The napalan man in a violet cape   descended the stair with a lopsided gait a wretched procession, subscribers in cue rattling off as they stream from the pew   sounds and smells from a shadowy place a catholic priest to gin up base lanterns strung from bolted doors cobbled streets and wooden floors   stepping stones and iron bell fortified by the citadel hallowed halls and sepulcher dragon cane for the horse drawn tour castle turret,  archer holes centaur scribed in chamber bowls garden columns in courtyard view the blood ballet and hullabaloo   ancient tombs on warrior grounds gods and saints who made their rounds goliath still with battered scythe knelt in prayer and mummified   battle fires and crowds that roar gallows, caves, abysmal war   gargoyles flock the terraced slope pearly gates to bring on hope   serpents, snakes and burning ash lava bombs and trident clash mariners drift in absentee as neptune rises from the Tyrrhenian Sea

Cinque Terre
Elephant seals gross and flabby ignorant of protocol ponderously scratch. Uniformed unicorns importune tame peacocks wearing pink petticoats. Fluted columns fade at twilight into the secrecy of a passing thought. Toy soldiers on parade fragile, glittering lost.

Curiosity
As a man and woman make a garden between them like a bed of stars, here they linger in the summer evening and the evening turns cold with their terror: it could all end, it is capable of devastation. All, all can be lost, through scented air the narrow columns uselessly rising, and beyond, a churning sea of poppies-- Hush, beloved. It doesn't matter to me how many summers I live to return: this one summer we have entered eternity. I felt your two hands bury me to release its splendor.

The White Lilies
Dawn in New York has four columns of mire and a hurricane of black pigeons splashing in the putrid waters. Dawn in New York groans on enormous fire escapes searching between the angles for spikenards of drafted anguish. Dawn arrives and no one receives it in his mouth because morning and hope are impossible there: sometimes the furious swarming coins penetrate like drills and devour abandoned children. Those who go out early know in their bones there will be no paradise or loves that bloom and die: they know they will be mired in numbers and laws, in mindless games, in fruitless labors. The light is buried under chains and noises in the impudent challenge of rootless science. And crowds stagger sleeplessly through the boroughs as if they had just escaped a shipwreck of blood.

I like using fire as an analogy, a metaphor, the punchline for most of my poetry I often describe the heart as if it were a hearth, while its beats were the heat it radiated I see it—sometimes a roaring flame, often times a steady bonfire, other times a dying match. It could scorch you if you aren't careful, but it also provides you warmth and light. A sort of clarity. Comfort. It allows some of the toughest things on Earth to become malleable and mold itself into something new It turns the bitter into sweet, the biting cold to teeth-sinking warm, the tasteless into delicious It allows the spirit to soar with columns of smoke to the heavens while the body becomes fertilizer for daisies It takes beauty, and burns it black and ash to the point of no recognition Fire is so precious, and dangerous, and essential, and beautiful, and ugly—just like this hearth of a heart Tended and regulated well, it's the greatest discovery of mankind Allowed to burn out quick, or spread out of control, then it's the accident that burned down London in 1666 I believe I should end this by saying: find someone who will tend to your hearth as if it were their last dying light, instead of a person who would simply roast marshmallows with forest fires

Our heart burns broken at the ends, they fail us, keep building my lungs are wax inside my ribs, you’re burning, well I’m breathing this back breaks walked on from carrying friends, can’t stop now, still working your life’s like rain drops on my tongue, I believe you, keep raining and it’s alright, it’s alright, we are not right now complete and I’m alright, you’re gonna be alright, we might never be complete but the water keeps rising, it’s rising, everybody get into the water and hold each others hands and lives, let’s all push our hearts together.... we’re gonna leave these shores right now, be everything we’ve never been but you gotta swear to promise that we’ll never go back again, ever again and we’re not just islands lying beside each others shorelines we’re all bound with veins and hopes, we are not each others ghosts our hearts are abridged, let's build bridges to each other so this river won’t take us under filled with monsters and goblins, they keep dragging the bottom our life is a bridge, let’s build bridges to each other and pray we don’t go under, oh these careless waters I’m trying not to confuse: being used, with giving all I am by: being used, and giving everything I have, all I am so I’ll build a bridge with hollow bones filled with hollow teeth inside a hollow heart, with the insides carved and let the blood in these veins freeze let the water in these veins freeze and break and flood the dam we are all we have, this is all we need, hold on it may never end and I might have to drink my teeth again if I wash up on the coast so I’ll build a bridge with all that’s left, & not make any more new ghosts show me your life, wide and bright, I hope that patience fills the seams keep what’s inside, dry and right, you arch the frame I’ll span the beams our lives are a bridge for us to give, I want to build a better bridge from every wrong we’ve done to each other, if I forgive will you forgive? cause one day we’re gonna close our eyes for death or rest and abandon ourself, this weak mind and breath and the columns we made, and roots we grew down deep will be pulled and gathered in to firewood, and burnt for heat but when the tension shifts, and these braces turn I’ll try and build a better bridge and when all our piers burn, and the hinges miss I’m gonna build a better bridge our hearts are abridged, let’s build bridges to each other so we don’t take ourselves under Our heart burns broken at the ends, they fail us, keep building my lungs are wax inside my ribs, you’re burning, I’m still breathing this back breaks walked on carry friends, can’t stop now, still working your life’s like rain drops on my tongue, I believe you, keep raining our lives are a bridge for us to give, I want to build a better bridge from every wrong we’ve done to each other, if I forgive will you forgive? our hearts are abridged, let’s build bridges to each other so this river won’t take us under, so we don’t take ourselves under our lives are a bridge, let’s build bridges to each other and pray we don’t go under, oh these careless waters our lives are a bridge for us to give, I want to build a better bridge from every wrong we’ve done to each other, if I forgive will you forgive? our lives are a bridge for us to give, I want to build a better bridge from every wrong we’ve done to each other, if I forgive will you forgive? our hearts are abridged, let’s build bridges to each other so this river won’t take us under, so we don’t take ourselves under

