kissing the earth goodnight,
a smile lingers as I sleep in
black velvet twilight.

and tweezers the splinters out of my brain.

I killed the nightmare
fogging my eyes with ashy debris.
That creeping crawling darkness
slithering through my rib cage
chilling every vessel and clogging
every breath of a new dawn.
Grabbing it by the throat,
it thrashed and hissed as
its life blood dripped then gushed
under the squeezing pressure of my fist.
I killed my snaking nightmare

We plead; "can't we have a 'do over?'
Travel back and undo the clinging pain?

porous marrow,
the truth is carved and on display,
forever beyond our reach
