"acoustic" poems
"But what if we're wrong?" It was silent But her thoughts echoed around in my head as we laid on top of her pickup truck I swatted at the eighteenth mosquito chewing on my leg I don't want this to be love We were tangled up in the acoustic music they play on the radio on Sunday mornings She was trying to dream up something clever to write about And I was pretending I could learn to play guitar through osmosis, As if blending myself in with the harmonies, finding her in every lyric, and sheer willpower would give me wings or at least magic guitar hands She set the alarm, checked it over and over She was not going to be late for her first day I told her I'd be asleep when she got home, she told me she knew I told her to wake me up I wasn't looking for perfect Perfect really only applies in first year physics courses After that, we learn to fall in love with "rough around the edges" or "unique" or "unfinished" As if their life is a puzzle that we need to complete Just so you know, it isn't She bought me breakfast and dropped me off She used to tell me she loved me, but I know she didn't She does now, so she doesn't have to say it anymore When I said, "love," before, I didn't really mean it Not like I mean loving the garden on the balcony of her apartment or thunderstorms in May Even if I was a puzzle that she completed (and I'm not saying that I am), we didn't need any glue to fit perfectly

Lush is the quietude of the late Saturday afternoon, rich are the silencing sounds, as variegated as the shades of greens of a man-seeded, nature-patchworked lawn rays reveal some bright, some yellowed spots, all a potent color palette resting worry wearied eyes, untroubled by the gentle fading light's illumination, that soon will disappear and seal officially, another week gone by the lawn, acting as an ceiling acoustic tile, absorbing and reflecting the varied din of disharmonious natural sounds orchestrated, an ever present reminder      that true quiet is not the absence of noise I hear the chill in the air, insects debating vociferously their Saturday evening plans, the waves broom-swishing beach debris, pretending to be young parents putting away the children's toys for the eve the birds speak in Babel multitudes of tongues, chirps, whistles, clicks and clacks, then going strangely silent as if all were praying collectively the afternoon sabbath service, with an intensity of the silent devotion this moment, i cannot well enough communicate, this trump of light absolutes, and animal maybes, that are visually and aurally presented  in a living surround sound screen, Dolby, of course, all a plot of ease and gentility, in toto, sweet serenity here to cease, no more tinkering, leave well enough, plenty well enough

Lush is the quietude of the late Saturday afternoon
Slipping into my apron, Hungry in body and soul Humming as a song played... I grab my knife and chop-board Unsure of what to cook Strange inspirations possess me Filling me with ***** My kitchen becomes a stage In my hands- a plectrum and fretboard Silver utensils- my live audience!* As I play divine recipes Strumming master acoustic chords Chopping fresh, colorful vegetables. I dash to the remote, Punch "Repeat" and dash back on stage Landing on E♭ minor, Scaling impossible notes, I slice with razor-sharp plectrum, On onions and other root chords My fret arrayed with colors, Of spinach, lettuce, tomatoes Carrots, potatoes, olives Pepper, cabbage and cucumbers. I hear a thunder of applause As I ignite the cooker Butter sizzling in the hot pan A staccato of sharp notes, *Ready to modulate innocent vegetables Through spicy aromatic crescendos!* I fight hard to suppress a sneeze, No sneezing on-stage! Unprofessional! Multitudes of seconds rush by and… Voila!!! I stand for a moment Salivating, awed at my bravura! Wishing I could hang it on my wall Tis beautiful like art But I can’t eat this cake and have it! So I dig in… Heaven and earth kiss for a moment L U S C I O U S!!! Luckily, it didn’t taste nauseating Like my last attempt. No time for ceremonies I munch from pan to mouth Pausing for what may pass for a prayer, I relish every bite! Not that I’m a foodie or something, But nothing beats this combo- Of good food and soul music. And yes, *Music is indeed food to the soul!* I devour, in view- the next meal... © Raphael Uzor

the coffee shop on 1st street you told me my eyes were warm and belonged here I shrugged and gulped my coffee even though it burned my tongue the bookstore on 2nd street you told me my hands were made of love from the pages I've turned I glanced at you and nervously chewed my fingernails until it hurt the music store on 3rd street you told me my heart was an acoustic guitar that'd been misplayed I tripped over my shoelace and madly tied them up along with my heart the arcade on 4th street you told me my smile was worth all the time and effort because I deserved it I went to the bathroom and before I left I smiled in the mirrors a little too hard the beach off 5th street you asked me what I was so afraid of that kept holding me back I let the sand crumble between my fingers and told you that I was the sand and you were the waves