ᗩIᑎᕼᗩᖇᗩ ~ ⚪♫⚪ ~ Out of the Palace, into the Queen's Garden. *'One that could rival King Paul's Luciuscemian Gardens,'* she thinks as she walks under the high cream arches and Grecian columns with ivy vines coiling around them. She stands on the white marble steps. *'Truly, this is the Queen Mother's finest work yet...'* ~ ⚪♫⚪ ~ The young Queen Lyn spares no expense in expanding her library, filling it with leather-bound books and scrolls, new and old. She spares no expense when it comes to her love for herbal teas, near and far... But her mother? ~ ⚪♫⚪ ~ The Queen Mother is known for her keen eye, fast wits, bladed tongue and for her love for fashion, gardening and a frugal nature. *'Like frugal mother, like bookish daughter!'* Ainhara can not help but to chuckle. ~ ⚪♫⚪ ~ She watches as the gardeners trim the mint-green grass, beech hedges and shrubby. But what Ainhara marvels most are the flowers. Pots of lavender and roses, rosemary and mint are placed around carefully, by the white lilies, orange lilies, yellow lilies, flushing lilies. ~ ⚪♫⚪ ~ She notices that green lilies and blue lilies; the gifts from Queen Yidna; plants native to her Puhan Kingdom, are in full bloom. They remind her of the colours of the Seas that she, Esshi and Lyn had sailed when they visited Queen Yidna. *'Puhan has the calmest seas of the brightest colours,'* She recalls how her Queen was happy and relaxed then...

Life reduced to a ticking clock, As shriveled men desperately clasp To slick tomes filled with diagrams Of shadowy glass towers, convoluted machines And factories with a singular purpose: To manufacture their own existence. The Plague spreads to druidic forests Where those who simply existed Overcome with glutinous ambition Demolish those majestic columns Which supported equilibrium While the world gleefully cheers.

An ode seems appropriate To the classical style Of the columns and the domes Above the green court. Many things have adorned that dome: Squad car, fire truck, droid, and phone But today, viewed in a mind's eye—sunlight. But as were that phone booth still apparent From afar it now calls, and now I shall answer. Over the river, and through the urban jungle, Through the sky, 400 miles, as the airliner flies But worth every inch, rod, meter or smoot. It beckons to the mind and to the heart; It beckons to the soul of a scholar. Were I less knowing I might think not That light fell from above onto that dome. But rather, that the hemisphere Gave forth the blazing light ebullience of photons, amidst Torrents of knowledge. Its hallowed halls, numbered precisely, Soon no longer a forbidden temple shall be Instead, I shall tread there, such as I am Learn from efforts I effect and others I see O Halls, I shall greet thee, O Tunnels in winter Traverse and find warmth to keep body to task For knowledge, always, comes with a high price In joules, dollars, cents, days and hours of rest Long nights turn to dawns, nose to the grindstone Maybe just one more tool; okay, maybe another. But brother meets brother, and sister meets sister On both sides of the river, and the work gets done. Whether Greek or not, there is community here A problem, or a set of them, is always seen through. As the sun now rises, a new day sets in. In a few hours of my life I will rise to these challenges. With a chirping, I shall cross the paths that I come to, Enter the halls .. and my journey shall begin. ~ D. B. Guy

The rose is obsolete but each petal ends in an edge, the double facet cementing the grooved columns of air—The edge cuts without cutting meets—nothing—renews itself in metal or porcelain— whither? It ends— But if it ends the start is begun so that to engage roses becomes a geometry— Sharper, neater, more cutting figured in majolica— the broken plate glazed with a rose Somewhere the sense makes copper roses steel roses— The rose carried weight of love but love is at an end—of roses It is at the edge of the petal that love waits Crisp, worked to defeat laboredness—fragile plucked, moist, half-raised cold, precise, touching What The place between the petal’s edge and the From the petal’s edge a line starts that being of steel infinitely fine, infinitely rigid penetrates the Milky Way without contact—lifting from it—neither hanging nor pushing— The fragility of the flower unbruised penetrates space

