"exhibition" poems
In order to expose my heart and truly write, I must release my status or my pride, this is not about me, it was never meant to be a way to gain recognition, another way for me to perform on a stage, some sort of exhibition. Yet I find myself hesitating to write my thoughts, trying to impress people I don't even know, It was only meant to be an outlet a therapy for me, never some sort of show, but like everything I have ever done somehow Id rather waste my time trying to impress. My guilty conscience driving me to be truly under duress. Forced to hold back the leanings of my heart I merely release a fluffy worthless shallow piece. I will not be stifled, held down by my need to please, my ribs will not rupture under this pressure as I try to breathe. I must write with heart and soul or not at all. So this is my open message to you pride, no matter how many times I fool myself into putting on your mask, I promise, your control over me will not last. I will take you off just as quickly as I put you on because I want someone who reads these to truly see me. To see me with all of my scars misfortunes and faith, I will put my heart out, I will never aspire to be fake.

Pride
Here is the girl's head like an exhumed gourd. Oval-faced, prune-skinned, prune-stones for teeth. They unswaddled the wet fern of her hair And made an exhibition of its coil, Let the air at her leathery beauty. Pash of tallow, perishable treasure: Her broken nose is dark as a turf clod, Her eyeholes blank as pools in the old workings. Diodorus Siculus confessed His gradual ease with the likes of this: Murdered, forgotten, nameless, terrible Beheaded girl, outstaring axe And beatification, outstaring What had begun to feel like reverence.

Love letter To an Anorexic: sadomasochistic poetry
New words in old styles Tracked on a canvas of brick By a precocious kid Sneaking on the lines; The little ***** My morning art show Laid out in illiterate words, Scribbled by artists Who failed art at school, Then shat on by birds. An exhibition of names Written worryingly wrong, Evident to the system That failed before they Even joined the throng. We pause at one piece Daubed in indelible paint, White streaked on black, A chaotic sprawl of letters, **** al saintz". I've been there before; A nice school I thought, Catholic of course; I doubt the child gave The saints a spare thought. And what about Al? Does he care at all? Does he pause here, On his way to work, And dream their downfall. It drives me up the wall To see tracks filled with art, But are they to blame? We let them loose And they play their part.

Delayed response to ground control, oh how I was crying. In retrospect, I was just shallow; like an astronaut only watching himself as the rest of the world kept steadily spinning. Impersonal up here, never caring about winning or losing. The star charts that mentors showed lost to what my mind followed, A winding path through this sacred space which I unhallowed. I didn't flinch at blastoff; it wasn't bravery, it was me being a coward. Sweating in a far away bed, steel round walls with no decoration, Straining my mind fighting the moments of suffocation. Spots in my vision, distortion and discoloration. Seeing stars I glimpsed my comet on exhibition. I would have to come back around. It was just a matter of my rotation. Retrospect from ages back and to beyond where we will have gone. Black holes made that can never be filled, endless they came, endless they will come. To touch down in glory, or stay on the run. Life is just a rocket that departs from the sun. The rest isn't lost, it just hasn't been done. So as we eventually drift into deep space and age becomes our dawn, remember to look out the window and wave to the passerby's. They will cheer you on.

Rockets, Comets, And The Stars Between Them All
there is no value in a poem that reads ____________________ ____________________ ____________________ M M l i f e s u c k s x x x n o p o e m i g o t just nerve; crap bs, a denial of craft seek the intelligent intelligible, kiss the sensational thrill that emotion harvests with resonating tenses that beg our brains to differ, sense this claims, there is no value in no words is a hoax cloaked as art by the weak, make thy metaphors metastasize, my every cell, a preposition, preposterous and precious and comforting in their privations and provocations speak to us in alpha and line our eyes wide, with pictures at an exhibition of a faun immobile and beauteous let me hang on every word of yours and let it be the raft that sees me happily unsafe home take your bs line poem   shove it down your silent voice this is not avant garde; this is insulting p.s.  write me a smile and all will be_______________.

relax, this is the future; this subtle bludgeon, this assault in tenderness where we choose our own execution relax, this is absolution; this aloof intimacy, this touching by proxy where we cleanse our original sin relax, this is heaven; this calm tempest, this dancing static where we live through television relax, this is experience; this blind vision, this attraction by opposites where we dissolve ourselves in another relax, this is understanding; this shy exhibition, this knowledge through innocence where we swallow defeat where i am a warrior, and you are a priest

