity,
For independent thought,
For common sense
Not Common Core
This is a battle in a bureaucratic war we’re losing
Keep pushing and shoving against an impenetrable wall
But we’re only foot soldiers, not actually giving orders
Kids look down on us and they ask,
“Will this be on the test?”
And say,
“Get out of my face.”
Taught by parent(s) to resist.
These are Kids who fail to create
But recite, recall, and retaliate
“Mistake” has become a forbidden word.
School is no longer a safe haven
Testing, testing, 1-2-3 hundred murdered students, teachers
Hanging by a thread and losing the grip a little more every day
Following the curriculum map to X marks the standardized test.
We dig and
                  Dig and
                                 Dig
For the buried treasure trove of teaching magic. The legitimacy and respect our careers deserve. The money, the time, the love, the support.
But it’s buried under so much testing and red tape, and so
We fail.
what makes bubbles fail?
the men like to fell
and show themselves honor and they are dis illegal
i love you
said to her
she gives him hers
he vanishes
the women does
i love you
he believes
she steals and takes
what she demands
she vanishes
people say we are heroes
we will give hand to every weakness
when this asks
they polish it off
and they will be off
bubbles will be downed
downed and not be ever up
tear of orphan girl is downed
planting tree of sad over
up, up till the sky ceiling
it ascends water of answering over heads
making the justice occuring
if every one gives hand
the things will not be bad
and the weather will not be sad
the justice will be the first of the life
