"curved" poems
Art, a smile like the one on the face of Mona Lisa. Curved like the waxing moon above the sea. Light a flame before a face yet to be seen. What will it prevail, will it show once for all a slow tilt on the smiling lips —a curve softly locks on a rose from the sun, or a shadow beneath the moon?

Smile Like Mona Lisa: I Didn’t Need to See Her
Naked you are simple as one of your hands; Smooth, earthy, small, transparent, round. You've moon-lines, apple pathways Naked you are slender as a naked grain of wheat. Naked you are blue as a night in Cuba; You've vines and stars in your hair. Naked you are spacious and yellow As summer in a golden church. Naked you are tiny as one of your nails; Curved, subtle, rosy, till the day is born And you withdraw to the underground world. As if down a long tunnel of clothing and of chores; Your clear light dims, gets dressed, drops its leaves, And becomes a naked hand again.

Morning (Love Sonnet XXVII)
# *paint me with the wet tickle of your tongue lingering with affection savoring my fervent flavor in bold strokes of your obsession color my essence in heated hues sending shivers down my spine in anticipation of your warm breath against my flesh with every blissful caress to ensue painted petals of animation with your supple lips gently blur the lines of my curved hips softly stroking the subtle shadows of warm depth, blushing quivering thighs as I gasp of breath plunge in a primer coated palette dipping your stiff paintbrush deep within the folds of my blanket manipulating a trembling image of your voracious lust. craze me again and again in breathless ****** glow, your sensual brushstrokes gently murmuring layer on layer in alla prima flow delve deep into my eyes paint splattering the passion of my soul drizzling silken strands of love in their entirety, polishing me whole and then in blissful backwash admire the tangled limbs interposed of your completed masterpiece in smiling sated repose* #

Her lips, tight and curved, Ready to string up an arrow And launch it to the sky To explode into a fine dust Where a myriad of stars congregate Just to kiss your freckled cheeks

i wrote you a letter every day letters to tell you just how i feel written in neat, curved writing i told you just how sweet i thought you were how you made my heart glow letters in which i wrote with various colors of ink pouring out my whole being to you i wrote you a letter every day. i wrote you letters in which i told you how you made me bloom. eventually i found myself pressing harder on the paper than i had before. creating tears in them similar in shape and size as the ones inside of me. i began to send letters with creases and bumps and stains splattered with tears pouring from my eyes as i wrote the anger bubbling within me. my last letter addressed to you contained no words but was blank. because i had none that could reach as far and deep into the cracks of my heart to describe just what you had left of me.

I come to life when you touch me Fluent & continuous. You've unzipped my lips and tossed them to the side. I've never fallen & been caught so freely. I've never paid attention to how flat the world really was. A jagged peninsula Eloped in oceans embrace Curved in explosion. Sometimes it feels like I am Drowning. I've never paid attention to how flat the world really is Chipped off, covered by you falling deeper into you

XXVII. TO ARTEMIS (22 lines) (ll. 1-20) I sing of Artemis, whose shafts are of gold, who cheers on the hounds, the pure maiden, shooter of stags, who delights in archery, own sister to Apollo with the golden sword. Over the shadowy hills and windy peaks she draws her golden bow, rejoicing in the chase, and sends out grievous shafts. The tops of the high mountains tremble and the tangled wood echoes awesomely with the outcry of beasts: earthquakes and the sea also where fishes shoal. But the goddess with a bold heart turns every way destroying the race of wild beasts: and when she is satisfied and has cheered her heart, this huntress who delights in arrows slackens her supple bow and goes to the great house of her dear brother Phoebus Apollo, to the rich land of Delphi, there to order the lovely dance of the Muses and Graces. There she hangs up her curved bow and her arrows, and heads and leads the dances, gracefully arrayed, while all they utter their heavenly voice, singing how neat-ankled Leto bare children supreme among the immortals both in thought and in deed. (ll. 21-22) Hail to you, children of Zeus and rich-haired Leto! And now I will remember you and another song also.

1235 Like Rain it sounded till it curved And then I new ’twas Wind— It walked as wet as any Wave But swept as dry as sand— When it had pushed itself away To some remotest Plain A coming as of Hosts was heard It filled the Wells, it pleased the Pools It warbled in the Road— It pulled the spigot from the Hills And let the Floods abroad— It loosened acres, lifted seas The sites of Centres stirred Then like Elijah rode away Upon a Wheel of Cloud.

We attempt rescue, unable to bear the stardust-coated dragonfly beat, beat, beating frantic on the glass. We entice him to perch on our extended lifeline-broom nurse him in a box, where he flutters quivers, lies quietly blue. My son cries bitterly as we place a minute cross upon the dragonfly grave while intoning our final goodbyes: *We honor those who have fallen victim to this fatal architectural trap, lured by skylights of enticing white-light death and the paned illusion of freedom. In admiration of winged determination and perseverance in the face of futility we carefully tend the fragile, curved bodies lay them here to rest under the mock orange.* years of gauze-weighted detritus swept beneath these ponderous shrubs a reminder - what seems like freedom                                                                     often isn’t.

