"articles" poems
I reserved a table for the two of us at the only restaurant in the world that not only offers atmosphere and setting but tone and syntax as well. First some articles for appetizers. They're easiest on my pocket you know. An an, a the, and an a. Let's not even start on the punctuation, I'm treating you to a rather large meal. As large as the entire English language, now back to the articles. Sure these taste like lint but they still taste. Petit fours but there you are. Try to be disinterested or you'll put me off my food. Nouns now. My, what a variety. Bit meaty, eh? These have staying power. They taste like a bit of everywhere, and everyone, and everything. What's that? Surely they're not that bland. Maybe you need some seasoning. "Adjective" comes from the French for "to the word." So exotic aren't they? These really are fantastic. Exquisite, unique, zesty to say the least. You must admit, they make the meal worth it. I hope you're not allergic, I could have sworn I just had something "nutty." Oh, it had nuts "in it"? There must be some prepositions mixed in here. (I'm glad we're getting through these now, I've never been a big fan of them. When I was a kid, I would always push my prepositions to the end of my sentences. You just can't do that in a joint like this, it seems.) Ah finally. The verbs are served. Well-prepared it would seem. Yes, anything you can do to a verb they've done to these. Infinitives (too good to realistically be believed!), gerunds, and participles (No, not particles. But we did have some of those at the Japanese restaurant.) Fairly lean too, as I can't see any auxiliary fat. For some reason those adverbs (just to your left, under that thesaurus) really go well with this. Plus those adjectives from earlier, rather pleasantly. Now a brief selection of conjunctions, but don't ruin yourself. They're not a meal of themselves, just a link to... Oh! Look at those interjections. So delicate, so (Wow!) incisive. I told you to keep your appetite. Well, just try a little of this. Goodness, me! And then everyone proceeds to die from a split infinitive.

Honesty, Honestly?
Yesterday Was in the ecstasy Of realizing that We were Those two On earth Who liked bitter gourd curry Cooked with coconut milk …. Remember? Think it was In the sixth life. We were Two nascent bitter guards On the pandal Spread in the northern corner Of the farmland Belonging to a grandmother In a village in Mississippi Who used to attend to the orchards Sitting in a wheelchair. We had Watched earth And peeked At the sky Hanging from the same stalk The scar left From your tight clasp on my thigh Scared After spotting a double tailed pest Is still there. The pleasure of that pain Makes me tearful now. I am like the faces In the house of deceased Sobbing At times Bursting into tears The next moment Holding back After a while. Sometimes I am all the faces In the house of the dead Tears have Nothing to do with them. Sometimes The wedding house Will laugh and laugh Till its cheeks hurt. Just like you. My dear bitter guard, When will we Go back to that Pandal in Mississippi Where we had pulsated From a single stalk? Aren’t we the ones To offer obsequies To that grandmother Who looked after us With pots Of wholehearted love? Translator - Shyma P Shyma P : Works in Payyanur College, Payyanur. Letters to Violet -11
You put garbage in you get garbage out Health food fanatics know what I am talking about McDonalds, Arby’s and all those Buffets Sluggish citizens working Twelve to ten And to cover up their poor nutrition We soup up the brackish black brew Killing ourselves with more caffeine till We collapse You put garbage in you get garbage out Good teachers with years of experience Know what I am talking about The tweet, the face book Are superficial connections Binge watching brain-dead reality show people Speed reading unverified Articles Peer reviewed paper by academic writers Don’t get the press the talking heads With party lines and hateful sentiments get You put garbage in you get garbage out Any poet philosopher knows what I am talking about Flashing screens switching scenes while twitching teens Sit texting banal and ephemeral things No grand dreams but to be normal No expansion of the human potential Just block and block of picket fence prisons Dreams are limited to advertised fantasies

Garbage In Garbage Out
The antique shop, a cauldron where memories from far and near boil and froth, where chronological order didn't matter, time stood still, part real, as much magic, different lives from distant lands and time rolled in to one. Here they met, by chance,a man and a mysterious woman, with an eye for unusual, among what was  on display were things a conman would seek and also favorite stuff fit for  kings, artifacts and articles they must have used or hankered after. Past uses these museum pieces as baits for us, secretly preparing us to surrender before future, unkind and rude in mind; he changed roles as both con and king, there was a constant yes, she was the mate in each he couldn't take  eyes  off her, and she asked what he looks for, "The famous ****** quilt, that was to be mine twice before, I missed making it mine, narrowly every time" He wondered how did he make up that story so quick. "I can take you to the quilt, but it isn't here" she said not a bit  hesitant He was flabbergasted by the turn of events,as if a hidden scripted move shows the way They left by her car, she was eloquent about the effects of the ****** quilt. As they stood near the ****** quilt, in this room he thought was part of an antique shop, the place looked deserted, and her eyes shone when she suggestively said "Want to test the effect? Don't be disappointed" It wasn't. How could one  imagine, that the quilt can be so voluptuous. That secret shook him out of his shell, she had  nothing to do  with antique of any kind, just another visitor like him, and the quilt was an ingenious plot she hatched in keeping with my sudden flourish, the quilt, was a new addition in her bed patch worked in silk, light weight, it wasn't a blanket, but ****** in its very touch it was them, the moment of adventure they found had brought the rapture, who would regret?

Hands shaking as they clumsily undo Buttons, zippers, clasps Articles of clothing discarded Every word that passes between us Hangs suspended in the air Like dust motes Only larger, more distinct Each facet perfectly discernible By its own beholder's eye This was wrong I could feel it As my synapses fired Unconsciously guiding my hands down his back Arching mine It feels wrong But mostly it feels So right Now.

