Dear son I am dying
So you may live!
I couldn't pay for your son's school fees,
The deepawali sweets and crackers
And your wife's saree,
Nor could I buy you the500cc
Enfield Bullet.I had promised.
My revised pension hasn't yet come.
They have told me to wait,
But I know you can't.
Deepawali crackers are costlier this year
With the boycott of Chinese goods
A big price for patriotism.
My friends tell me that if I die
They will turn me
Into a symbol,
Something very big and important.
Somewhere elections are just round the corner,
There will be a statue
And money and job for you.
They say.
I must die for you to live.
I have lived my life.
Sorry son, I had much to say
But they tell me to hurry.
The facilitator has another appointment to keep
If only I could go with a bullet in my heart
And a few pakis at my feet
And not a sip from the hemlock tree!
Do not gamble with the money you get,
This Deepawali, pay Dipu's fees,
Buy a plot of land,
Take mother to Haridwar.
And yes, get the money and the job
Immediately after I die,  least they forget.
They will promise the world.
They will come, don't worry, make them pay,
Insects always do when there is light.

They call me

I must go

You live..

I'll burn my crackers.
Why should I abstain?
Let the animals whimper
I don't care for their pain!

I'll burn my crackers
The pleasure is insane!
Let the world die a little
I don't care the blame!

I'll burn my crackers
You should try the same!
Let your neighbours envy
That's how you rise to fame!

I'll burn my crackers
Don't you dare complain
Let the old bicker
I'll not stop the flame!
This, like my other posts recently, is also something I had written sometime back and wasn't shared on this platform.

Context to people who aren't familiar with the indian festival Deepawali/Diwali: It's a hindu festival where the celebration involves bursting of crackers, which has adverse effects on environment as a consequence.

PS: I wish a very happy and joy filled deepawali to all my friends over here.

I am surely not the best specimen of **** sapiens species,
But I surely am the best example of a human being there is.
I am surely having a huge gold heart deep inside my chest,
But I surely am not aware what good bring to me, would it.
I am usually never indulged in such petty self-glorification,
But I usually am indulged in environment & nation glorification.
I did not pollute the environment this Deepawali,
I made it a point not to use gasoline for short distances.

I surely may not even be a soldier of the Indian National Army,
But I surely am the best patriotic Indian being there is.
I am surely incapable of joining the Army as of now,
But I did not even buy any Chinese products lately.
I am of knowledge that the Chinese endorse terror,
Because they are supportive of Pakistan's motives.
The Chinese have ego problems - they don't let others be happy.
Protect the environment.
Boycott the Chinese.

my kindness has now been commodified
whereas before it triggered hate
--seen as weakness, as cruelty's plaything--
still, i saturate to what extent i can
my daily happy-dance with honest friendship,
compassion's ease, delight and pet-store equipoise.
yet my sincerity is sloganed, emptied of its worth:
trained to say 'rewards program' in stead of 'membership, account';
'guests' in stead of 'customers'
'team-players' in stead of 'employees'
'long-term relationships' as first and foremost mission statement's goal--
slither-scripted to promote a highest bottom line
as language euphemizes baby mice as 'pinkies,
fuzzies, hoppers': 'feeders' for a petted multitude
of scaly, fang-ed maws.

pre-thanksgiving christmas-trees
on either side of automatic double-doors--
styro-snowflakes hung
by wrapping-papered end-cap shelves on sale
to swipe our plastics to a higher debt--
to tinsel out the shame of maybe giving less?
reminding 'gift-time soon' and 'this could be a gift'
to ward off never having given childhood its due?
or of being less than cheerful
at incessant jingled tunes?

november fifth--decorations up;
guy fawkes night of trick-or-treater-candies
tweeting hallowed flu-shots
as my manager in elf-cap-antlers squeals in glee:
says she starts promoting christmas back in august.
i tell her that's appropriate!
given jesus was perhaps born in august.
says she didn't memorize the bible.
i tell her that part was left out anyway--
i don't mention the holiday's titular meaning;
or the waiting gnostic manger,
royal transhistoric camels,
mary on her donkey, joseph's wind-blown face