Then the arch painter, up in the blue yonder, stirs the sea of colours, and posing in style, infuses the magic with tangerine daylight. Then I don't know if you were walking by a brook or a river, you would tune in, perhaps like the sweet singer, Hebrew King David, the water nymph hums a melody. Then the narrative resonates, it never just goes away like the wind. Birds chirp and sing in the groves and on every street. Then I was watching the BBC on a black and white screen, the beloved monarch had passed away, and Britain was mourning. Then she appeared once in a stolen exhibition by my poetry in motion and jolly happy she was admiring now she's gone I just dreamed. Then amidst the melancholy, I heard twittering birds chirping, missing the mellifluous melodies, so awesomely sweet, alas, Queen Elizabeth wasn't there to speak her English!

THE SAXOPHONE STORY BY RAJ NANDY The Saxophone is perhaps the most expressive instrument next to the human voice. Was made by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian, through a deliberate choice! He wanted to offset the tonal disparity, - Between the string, wind, and brass instruments, with musical clarity ! He felt that the strings ones were overpowered by the wind instruments. While the wind instruments got overblown by the brass ones instead ! Now what would happen if the best qualities of these three instruments types, Could in a fusion blend and coalesces into a single instrument type ? So finally at the age of 20 years, in March Eighteen Hundred and Thirty Four, Adolphe Sax created a magical instrument for the World to hear and adore! It had the power of the brass, the flexibility of the strings, and the woodwind’s variety and tone; Which got christened after Adolphe Sax as the SAXOPHONE ! Adolphe’s famous composer friend Hector Berlioz in Paris City, Gave this new instrument wide publicity! In 1844 the Sax was presented in the Industrial Exhibition at Paris; And subsequently got patented on 20 March 1846. It soon got adopted by the Bands of the French Army. Making other instrument makers to become green with envy! The Sax was 80 years old when it became part of the musical instruments of the Jazz Band. A small bore mouth piece was created to suite the varying tonal qualities required by Jazz. Initially, 14 different sizes of Sax was created by Adolphe. Today only five types are in use for us to hear and see; The Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass and the Baritone Saxophone. They now form a part of our Jazz music's backbone! - By Raj Nandy FOOT NOTES : Adolphe Sax (1814-1894) , son of famous musical instrument maker Charles Joseph Sax of Belgium. Woodwind Instruments = Flute, Clarinet, Bassoon etc. Brass Instruments = Trumpet, Tuba, Cornet etc. String Instruments = Violin, Guitar, Harp, Banjo etc. The Saxophone today has become the very backbone of Jazz Music! ** ALL COPY RIGHTS ARE RESERVED BY: - RAJ NANDY **

Dar Al-Hekma University hosted its second fashion show on Sunday that featured the work of its second batch of fashion design undergraduates. The event, titled “Luminosity” was held under the auspices of Princess Reem **** Muhammad Al-Faisal. President of the university Dr. Suhair Hassan Al-Qurashi said: “Providing such events to our students before graduation exposes them to industry leaders of their prospective industries and gives them a head start in their careers. “Dar Al-Hekma University’s students stand out because of the combination of their high caliber and the opportunities the university provides for them.” Along with industry leaders, families of participating students attended. The event started with an opening speech by the department chair for the fashion design program Dina Kattan, who then introduced the sophomore and junior students’ work. Afterward, models wearing three-piece collection garments designed by senior students scheduled to graduate this year took the stage and were graded by four judges. Kattan said: “I am so proud of the work my students presented today; they worked really hard and they deserve a big hand. “Everyone was impressed with the level of creativity and attention to detail they demonstrated.” The judges were Batool Jamjoom, businesswoman in the fashion industry and manager and owner of Jamjoom Fashion House; Amra Alabdalilsharif, director of the innovation and visual merchandising department at Rubaiyyat; Dalal Al-Hasan, a fashion designer; and Aram Kabbani, Dar Al-Hekma alumna and fashion stylist. The grades students received during the fashion show will form part of their final grade. One of the students whose designs were featured at the show, Zahar Algain, said her collection was inspired by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. “Studying fashion has altered my perspective. I view fashion, in the same way that I view life; it’s a matter of balance and proportions. “My interest in avant-garde fashion has led me to believe in using creativity to solve difficult situations. Algain’s collection was meant to blur the line between art and fashion. “It is inspired by Frida Kahlo but with a fictional twist. “The story behind my collection is a daydream, a magical love story, an artwork; it is splattered with Frida’s colorful soul and spirit.” Following this women only event, Dar Al-Hekma is organizing a one-day fashion design exhibition on Tuesday, which is open to all. Eyes do speak. It's funny how they perceive the things around. The broken conversations heard by fully complexed ears. I believed that I'd be ok. The conclusions that eyes draw. Never making sense of the words heard. I believed it to be my biggest mistake. Falling for the beautiful images seen. Following sight, my first love. Pain is often beautiful, layered one color after another. The stories that unfold given enough time. The initial cause and effect, forgetting the love immortalized before anything was ever heard. The intimacy that eyes will only understand/ Speak to me and I'll fully understand. She'd never been in love. I gazed intensely Still I pursued