Your stars glimmers Belching, wrenching Exposing my ethnic aura A tape of heavenly bliss The acoustic rhythm Essentially subliminal Satiably insatiable Tracked traces covered Your tree branching out Railing through my bark My bosoms blossoming Tip-toe to my bareness Your entirely arousing A summation of beauty A firefly to enlighten Encased within to liven A body I hold twinkles Whistle magnetic presence Sprinkle my mind to entwine Assign your soul peacefully A might, a light at sight A whole in me,a one in you Pluck, nip, smash, trap, stash In dreamscapes and reality

~ Weeping hydrangeas spill sapphire tears falling, drenching grey scale gardens suspended, free flowing a mobile of distractions on tiny threads scattered above clouded daydreams Worded floating silent streams, spinning slowly, creating phrases on whirlwind petals, browned edges frame whispered wonderings sans answers upon somber breezes of yesterday’s questions or A cappella Hydrangeas send harmonic petals floating upon melodic wind chime breezes, suspended soft concerto clouds on love sonnet strings tuned to a spring day, as flowering symphonies, acoustic mobiles of emotion bloom within a garden of daffodils dreams in unison with lyrical compositions of nature’s enchanting song

Would you let me walk you back to school? And maybe later, teach me how to play pool?.. Oh maybe Friday if you're free, Play dinosaur mini golf with me? I know I'm uncool.. But I like who I am when i'm with you Wont you tell your bro to add me back Tell him I play guitar too but mostly when I'm sad.. Rock and roll is pretty cool, And Hip Hop was better when it was old school.. But I write acoustic tunes... Oh you know I do. Did you ever get the message that I never sent? You always said you could read me, Well did you figure I was upset When you didn't answer the phone All these days I've felt alone Just a little hollow and not okay.. But i'd still be here tomorrow, Despite yesterday. Oh I'd still love you tomorrow, Even if my heart breaks apart today.

I am literate in daydreams and letting my imagination rule my head I am literate in music where rationale can be abandoned. I am literate in procrastination, pushing away my mind-defying. I am literate in heartbreak which has been already over-endured. I am literate in lazy weekends spent with my sister and a remote. I am literate in creating; not masterpieces, but heart and soul pieces. I am literate in ramen noodle and green tea afternoons in sweatpants and sneakers with no makeup on. I am literate in moment-capturing and finding the right words to explain. I am literate in thunderstorms and dancing in between water droplets. I am literate in heart confessions over acoustic guitars and games of solitaire. I am literate in wanting and taking away from what I already have. I am literate in wanderlust and a wholehearted need to escape. I am literate in color-coordination and clothing arranging and bringing out all my best. I am literate in kissing with desperation and wanting to have it be effortless. I am literate in wasting my time in my head, in my heart, and in the clouds. I am literate in everything mentioned and so much that I can’t even say.

I walked into the guitar store simply desiring to change the strings not knowing at all what this lovely day would bring I sat my acoustic on the counter and picked out my string set Martin Acoustics, always trusted a purchase I never regret I sat and played on my Christmas present A baby blue Fender Strat into the shop walked My lady with a figure like an hourglass She said she was in the mood for some excitement I was always willing to provide I said but darling were in public she said I don't care, I want you with those deep blue eyes. so I snuck her into the repair shop surrounded by tools and parts I kissed her deeply and traced on her ample ******* a heart I slid her pants down and drank from her womanly cup I heard her moan and whimper as deeper and deeper I supped she decided to reciprocate and slid down my jeans as well I looked to make sure no one was coming because this would be hot I could tell She laid me on the table kissed up and down my neck I rolled her over so I was on top of my lover I stood proud like a soldier After the first ****** I kissed her and said you ride next she bounced on me so hard I felt more and more of her soft heated flesh So after our day in the guitar store was done she held onto my tool like a loaded gun she said this belongs to only one woman on this earth me and you better always be ready to fill me with your girth ;)

