"cape" poems
The napalan man in a violet cape   descended the stair with a lopsided gait a wretched procession, subscribers in cue rattling off as they stream from the pew   sounds and smells from a shadowy place a catholic priest to gin up base lanterns strung from bolted doors cobbled streets and wooden floors   stepping stones and iron bell fortified by the citadel hallowed halls and sepulcher dragon cane for the horse drawn tour castle turret,  archer holes centaur scribed in chamber bowls garden columns in courtyard view the blood ballet and hullabaloo   ancient tombs on warrior grounds gods and saints who made their rounds goliath still with battered scythe knelt in prayer and mummified   battle fires and crowds that roar gallows, caves, abysmal war   gargoyles flock the terraced slope pearly gates to bring on hope   serpents, snakes and burning ash lava bombs and trident clash mariners drift in absentee as neptune rises from the Tyrrhenian Sea

Cinque Terre
'Twas midnight in the schoolroom And every desk was shut When suddenly from the alphabet Was heard a loud "Tut-Tut!" Said A to B, "I don't like C; His manners are a lack. For all I ever see of C Is a semi-circular back!" "I disagree," said D to B, "I've never found C so. From where I stand he seems to be An uncompleted O." C was vexed, "I'm much perplexed, You criticise my shape. I'm made like that, to help spell Cat And Cow and Cool and Cape." "He's right" said E; said F, "Whoopee!" Said G, "'Ip, 'Ip, 'ooray!" "You're dropping me," roared H to G. "Don't do it please I pray." "Out of my way," LL said to K. "I'll make poor I look ILL." To stop this stunt J stood in front, And presto! ILL was JILL. "U know," said V, "that W Is twice the age of me. For as a Roman V is five I'm half as young as he." X and Y yawned sleepily, "Look at the time!" they said. "Let's all get off to beddy byes." They did, then "Z-z-z."

The ABC
I am not superman. I carry around guns for protection. I have killed many And never was sorry. I have stolen from men who have stolen from others. Do not look at me as a savior, Not even as a big brother, because I am nothing of a role model. My wings have broken and I don't even have a place to call home. Pain is written on my skin with the smirk of a devil leaving cracks all over for sorrow to sneak its way in and bury itself deep into my bones. So give me hope because I'm not man enough to create my own. I keep putting other's lives before mine hoping that counts as love but wind up realizing that doesn't count as anything Trust me, I'm no superman. I can't even save myself. I've burned my cape in the fires of hell because I've been there enough to know I can't wear it anymore. I have flaws enough to fill the ocean and I'm sick of drowning and I'm tired of counting dead bodies and I’m tired of swimming through waves I'm not big enough for. So hear the violin and piano play my symphony of the fallen man. I never said I could fly. I never said I could save your life. I never gave up though. So hold me tight and let me finally break and fall into the arms of someone I can trust and someone I know that'll keep my heart safe buried next to theirs. I've played wicked games and lost too many times and now I just want to sleep. I'm tired of turning up black and blue But I'll do anything to protect you. If you were never here then I would have ended this a long time ago. I would have welcomed the salt water into my lungs Or fall asleep in a tree and meet death in the morning as I hang in silence. But now I beg for hope because I'm torn apart. But I know am seen as your superman so I’m going to hang on with all my might, And live this life with you as a hero as your superman.

Like superman to your batman I actually got power Power with ink, Power with flow Don't even blink I'll make your mind blow Like my cape to your batmobile How does it feel? Knowing I can fly, You just spinning your wheels Throwing around money While I'm saving the world Like my Lois Lane to your Robin I'll actually get the guy You sitting there cryin Cause money don't but happiness Neither does fame Just writing what I feel And you'll never be the same My Clark Kent to your Bruce Wayne Might as well just give up Cause you'll never be me I'm just made of stronger stuff Its the end of the line Especially for you Maybe it's time To figure out what else you can do...

Superman vs. Batman
sometimes i go off about these worlds that i make up in my head. because when the world is so messed up, don't you want another? i spend so much time just living in these worlds,      just thinking. about trivial things      like: how come clouds get to be so high that it's like they're flying, when all they do is bring rain?      or: why do we spend so much time obsessing over the fact that we don't have much time at all? but i think that maybe in these worlds i make up, it's not so bad. sure, there are bad guys but when are there not? the thing is, in my world, i'm not one of those bad guys. i'm the one with the cape and the mask and i am the one      who saves the day.

revised riposte: know nothing of "love"
The Affair I fell in love with childhood, he wore a red cape made of polyester plaid, tiny stitches of lines circulated around his palm. He never wore a mask, his memories wore enough of one, a fog remnant of a dream, his home he’d never see again all along the river, led up to a lake. It didn’t matter anyway, a wedge upon two brick walls was a plaque – or a warning – a memorial, perhaps, but all succumbed to his pain, every inch crumbled to dust. That’s when I took his childhood away. I fell in love with memories.