Curator's Exhibition
Spanish Guitars A few years ago, in 2011, I went to a concert of young classical guitarists.  Just before or after, I don't recall, I saw an exhibition of Picasso's guitars at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC (http://www.moma.org/visit/calendar/exhibitions/1101). This poem ensued.  This is one of the lost poems I mentioned, recently rediscovered on an archaeological dig. Spanish Guitars two weeks pass. I have seen two guitars one of wood, one of sheet metal. both were alive, both were inanimate both birthed for display, useful for granting pleasure and heating up le jus d'creation products of a tradesman's craft, animated to pierce my brain and pleasure me with the realization that when you see what I see When you, you hear, What I see we all perforce speak but one language, an alphabet of music, art and love A young, oh so most beautiful Croat guitarist girl, Ana, coaxes an urgency from her love, the blonde wood, she takes Piazzola's notes, as if they were Picasso's thoughts and set them within so days later, the resonance plucks at my temples Picasso, like a little boy, collects collaged bits and pieces of life's stuff most ordinary, postage stamps, playing cards, wallpaper, pieces of cardboard, cutouts from Le Journal, and with fingers delicate sticks and glues discrete notes, individually nothing but pieces of this and that, bits and bobs superimposed on faux woodwork, presenting an instrument tooled to conjures up a milonga^, the sounds of angels dying, a fandango of trembling tones a sonnet of sounds, celebrating human touch upon animal, strings taut, feasts both, a banquet, a  triomphe of sounds that tutors my senses to hear sheet metal guitars imprisoned in museum glass gush sounds of parallel lines and delicate contrasts, A duet of animate, inanimate Virtuosity All is clarified. One language. Many dialects. Both, Spanish guitars. ^ a milonga has many meanings, but here, refers to a Argentine tango dance party

The attendees are told, in a manner befitting a high mass You have been finally set free, (Although, in truth, free is a very large and entirely vague word), And the message is sent forth from all comers in all corners: Vendor and visionary alike, German socialists who left university to ride boats for Greenpeace, First lieutenants doing their level best To appear at ease in civilian polos and khakis, But no matter the vessel, The message is still the same.   The tyranny of cables and storage space is dead, It is all but shouted from the lecterns, (Although it is noted, in small print and sotto voce That there are certain requirements In terms of hardware and licensing) And it is stated by Those Who Know In tones which neither brook nor invite contradiction, That they have surmounted, all Hadrian-like, The alpine divide separating mere data and magic. Two or three blocks down the street from the convention center, In a narrow storefront housing an exhibition of ether-only comics Which have broken the nettling constraints Of editors and syndication, There sits, under a somewhat opaque And slightly scratched piece of plexiglass, A yellowing comic strip of uncertain vintage, In which a frowzy cat, Free of the constraints of panels, gender, and standard grammar, Is the recipient of a mouse-tossed brick Whose flight, unfettered by physics, probablility, indeed time itself Ends striking its mark right between the x’s of the eyes The projectile itself an inexplicable alchemy Of confusion, mirth, frustration And the impossibility of an undeniably pure love.

solo piano and contemplation songs in D minor to distract desolation and turn it into poetry bittersweet, solemn, raw emotion encapsulated through rhetoric into the sound waves, into the billows a letter read aloud, a message in a bottle with melancholy rigor, and the finest of pledges to sentiment, a vow to exhibition and art, and commitment to fighting trespassers but please, dear, don’t escape, the woods of stability is for the wild and those who are lifetime trained so toast to passion, stay for the verse delay the sojourn for the song and show often rest is the answer to unsettling dreams sip the grape vine, if you please, but not forget the pen and paper by your bedside, never neglect the manuscript, not ever cease the creation write away the man that left you, destroy the character in your prose, demolish the utopia he once yearned, a poet’s fists are stronger than the fighter’s for the writer’s battle continues beyond the ring step out of the sorrow, relay the violin’s lingering echo, and one day the call outside will pause for a tranquil summer day when you are not alone

