"distances" poems
I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm, your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm, yes, many loved before us, I know that we are not new, in city and in forest they smiled like me and you, but now it's come to distances and both of us must try, your eyes are soft with sorrow, Hey, that's no way to say goodbye. I'm not looking for another as I wander in my time, walk me to the corner, our steps will always rhyme you know my love goes with you as your love stays with me, it's just the way it changes, like the shoreline and the sea, but let's not talk of love or chains and things we can't untie, your eyes are soft with sorrow, Hey, that's no way to say goodbye. I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm, your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm, yes many loved before us, I know that we are not new, in city and in forest they smiled like me and you, but let's not talk of love or chains and things we can't untie, your eyes are soft with sorrow, Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.

Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye
You see, The thing is, I'm standing on an abandoned road That goes two directions. I can only choose to go one way Because the distances are so far. I need to find my direction And go that way. But, I have no car No bike. I must walk.

Walk the Distance
Did you need something? Sorry, I'm raiding And I have plans with a friend To do some high rank arenas later "I can't right now" Or "Give me a moment" And that moment turns into ten Then twenty Perhaps an hour that lasts a day It's a horrible habit at times But I don't regret where I spend my life Twisted into the net Immersed in this video game Like an unhealthy addiction Only it's not It's my choice You do your thing As I hide behind this screen Enjoying my time Interacting with people Over great distances Whom I call friends They don't judge The way those around me do Believe it or not Just don't be fooled By those creeps out there But I promise Good people exist Over the net You just have to find them

time is the space in which we grow    without awareness    in our early years structured by meals    arrivals and departures    light and dark    hot and cold    school   studies  play  adventures    celebrations and by waiting    anxiously or not for things to happen time is that feeling that we may not have enough of it in our later years busy with jobs and family and travel covering long distances in order to achieve and educate and care time is what starts to rush by us with increasing speed in our final years making us wonder what it really means that space by which we measure our lives    our universes       our worlds time is

time
The moon shines a cool blue tonight as we entwine our fingers, laying on the baseball field beneath diamond heavens. We lie in silence, in the moments when the Universe reveals itself, and contemplate the distances between one celestial body to another, the space between us growing as I turn south to find Orion while you seek Cassiopeia in the north. Shooting stars cross the sky, and we wish separately on dead stars and dead dreams, lights already grown red and extinguished as we whisper in the dark, passing between phases. And in the end we're all left searching.

Red-Shifted
Stasis in darkness. Then the substanceless blue Pour of tor and distances. God's lioness, How one we grow, Pivot of heels and knees! -- The furrow Splits and passes, sister to The brown arc Of the neck I cannot catch, Nigger-eye Berries cast dark Hooks ---- Black sweet blood mouthfuls, Shadows. Something else Hauls me through air ---- Thighs, hair; Flakes from my heels. White Godiva, I unpeel ---- Dead hands, dead stringencies. And now I Foam to wheat, a glitter of seas. The child's cry Melts in the wall. And I Am the arrow, The dew that flies, Suicidal, at one with the drive Into the red Eye, the cauldron of morning.

Endless stains of blood On white t-shirts On nights that scatter blue trees over black earth Alight by shooting stars The mother tells her child Unwilling to unlock the truth The truth those stars Don't grant your wishes They grab them With scarred scratching hands. Alight, The damp stitches in the soil Cemetery symmetrical to hospital Those shooting stars circling Like a vulture Speeds towards dead carcasses Still, the murdering star will not cease To break bones That have already broken To take lives That have already been taken To burn What is already charred Today smells like burnt muddied skin feels like gnawing on your own fingers for feast sounds like tired, howling machines spurring and sputtering, never-ending their onwards trek Swallowing distances and with it, nameless faces countless places Today the earthquakes of death Don't make the land shake anymore For it has learned to cope With the desolate cemeteries filled with mute bones Today burns like gasoline Looks like intestines decorating destroyed doorways Today it rains curdled crimson Tell me shooting star If the child liked  jam on his toast Did he snore? Did he like math? Or english? Shooting star doesn't know and neither the bombs. As bodies fall from trees like rotten plums. The world was born in blood And has not ceased to suckle its wounds Endless blood thirst, Endless war But not endless skin to bleed.