I don’t think you understand, because I don’t, this wasn’t what I planned. So I’m wondering how you can understand, when I don’t. I won’t lose myself loving you, I won’t. You’ve got me feeling too many different things, got me contemplating cutting our tethered strings. Falling in love has me tripping over my own two feet? Maybe. All I know is I’m slipping face first into this tangled mess and now guilt eats at me as I slip from your arms half dressed in the mornings when all I want is to escape, wishing I was Wonder Woman with that red cape. I slip away, but it hurts- but I’ve seen it; my family, we’re cursed. Concerning love, we’ve had no luck I can’t lose you, so I’m labeling us a causal **** I hear you yelling now that you know my reasons, promising our love could survive even the coldest season. But how can he be so sure? Doubts plague me as I slip toward his front door, because love didn’t come with a brochure. I hear you figuring aloud that I don’t love you enough. You come to the conclusion, “if this is how you feel, then I’ll set you free” I got in my car, driving around till the clouds were dark and the clock said three. Your words had been like knives, but then I started thinking about my dad’s four wives. My brain’s all jumbled, it’s like there was one second left, I was on the one yard line, and I fumbled. Is the risk worth it? Could my heart even take the hit? When I got home, in the dark I saw you standing my heart was demanding that I make my way over to you but my brain said these feelings needed to be subdued. I heard you say “I love you too much to set you free” It was then when I looked in your eyes, love was all I could truly see. My scalp tingled in realization, as I floated toward you with some type of natural gravitation. My heart had already taken the risk, without permission and that’s when I mumbled my belated admission; “I love you too and I’ll take my chances,” My brain finally conceded to your romantic advances. But really, truth was, I’d been under an illusion because our love had always been a foregone conclusion.

We were boys, once. Our mother liked to dress us in tailored suits and leather shoes. Every Sunday morning. Ready bright and early for mass at 11. We'd sit in the classroom at the back of the old church hall. After mass. After the chatter of voices hushed down to whispers; virtuous gossip. Our teacher fed us images of hellfire and brimstone. *** and sin. Satan in a red cape and Halloween horns. He didn't always look like that. Oh, no. Mother said that he'd come out all dressed in a suit like mine. He'd be handsome! His voice would be a choir of one billion ****** souls and once you'd hear it, you'd never want it to stop. In my eight-year-old mind, I wondered what he did and what he felt when his own father cursed his name. Did he stare at his dad with his thousand-eyes? Did he protest? Did he laugh as he fell? In a cascade of feathers and blood. Maybe he was better off without him. He'd spend the rest of eternity trying to prove his father wrong. That he was worthy of his love: That he would be the only son to grieve for the mistake of humanity. The holy adversary. The one who would shout his love for The Lord until his throat cracked dry and his chest ached. He, who could see the suffering of his father's own creations. He, who tempted Eve and proved God wrong and we were flawed from the very beginning. Did he watch Eve eat the apple and savor every bite? He loved his father. Did he deserve it? I stopped going to church on my eighteenth birthday. What kind of parent would **** one son and praise the other? Who would let one son be nailed to a board and the other to rot in flames? Even as a child, I knew. Through every slap, scold and bruise. I would never bow.

Warning: The seagull flying over the Appalachians could not possibly be amused by the puzzles of an illegitimate composer and the skyscrapers climbed. 1. The skyscrapers were played by tall rocks a girl climbed when she couldn't remember if the cape she wore was made from steel or newspaper. 11. The newspaper they all read together that morning (girl, boy, king, etc) promised nothing but a fifty percent chance of dandelions terrorizing the bus stop. 2. The bus stop had since become a dealer corner and the sunset behind the mountains was blocked by the flipping hair of a lost boy. 7. The boy bought a toy for cheap -- it had a built-in laser, so she stole it to blast a whole hole in that guilt-ridden quilt hung over the four dollar love seat. 6. The love seat, she bought the day he went to maple -- the soap dispenser was broken, but she couldn't find anything new (that she knew) to wash her hands with. 5. The hands that handed her a hammer were covered in promotions, so she stole the motorcycle when they were watching the scarecrow going through electric-shock, disco therapy. 8. The therapy that she received from the parrot-king and his troupe of square roots was enough to make her not forget not regret the boy with feathers in his ears. 10. The ears she woke up with one morning were different in shape than before and the black fur she knew was growing before her eyes. 3. The eyes of the boy were wider than the nightly news station promised, and there wasn't really a difference between caves and boxes in a town that small. 4.   The town she arrived in didn't have a carpool lane or derby, so she had to take her pet goldfish to the river for his depressive state. 9. The river wasn't as flooded after a couple weeks of changing the tune on the jukebox she found way before the departure of her white gold pearls. 12. The pearls she wore for her coming-of-age were buried beneath a dirt mound when she promised herself to always insist on herself.