The foretold episode is ripe And the childless dawn is now flowering, The awesome parrots of Africa Have began swimming in the heavens And singing the verses of the paraded bees, For the warrior of South Africa Has ultimately impregnated the Godsbaa Without violating her divine virginity, The black star arouse from Ghana, Journeyed gorgeously through Zimbabwe And has decisively descended on South Africa, Bu this is just the divine seed Yet to grow into a full black African moon, For the black star of the black man Is the religious light yet to radiate on The colourless naivete of mankind, Ah, the premise behind this Exhibition makes a perfect sense, We did begin it all, Pilgrimage through it all And shall end it all, For the wreckage of Humanity flies with time And the megapower status Of the African is a fact of life, Today, a new voice has been Added to the joy of the black women, Causing the dry bamboo flutes to buzz With the pantaloons of the ancestors, Adorn our emerald embryonic pride with The ambrosial smiles charms of the sunrise, For he pelts of the peerless mid-night Has been remodeled with our dark gore. © PRINCE NANA ANIN-AGYEI Email: [email protected]

THE BLACK STAR
An exit for expression An admittance with no fee A mind free from excluding An exhibition without end The centerpiece- an installation Ever moving within its frame Its contents constantly disappearing To reveal a blank canvas to be filled once more The artist turns out to be me, and me alone Leaving my post is an improbability As the gallery holding me hostage is my own mind Yet in truth, I find happiness in this prison cell Without sleep I find energy from passers by Who refuel my passion with their coins Thrown into my hat beside me Tokens of positivity that they cannot directly give The door is always open Even to those who find fault with the artist Who tease me in my chained feet And hurl their abuse with intent to delay completion Yet still, I welcome companionship of viewers Without noticing the deviants who scratch away at my painting My selflessness renders me unable to notice evils Blinding me with the future I paint before my eyes My piece is never mastered For I am distracted by evils constant approach Presenting me with gifts of seeds, that grow in my soils Only to blossom as weeds, and eat away at all goodness But my grounds are open, and my job demands time Rarely do I have the time to look upon works accomplished But I steal a moment as sun and moon change shifts Only to be met a view that gives no happiness as before My stubborn positivity keeps defences up Protecting myself from taunters and ghosts who take refuge in corners I am distracted by my own optimism, the joy of what I do But it hinders me, in ways I cannot defeat My ability to seek vengeance was never yielded nor encouraged So instinctively as always, I turn not to the voices behind me And paint upon the canvas once more The doors still open

Preparations are gearing up for the iD Dunedin Fashion Show, which this year opens with a tribute to Australasian style on Anzac weekend. The 120m-long platform of Dunedin's railway station is again the venue for shows on April 24 and 25, which are preceded by the iD International Emerging Designer Awards on Thursday night at the Town Hall. Saturday night is sold out and about 100 tickets are still available to Friday's show, organisers say. Labels Carlson, Mild-Red and NOM*d, brands synonymous with Dunedin fashion, were in the original show in a local bar in 2000 and they're still show stalwarts. Company of Strangers, Charmaine Reveley, DADA Vintage, Storm, Perriam, Deval, GG (from Shanghai), Liann Bellis, BEATS clothing, Jason Lingard and Jane Sutherland are also strutting their stuff this year. The shows open with a section titled Together Alone, Revisited, put together by Doris De Pont, featuring garments by four New Zealand and three Australian designers shown at an exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in 2009. International guest judge Doris Raymond, the star of documentary series LA Frockstars, is also bringing some garments with her for the show. The owner of vintage emporium The Way We Wore has a fabulous collection of outfits and she will talk about them at an event in the city on Friday. Six fashion graduate designers from the Otago Polytechnic School of Design will also show their collections in the shows on Friday and Saturday night. Garments made by the winner of the emerging designer awards are also in the show. The finalists were selected from nearly 100 entries from seven countries and 14 fashion schools. There's a strong showing from Australian schools, especially from Sydney, says judge Tanya Carlson.Read more here:www.marieaustralia.com/evening-dresses | www.marieaustralia.com/short-formal-dresses