Dawn I awaken, slowly, to a light cool falling drop of water on my cheek. I arise from my soft, cool bed of leaves and pine needles. Gazing through magnificent towering redwoods, I stand in awe. The night storm has passed and the clouds part. The last few falling raindrops race to the ground before the sun emerges. Birds chirp in the distance to bring in the new day. The air is fresh, crisp Quiet. I breath deeply. Happiness. Sun rays penetrate the forest kiss my cheek. Warm. My castle of trees has many halls but no walls. Towering columns Gentle giants to watch over me. I walk for miles, barefoot On a soft carpet of pine, cool beneath my feet I look up gentle drops of water land on my outstretched hands I reach a clearing The sun is setting, falling asleep in his bed of clouds. He bids farewell and goodnight, but to return soon. I lay myself down on the ground beside the Oak. The root is my pillow Peace My eyelids slowly, surely close as I rest. The mockingbird quietly sings me to sleep. Sweet, pleasant dreams, majestic forest. Dusk -John G. Thomas

Sonnet CLIV ~ The Liver
When the forests have been destroyed their darkness remains The ash the great walker follows the possessors Forever Nothing they will come to is real Nor for long Over the watercourses Like ducks in the time of the ducks The ghosts of the villages trail in the sky Making a new twilight Rain falls into the open eyes of the dead Again again with its pointless sound When the moon finds them they are the color of everything The nights disappear like bruises but nothing is healed The dead go away like bruises The blood vanishes into the poisoned farmlands Pain the horizon Remains Overhead the seasons rock They are paper bells Calling to nothing living The possessors move everywhere under Death their star Like columns of smoke they advance into the shadows Like thin flames with no light They with no past And fire their only future

"Your shapely, bootylicious thighs, carved columns of lubricious butter, shouldn't be left without gently caressed, til covered all over with ruddy marks of desire, just strawberry goosebumps for ignorant  others" When she snuggles closer to him, from the seat next, as the train rocks and they rub, when gathering speed, she sporting a marvelous mini dress engrossing his libido, he whispers to her, who was all ears, "But my real object of focus is the truth, that lurks where your thighs meet"

The Foothills of Colima
Robin hums as she tends her garden while birds perch all around waiting for rustling seeds to fill the slender columns. Humming birds hover   to sip sweet nectar mixed for them alone. On concert nights her voice takes flight. and fills the hall with her radiant soul. On quiet mornings graphite joins with paper and a flower's form and meaning are captured by her vision. A friend fallen ill or reeling from loss receives her gift of comfort words and a card or meal soon follows. Grandchildren rush to greet her and happily fill her arms. at night they cloak themselves In love quilts sewn by Grandma’s hands. If you want to learn how love abides or long to know its fullness follow my Robin for a day Her gift is in the gifting. July, 2006

Songbird
The eye can hardly pick them out From the cold shade they shelter in, Till wind distresses tail and main; Then one crops grass, and moves about - The other seeming to look on - And stands anonymous again Yet fifteen years ago, perhaps Two dozen distances surficed To fable them : faint afternoons Of Cups and Stakes and Handicaps, Whereby their names were artificed To inlay faded, classic Junes - Silks at the start : against the sky Numbers and parasols : outside, Squadrons of empty cars, and heat, And littered grass : then the long cry Hanging unhushed till it subside To stop-press columns on the street. Do memories plague their ears like flies? They shake their heads. Dusk brims the shadows. Summer by summer all stole away, The starting-gates, the crowd and cries - All but the unmolesting meadows. Almanacked, their names live; they Have slipped their names, and stand at ease, Or gallop for what must be joy, And not a fieldglass sees them home, Or curious stop-watch prophesies : Only the grooms, and the grooms boy, With bridles in the evening come.

At Grass
Shattered glass upon the ground I walk With Shards in my bare feet And skin dry and brittle like chalk Bathing in my own field of wheat I am the bread basket of my own produce The life of my own breath And the electrician to my own fuse That cuts the energy from the world's **** So my dear friend won't you look And see that I am I I write my own bound book With letters of my soul's cry You are the upholder to your own home The columns to a distinct bridge Don't take me from my kingdom To lead me to the devil's ledge I ask of you to sing your song not mine And allow me to write my melody Of the oceans whispers upon the pine That speaks my spirit not this felony Oh how I wish I believed these words But they tell the lie of a longing heart That's pierced by frozen swords I want to help you love, hold your part I want to be your eternal pillar And live as one in unison Resonating the music of our laughter Please take me as your woman