The night sky above... Unreached by doves a majestic sight of incomparable light twinkling dusts of shimmering galactic blast I wonder why That this precious night sky was so sadly underrated even noticed, but rarely appreciated I wished you give a minute to take your eyes a treat and you'll see that same night sky I look at when all I've got is to cry That is my eternal canvas where hopes and dreams and lies was scattered in nowhere of fair distances; couldn't even remember the pieces. my metaphor of life, an infinite projection of blithe so tonight, by chance, again I'll watch my night sky then hoping you did too because my methapor of night sky is you

A Word dropped careless on a Page
A message heart delivered by a musing troubadour left footprints upon a well weathered rivers’ rocky shoal the lazy days of the summer’s simmering ethereal breezes lazily waft astir Unknown distance ‘tween yonder skies azure; thoughts of nebulous distances fearlessly ignored to be sure, connectedness sown and deference’s soar from high above, yet beyond vast breadth afar the great divide His brimful heart in hand fulfills passersby thirst needing love here, hearts on sleeves sincere, wellspring sensibilities handed out willingly here voids filled by word of quill … right now is the known needed time Glasses half empty suffused to their half full brims; do unto others you will reap just what ye sow, a poet beyond the bounds of his own demure, bearing immense understanding The quintessential essence of family love drips from heart like heavens rain, testifies the heart's purpose for being A poet’s voice speaks in soul’s timeless tongues unknown breaths from another understanding realm too deep for words; yet the word sayer struggles to see his forest ‘s poetic beauty for to see beyond the pendant beauty within its magnificent grandeur of his own gifted heart’s nurtured trees. ~ The Twist This poem was not written by me. It was written almost four years ago, lying fallow in some passing cloud. Writ for me by someone effervescently more talented than I, and one of the poets whose quality of work, and command of our shared language is something to which all of us should aspire. I post it now as yet another homage to the true author. For in reading it, never was a poem was far more clearly, an unwitting self-portrait. **It was written on August 21st, 2013 by Harlon Rivers** by Nat Lipstadt

Isn’t is strange how we notice things when it is too late? This is probably the last time that all of us will be in the car together. There will be no more midnight drives from hillside theatres. No more 2am dinner plans at kerbey lane. This is the first time that I have noticed that you twirl your hair when you drive. My eyes have shifted from cityscapes flying across backseat windows to watching you wrap your hair around your finger. It’s not slow and flirtatious, but quick and desparate, as if you're trying to distract yourself from the fact that we are growing up. It’s making me anxious, but I can’t look away. This is the first time that I noticed the change in our silence. We are driving down nearly empty highways, and we are leaving behind our time. We are no longer laughing, and this silence doesn’t feel like it usually does. For once, none of us have anything to say. Or maybe, we know that there is not enough time to say all of the things that we should and want to say. This is when I noticed how much I love driving down empty highways at midnight. Everything is slow, there is no rush, and, for once, there are no expectations of me. I am finally, truly noticing that there will never be enough time to tell you all that I love you, to hear you talk about science, to hear about your travels, to talk to you about your struggles, to drive, and laugh, and cry with you, to watch you twirl you hair. Now, we have grown up, and our distances will strain our years of friendships, and there will never be enough time with you.

What can win against time, someone asked me reminiscing the journey which started eighteen months ago with me and him philosophizing intricacies of life and human emotion relishing the daily luxuries of satisfying debates when little did I know that we would walk all along fighting demons in our own being surviving closed ends of fate and loneliness The man I got to learn of his real, gentle and calm soul comforted with the truth of a warm heart eventually knocking out the dread of long distances between us relinquishing the storms in our minds embracing sparkles of different weathers Shall it really last forever self-contained or burst out with emotion believing it really is us together and our love fueled by faith in search of its way which outlasts time a shining beacon in midst of an ocean of crowded wilderness.