**I had dinner again at our favorite Japanese ramen restaurant I sat next to your fading presence and the lucky cat statue Had the usual ramen noodles, pork broth, spicy miso, and your favorite side dish Then got drunk off a pitcher, hot sake, and your absence A crowded room leafed over until I was the last one to leave I sat in my car out in the parking lot listening to your favorite acoustic song "I don't mind" Then clarity opened the passenger door sit and sat next to me I realized that night, during that moment That being alone wasn't too bad but I was still completely lost without you**

Guys with long hair have agendas. And if they don't, they're stoners and 'agenda' a really long word, man. Guys with long hair are the poetic types with acoustic guitars and incense in their dorm room and they hold their hair back with a pen behind their ear and they use it to write in a leather-bound journal about girls who smoke too much and have soft ***** so they can pick up more girls who smoke too much and have soft ***** Guys with long hair are the metalheads who sit in the back of class and use their hair to distract from the fact that they're wearing poor-quality ironic headphones that project Alice in Chains to everyone within a four-desk radius but no one's going to say anything because hey, that guy's a creep. Guys with long hair are the classical types that play expensive instruments and have beautiful eyes that you can't see very often and have to keep ponytail elastics on their wrists, their wrists that never stop moving, conducting, tapping, curling, because Chopin slows for no man, no matter how long his locks. And if you poured all these guys with long hair in a test tube and melted them until the agendas broke and forged and changed colors, you'd have him. I found him in a smoky sweet basement in a house where everyone belongs but no one should actually live. I braided his shoulder-brushing hair without asking and saw his smile like a chunk of snow the size of your high school falling off a mountain, fast and white, huge and more important than anything else around. I found him again in a different basement where only musicians belong. He invited me into the closet with the piano and it's like he asked me to crawl inside his head and hang out for a while. He casually mentioned his favorite angry bands while his fingers brushed keys in an order they seemed to know on their own, tendons and strings. He says things that deserve to be handwritten in leather-bound journals. He holds your wrist with one hand when you shake the other because people have become desensitized to handshakes and don't feel the human contact of it anymore. He hugs to the right because you're supposed to hug heart-to-heart. "People are going to judge based on what they see anyway. Might as well make sure they're right, sort of."

You’re my favorite pair of sunglasses; White rims, rose-colored lenses. Try you on, and the world just looks better for a while. The muddy construction sites, this massive concrete jungle, The blemish on my chin.   Each piece of trash on the sidewalk has a story. Wandering strangers don’t seem strange; Everything, and everyone, seems deliberate. No distance seems too great to run, No weight too heavy To be lifted.   Sappy acoustic love songs sound Like life’s most epic Anthems, In my car as I’m driving. It’s the most beautiful delirium; Every sight seen is a portrait, Every word heard is a song. Though at the close the day, That rose light will dwindle on the rims of my lenses, Turning the soft shade over my eyes to rigid shadow, So that then nothing at all can be seen, And all that is heard is hollow ambiance. With this I shed my glasses, To look upon an ordinary world, Until the next sunrise, when I will undoubtedly don you again.

(this one is about a piece of cloth) The said attire is not common wear no suit and tie or gown needing no further introductions or additional instructions Its layers are abstruse It is of certain quality of tension resembling clumsy bodies trying to meet and greet each other   talk about belonging to someone   Reserved and refined restricted they cannot rewind Ornamental is what they are And you          you are judgmental  Ready to look at the attire again? One layer got lit by a precedent match which led to an arson you could not even start that with the fire you drew up your leg Everyone is promised to someone who lives in another country, and will break their heart and turn them into a pillar of salt for looking back to the tragedy Forever drawn too impulsively to those Daria is not supposed to look at She touches them as often as possible Only few times she's been able stop   Those times retain a repetitive pulse, same in its essence but, alternating on the patters and pace I can see you are listening to me right now, I  should probably want that Listening is a beautiful thing, a blessing in disguise and acting on the details of your acoustic research  is a physical translation of affection Tell me that you are not unable to translate I at least need to feel you again Laugh at you even though our situation is dead serious I scrutinize the piece of cloth for any signs of damage You see I wouldn't want it to get ripped off anytime soon Although I'd gladly tear off the rest of your clothes next time I see you