A Jersey girl came along and I started to think about angles of yaw needed to take flight, how the force of a kick skirts the delicate line between winning and losing. I’ve seen it all before, but not like this. Besides, seeing has nothing to do with believing. Corneas can't capture the vibrations of molecules or excitations of electrons. Champions defy biology, overcome gravity and I believe what goes up does not always come down. I want to know the point where focus takes control of epinephrine, who’s cascade is initiated by the roar of a crowd, but negatively regulated by doubt, when to take a long shot or build up slowly. I want to live the difference between accuracy and precision, taste the dirt, become painted with bruises and scorch my heart. A flag is heaviest when you carry it, lightest when it’s raised, worn as a cape and allowed to wave in the wind. Countries aren't build, they're created created denying muscles oxygen but allowing them to taste gold. It's ability to conduct electricity astounds me. It’s not about alchemy but transforming sweat into tears, fixing nitrogen, reducing triglycerides. Not all reactions need light, some create it. It’s only over when there’s not enough energy for activation.

Carli Lloyd is a Badass
Instead of a red cape is a plain T-shirt and shorts, Accompanied by a smile that can make a heart fly; Beneath all this is my superman. He may not be unbeatable in all sports, But he doesn't even have to try. Because no matter what, I'm still his biggest fan. Laser eyes and X-ray vision, Or even eyes that could see the future; These are nothing, compared to his eyes. Just staring at them gives me satisfaction Than staring at any other picture. Because in his eyes, I can see that love lies. His hands aren't bullet-proof; They can't stop a crashing plane, Nor can they bend gold. But my reasons are way over the roof, That even through a hurricane, It's still his hands I want to hold. Super strength or super speed, The ability to fly or to travel through time; All of these, he has none. But there really is no need; I'd still write him poems that rhyme Because his power on me, will never be gone. So who cares if he really isn't a superhero? Kryptonian or not, Still, on Earth he was sent; Not to be everyone's superman, But to be my one and only hero. He's the best weapon I've got. Lois Lane may have her own Clark Kent, But I have my own superman.

My Superman
I'm your personal superhero Who fights crime each day I patrol outside and watch the house While you are away I'll cheer you up when the day is grey Get you up, and out to play When days get mundane, lonely too I'll be there to be with you I may not wear a cape or tights But I will still help fight your fights If you're in trouble and lose you way I'm made to guide, to wait, to stay Then when the sun has gone down I'll make sure you never frown 'cuz I'm your personal superhero --- Your ever fluffy, one of a kind, loyal and tail wagging dog 2010

Personal Superhero
When she told me she loved me I didn't believe her. So i killed myself instead. A fairy came to me & whispered enticing secrets in my ear. He outlined a closet upstairs where I live alone inside my head. Tidal waves of white roses grow in & out my of spine. Suffocating the fishes prancing in a field of raving vines. Lunar Lullaby plays hopscotch in a cloud of flies. She licks cherry red ice pops & sings bird hymns to oak trees withering in the wuthering skies. Swarming dragon-lies fly in lakes upon Monet's canvas. There he paints a beauty of Thumbelina whose grave resides in the darkest corner of my empty heart. A red cape looms above & flutters without wings. My cave is growing vaster And so I sail amongst its seas. This Psychosis is no more wearing thin than Rigor Mortis can begin. I'll live sedentarily as a maid serving rotten apples to men chained as apes. A lotus will float on by down this bloodstream & into the night. As a crater on the moon your corpse died suddenly as when fruit bloom.

Ann & Nan
I'm like a bird, I want to fly away. Wrapped in a billowing yellow silk scarf which shines gold in the light of day. Perched on a tree branch, face the horizon. Hope and sunlight glimmer reflected in each determined eye which widens.   Ruffled feathers are my warm, windswept hair. I will leap into the sky, stretching high To glide through the air if I dare.    Music from Cape Town, a bird's song my ears spread their wings and feel the song's lift beneath and sing sweet as the horizon nears. I am a  bird and as I fly away wrapped in my billowing yellow silk scarf I shine gold in the light of day.