*The Saint of Sadism
I've loved many boys With different colored eyes But the way I remember them is By the shape of their hands The way their thumbs curved Or how their palms felt against my own The weight of them on my thighs Or how they ran through my hair The times they zipped up my dress And settled on my shoulders The moments when they grazed my own As they handed me my keys The motion of them as they spoke And the motionless of them when they were silent The smoothness of them in the beginning And the calluses after time had passed Sometimes, I forget the faces of these boys Or the way their voice sounded over the phone But I'll never forget the way it felt With their hands intertwined in my own

Hands
I found myself fracturing beneath his fists, Beauty beaten in hues of blue, purple and black, Like clouded midnight skies, full of rain. My eyes becoming pools of stars, Glistening with secrets of pain, Shining dully into the darkness of our nights. Saturated with his snide, stingy, cruel colors, I soaked in his venom, Becoming canvas for the art of abuse. And wasn't it beautiful? These tears in skin hindered no smile, Bruises like paint, enhancing face, Pupils shining like diamonds, Rough and worn, but precious. Aching bones breaking to rebuild themselves, Tongue red with biting back curses, Rosy lips curved and sealed against apologies, Flesh as hard and gray as stone, Sharpened against wicked whims and foul words, Aren't I beautiful - In all my rainbow tones?

Haiku on a Dolphin
Lovely mornings, evenings, nights our hearts took flight Laughing ceased as sighs increased. Wafts of sensual sweet smells rose. Bodies, curved in writhing poses glowed. Cares lost in arousing touch, lingering fingers longed for Secrets, shared in sacred sighs and wanton lies. Arching union quivered and quaked. I whispered then and will again Stilettos are not made for walking, Their soul purpose, freeing our rising desires, Feeding rapturous tinglings of sensual ecstasy.

A fond remembrance
Paint the night sky with twinkling stars, distant from one another but collectively emitting a spectacular glow; Paint the spun ivory clouds across the interminable blue, watching the softness suffocate sunlight streaming below; Paint your frayed chocolate braids beside curved, smiling full lips in the middle of a vivid, adorned cottage; Paint the passionate red of blood that stains our hands as they clasp together like imperfect puzzle pieces, and the jagged breathing that fogs the dusk; Paint yourself where you are loved-- Paint yourself with me.

Your body was wonderful.
Naked, you are simple as one of your hands, smooth, earthy, small, transparent, round: you have moon-lines, apple-pathways: naked, you are slender as a naked grain of wheat. Naked, you are blue as a night in Cuba; you have vines and stars in your hair; naked you are spacious and yellow as summer in a golden church. Naked, you are tiny as one of your nails - curved, subtle, rosy, till the day is born and you withdraw to the underground world, as if down a long tunnel of clothing and of chores: your clear light dims, gets dressed - drops its leaves - and becomes a naked hand again.

He used to drink orange juice out of cups that curved, like his smile used to, licking droplets of orange sun off of his lips; sun beams, that shined from his face, and his eyes, which was unfair because he knew; I'm telling you, he knew, that summer was my favorite time of year. And when the sun hit me, like a thousand arrows, from the bow of Heartbreak, that I would think of him and his orange juice cup. And question all the reseons he sent me letters with different stamps, always scribbled in black lines, like his pupils, when I let him see through the jail bars of my soul, and I asked him, no, I begged him to leave me cuffed to the wall, with no food or water, starving my desire to love again, knowing that if I devoured every word, every sound, and memory, of trembling hands on first dates, leaning in to kiss me, with lips and fists at the nape of my neck, clinging to me like feathers; with every single intake of breath, and caterpillars that wrapped themselves in silk, and waited for days and nights to pass, until finally, they spread their wings to reveal Picasso's paintings, that I would eventually die of starvation, as the words ran out, and the kisses became short, and the butterflies died... He knew. He knew that I loved summer; and the drops of orange juice on his lips.

Spoken word.
by Sara L Russell (2003) "Who is this goddess?" Whispered the sun, As the moon traversed the sky, "This angel, silent as a nun, This silver dragonfly?" He moved in for a closer gaze, His heart began to speed, As through a misty, cloud-spun haze, He watched the moon proceed; Soft silver tresses graced her brow, Her dress, mother-of-pearl, billowed like sails on a dream-ship's prow, or curved tsunami-swirl. "Oh Lady Moon" murmured the sun, "I burn, I swoon for you. "Come let me kiss you, gentle one, Before night passes through." "Come languish in my warming arms, To music of nightjars, Come let me taste those subtle charms, Dear lady of the stars." "Ah, do not court frivolity" He heard the moon reply. "My purpose is to steer the sea And yours to light the sky;" "Why, if I languished here with you, Tall ships would run aground, And you must light each day anew Or all nature confound." The sun-god would not be deterred, But kissed her trembling lips. As they embraced, no sound was heard Throughout the first eclipse; Waves lay as mirrors where they kissed, Until they drew away, To drift back into heaven's mist, As night melted to day.