She may be our metronome mother But when was rhythm first discovered? Did ancient nomads hear it in the sounds of walking? Did they like how it sounded over them talking? Did they view the melody As a felony? And start to sway their hips To the crack of whips? Maybe that wasn't good enough Maybe we needed more stuff So we started crossing swords To create more violent chords That interested us more Violence has a catchy hook That can't be found in a book But started with a ***** look Until our brain begins to cook And we learn to love the beat As the harmony depletes We take concert seats At a darkness feast There's an iambic pentameter In the middle eastern theater That sounds all too familiar The troubling treble Of mothers screaming While superpowers meddle And innocence is leaving The reaper is reaping To a situation heating Empathy fleeting Fascist seating Rhythm beating Our soundproof homes Create acoustic cones That our cries can't escape Taking the container's shape Filling our mind Until we're blind And only see political teams Instead of childhood dreams We fall into a rhythm Based on deadly decisions With lethal precision Like surgical incisions That don't make us healthy But support the wealthy Who whistle a different tune That will **** us all soon And as the world crumbles Their bellies still rumble Creating a disruptive bass Their music we must face With an impossible grace Or else we'll be replaced I hear instruments of percussion Causing concussions Deflecting discussions Making us harmfully dance So we'll have a fair chance Which seems wrong at first glance But it's actually a pragmatic trance Provided by Mister Rhythm Who carries misery with him

The acoustic guitar plays softly, in the background of a critiqued ball room as he made his entrance. The attention of the audience fell upon him; As he walked readily towards the dance floor, The melody of the flute and the rhythm of the bass guitar, Dramatized his beauty. The spectators in fear, but his passion so real, As I stared into his eyes, that made beauty felt unreal everything else that surrounded me disappeared. He focused his eyes on the dance floor they began to whisper; Who will he choose? Who has to leave now? He flashed his eyes upon the viewers that were once in shock, now in terror, but their ****** expression in awe. The apothegm states that he continually seeks for the one that would heal his disease but bound to the power of the earth’s forces, his determined, stunning eyes will never be able to reveal, the secret one that can heal. The bass drums play wildly as he shows the crowd his fury. The once stunned viewers now begin to panic, but I draw myself closer. Before I could reach him someone else got in the way. “I would like to die” was the words I know her to repeatedly say. He gently pushed himself away in anger. He looked around the ball room, and observed the reaction of the audience to his response. They’re now in astonishment. He then stopped and his focal point was clear. The piano and the cello played softly to become one with his voice. He said to me “let us dance.” I’m frightened, the majority of the onlookers left in a daze. My vision weakened before our dance began. He smiled, and as he looked upon my face all the instruments faded away. He said to me is this your last dance? Will you leave us tonight? I’m the kiss of death will you close your eyes forever or will you leave me in delight?”

I have seen pictures of beautiful places, They are just a taste. Reminding me of how little I've done. Is my life a waste? I want to see the geysers, In Yellowstone National Park. And walk along the Eastern Shore, With you after it gets dark. And I know there is a snowboard, That somewhere bears my name, And I have always wanted to go, To an NFL football game. I hear that Ireland is beautiful, What a sight to see. And I know there is a rustic place. Where I can write poetry. I would like to go see Mardi Gras, And maybe earn a bead or two. Listen to a great acoustic band, And sing a line or two. Hop aboard an airplane Grab the window seat. Just drive to a distant city, To see just who I'd meet. Swim naked in the ocean, Surf my way back in. Make love really crazily, And then do it again. Fall in love with the right one, Find a true soul-mate, I wish I could do it all right now, I don't want to wait.