Here it goes again, Here it comes again, The articles about Psychopaths And the accusatory tone Twisting behaviors Twisting actions To sound toxic To sound dangerous To stamp a big red label on my skin, Screaming "AVOID THIS ONE AT ALL COSTS" While I sit and weep. But these articles Blog posts People fleeing from me Left and right Are lies, right? Tell me, please, Tell me, Someone? My anxiety and need to be reassured Roots from my PTSD, And my neediness and wants for attention Is normal for my upbringing, Right? And writing poem after poem About how much I care for you, And making playlists With songs in it That make me think of you, Is just a sign that I care, Right? I don't want to be A psychopath. I don't want to be A toxic person, I don't understand How telling someone you love them, Is bad? But these articles say that showering someone In constant attention and praise Means you're a psychopath. And these blog posts Are telling me that poems and gifts and music, All means you're selfish and unfeeling. But I don't want to be, I care so much, I love you so much. I'm afraid Of who I am.

Mnimalists uproot everything, Aiding natural entropy. Poets can do likewise. Omit redundancy; Scorn verbosity, Make words work Hard. Articles shunned, Prepositions abhorred; Conjunctions - need none. Edit, For our sake. Snip, Fit words together. Make words work Harder.

Your eyes smoulder with an imagination that is even bolder than I could have dreamed and colder than this toxic air we've been forced to breathe. You write poetry across your face to form a Gas mask of rythym, blocking out the hate yet sealing in ideas that might frustrate you. You hear the birds in the trees and you read the articles in every magazine, you take in information like the bees to the Queen. Your thoughts radiate an aura surrounding your entire body, you bleed history and pop culture facts, you need the written word like an addict needs their cigarette packs. You're empathetic to your core, you feel what everyone else does so you hide yourself in your mind until you can categorize the emotions from the lies. I know you can feel the love in your heart even through all the cracks, like a weathered and torn apart roadmap but you're taped together perfectly and even with a few wrong turns you always find your way back to me.

Emotions In Spectacular Fashions
It was 11 o'clock when they told me you were gone. 11 O'clock and I thought my dog had died or my dad's car had broken down or he lost his house maybe gotten sick and was in the hospital but it was at 11 o'clock that they told me you were gone. It's a feeling I'll never forget, one that I hope no one will have to encounter in their life. You were gone for a day before I knew. By a hand so familiar to you. A hand that had rubbed your stomach when it was upset trying to calm it, a hand that had made you soup when your nose was stuffed and sticky, a hand that created beautiful masterpieces no matter the canvas. You wrote a different kind of line, one with pink and purple and blue. They crossed and conjoined and streamlined across the world. You wrote a different kind of story. A story where you had it all together. A story where the main character never lost his smile even though he faced troubles unbeknownst to everyone. You painted a story of strength and virtue and people of all ages (young and old) hoped to be like you when they grew up. It was 11 o'clock and nothing could have prepared me for the news of your departure. All of the pain I've felt, all of the books I've read, news articles with similar stories, NOTHING could have prepared me for this one. Because this time the story was mine. Uncle Darrell, it was at 11 o'clock when they told me you left us. 11 o'clock is no longer a time I wish to be awake. 11 o'clock was on a Friday. I no longer like Friday's. At 11 o'clock I realized I hadn't been awarded the chance to see you one last time before it all came to a halt for you. At 11 O'clock I took in the fact that I will never see you again, nobody will. At 11 O'clock I found out I would not be making it to your wake. 11 O'clock has turned into both a time and a place since then. 11 O'clock is now a time when tears dare to fall from my eyes. 11 O'clock is now a place, it's a world without you in it. A place where people come to commemorate your life; where people come to celebrate the fact that someone as angelic as you once walked this earth. You were a blessing unto every person you have met and you will never be forgotten. I love you Uncle Darrell I hope that one day I will see you again.

I work for Jones & Co. You are likely somewhere down below, I have grown used to this unnatural height. Once, here, as a younger man, I read articles, working on cases just long enough to cultivate indifference. My first firm party, I was made to wear an ivy laurel. We were mingling on the penthouse deck, when a gust unceremoniously removed it from my head. Jones is a superstitious man, he has a dream-catcher above his office door. He designed a vaulted spiral staircase on our fifty-first floor. The one separates Jones from his company, the other, us from below. Five years of billing in six minute blocks, labyrinthine increments, Herculean costs. A kind of optic chiasma where the nerves cross and people get lost. B.E. Twain

I didn't find the time in the months I was around you To ever say, "Hello," Or learn your name. Angela S. I didn't know it until today. I didn't know that you were thirty-six until I read the articles about you. I knew that you were late to choir sometimes, And you wore shorts even when it was cold. I didn't know you lived in those apartments until the police were investigating them. My sister lived so close to there. I didn't find the time to know you, Angela S. But I found the time to judge you. You stood between seconds and you were a first. You didn't know your parts very well. I was annoyed. It's concert choir, no audition. I shouldn't have been so bothered. I'm sorry. That was the last time I saw you. I didn't know you had a son until after he found your body. I knew next to nothing about you until you were shot. We sang the same music for months.

Sitting in this dusty old attic listening to the shingles flapping in the wind I flip through a dog-eared book from my childhood. As I skip through the pages, I look up and notice the fine inlaid carpentry work of an old chest. Going over, leaving prints on the dusty floor, I lift the lid.  With reptilian slowness a lazy fat spider edges away. Inside this trove of ancient treasure, magnificent finds of days gone by. Mementos of a honeymoon, a parachute jump. Gramma's best biscuit recipe.  A photo of Sam the hound with spittle running down his jowls. A picture of a babe at his mother's ****** A permutation of these tucked away articles give meaning to a life well and truly lived.   Closing the pages of these treasures I wander away to watch my grandchildren make memories of their own.