An absence reversed Beheld Belonging Fuming lush greenery seemingly Between the frothing Soup and lather twinkling Speaking "Tradition may act dishonestly" All and sundry Trails along merrily For traditionally All is how it should be Belonging to one and only. Binding A trade between the thin lines A baking sheet made sprayed messy Artists in threes Shakers of mountains for invisible ease The truth is simply Things done traditionally All-in consuming historically. Flesh Released Is fresh Relief Hidden in the fabric's sleeve A gaping passage of air and breeze Racing electricity Breathtaking silk from worms And worms eaten by birds Tradition Sewing the dresses of Empress the third. Halt Her plea worth salt and sugar Still Like the skater's Minted odour Hope Distances the valleys low dipped to the everlasted rivers Where a time arrives for eternal celebration. The embellishments of Unwavered tradition.

Distances Disappear
The Yorkshire Rose, elegantly perched on the bridge This was not London, or the palace nor Manchester, where Mancurians are free nor Blackpool, where the beach swallows Glasses, towels, mussels clinging to rocks The Yorkshire rose, drawn upon the bridge Bullet trains, leading distances Almost unfathomable in this very spot Harrogate, bath water Spilling onto the street in natural sulphuric geysers Burning The Yorkshire Rose, fleeting in memory In ghosts of the abbey nearby

I thought I understood distance When I learned at school it is defined as “The amount of space between two points.” I learned distance can be measured in various units As steps, kilometres and miles or even intervals of time. I thought I understood distance When I counted 2362 steps walking to school And noticed my dad’s car meter increasing two miles In three minutes driving me back home. But my understanding had changed when I started measuring longer distances. And attempting to cross them. I travelled a distance measured in kilometres and hours to see him. Such distances can be easily crossed. Either I took the next train, or drove my car Distance as an amount of space was two thousand kilometres And distance as an amount of time was only a few hours. I thought I understood distance, But never the amount of space between two specific points; My lips and his lips. I travelled a distance measured in bottles of wine and years to kiss him. Such distances can’t be easily crossed. I could walk miles of skin And distance as an amount of space between us Could extend tiresome. But such distances aren’t necessarily a barrier. I have crossed all the oceans we created I counted all the bodies And I have indulged in his lips. It took me two bottles of wine and twenty years To actually understand distance But my understanding is obsolete For him and I , Are still two distant entities.

1229 Because He loves Her We will pry and see if she is fair What difference is on her Face From Features others wear. It will not harm her magic pace That we so far behind— Her Distances propitiate As Forests touch the Wind Not hoping for his notice vast But nearer to adore ’Tis Glory’s far sufficiency That makes our trying poor.

Wild stallion live free Galloping unbound Always you flee Never chained to your ground Wild stallion how swiftly you fly Over distances and plains How courageous you try Hide your aches and pains Wild stallion your hooves beat the earth With fierce determination Let loose and be rid of your girth Be free from trepidation Wild stallion covet your solitude Embrace the run in silence Your formidable strides of fortitude Bound forth with repentance Wild stallion I see you there Mane billowing as you thundered across Grounds fly beneath you without a care Running without remorse, gliding without loss Wild stallion I was once like you Soaring to the ends on unrestrained wings A life that is now but an echo; a faint pathetic hue A life that is now filled with broken things Wild stallion keep on running free Keep galloping and know no bounds You're free, no need to flee Outrun the chains, leave them as faint indiscernible sounds Wild stallion how I envy you As you canter, your coat gleam in the light See me as you always do Just a reflection who has ceased to fight

Congratulations! It’s finally over! You’ve climbed the mountains and trekked the canyons Now it’s time to meet the future. The past four yeas Have been challenging and rough, But we’ve chosen our careers And high school’s not enough. University’s on the way. There are many more paths to tread And more adventures to slay All widespread. We’ll be all across the world Some here and some there Not knowing the next place we’ll be hurled But we’ll be well prepared. We’ve all known each other for a while Some longer than other But through the years our lifestyle Will keep up close together. Our travels and experiences Will unite us Across the long distances, Shortening the crevice. Congratulations! It’s finally over! You’ve climbed the mountains and trekked the canyons Now it’s time to meet the future.
