The silence
Ntando Ndlela Aug 23
Thoughts conjure  their  own tongues,
Uttering curses for a restless mind,
Doubt and regrets engage in meaningless debates,
These voices speak of terrors and fantasies,
Projections of a fourth dimension,
Lived more intimately than reality

silence is a danger to sanity,
In silence the tainted mind may wonder into deaths door,
Ideations sowing into the seams of a troubled soul,
These voices hiss,
Continuing the work their brethren in Eden sought

Matters
Ntando Ndlela Jul 18
Our love remakes the galaxies,
it makes us feel like Adam and Eve,
The heavens made you just for me,
That's why you're all that really matters,

I worship every curve you keep,
Sometimes it feels like blasphemy,
Truly you're a masterpiece,
That's why you're all that really matters,

I'll satiate your needs religiously,
Stay by you through calamities,
I hope to keep your heart at peace,
Because you're all that really matters,
To me.

Bearer
Ntando Ndlela Jun 22
I am a bearer of future generations,
They shall inherit our perspective,
for most things hold no true value,
May they not become slaves and  void of  virtues,
But be filled with love and find peace in the Gods they pray to,

Born
Ntando Ndlela Jun 22
I was formed from atoms in a gods womb,
Born to tame the sun and moon,
Born to master the arts of survival,
Born to remake the earth through knowledge and wisdom,
Born to roam the ground and the skies with blissful freedom,
Born to experience the power of  love, lust and evil,
Born to conquer beasts and wrestle with demons,
I was formed from atoms in gods womb,
Born to write sermons, poems and truth,
Born to live free, proudly black and true.

Letter to love
Love,
So many dreams that you have sold,
But i was afraid of losing faith,
Because there was a possibility
That you would save me before it was too late,

Love,
Ever since the first moment you caused me pain,
I realized that im the one to blame,
Ive been called "baby" so much that  I forgot  my own name,
It took pain to realize that I've lost my way,

Love,
These growing evils have made you feable,
We just don't understand you like our forefathers did,
To us you're just an emoji,
but them you were a symbol,

Love,
You have  endured time, ignorance and war,
we are slowly losing you as a norm,
it is in your absence  that evil is born,
Please stay and help us reform,

Help us

Sunshine
You are the luckiest girl alive,
I pray you see your own light,
Your tears sow love from the skys,
Know that He sees when you cry,
Liken these times to an eclipse passing by,
Can't wait to see your sunshine

Suicide considered,
Mortality immortalized,
A corruption in the code of life,
An invisible  plague borne for feable minds,
This awful confusion leading to man's most violent crime,
An Impure liberation for a jailed consciousness,

Suicide considered,
A freedom that holds no prospects,
Reality's lowest moment,
An action to end any further consequence,
A fantasy  the living will never comprehend,

Just be
Ntando Ndlela Apr 28
Freedom should be free,
Being a friend shouldnt have to end,
Relationships shouldn't sink,
Gratitude is the absence of attitude,
Hate will eat at your heart,
Health is giving yourself time to heal,
Forgiveness is something worth giving,
Beauty is when you allow yourself to just be,
Humanity  should come naturally to humans,
And love should just be love

I pray for you
Ntando Ndlela Apr 24
I stashed your heart at the highest pedestal,
So It can only be touched by the God I pray to,
I pray for you,

When things seem grim,
Your smile becomes their reaper,
Universe...please keep her,
I pray for you,

A poet once said
Ntando Ndlela Apr 16
A poet once said,
Don't think too much,

But  my afflictions are the author of my words,
So I replied and said  that thinking too much is what poets do,
Isnt ours the ability  to question  the meaning of simple things,

The poet said maybe that's what you do,
Some of us just simplify complex  moments to sentence or two,

So I replied and asked,
why do we try to put rhythms and create images for such simple matters?,

The poet said "its simply because they matter"

Is it wrong
Life feels like it either moves too fast or too slow,
You lack peace when your heart is too warm or too cold,
I see dead people,
We all just seem like lost and wondering souls,
Life feels easier  when you believe  that someone else is in control,
It's all in His hands now,
is it wrong if I feel like letting it all go

Me?
Me?
The universe  cultivated energy and dirt uniquely just for me,
The stars shifted approximately  30cm apart to make space for me,
this can't just be make believe
Why would  nature so diligently support my need to breathe,
Why does the earth rotate the cosmos just to give me time to sleep,
Was DNA really split between countless kings and queens just so I could be,
.. Me?

This Drug
Ntando Ndlela Mar 26
This Drug,
My cornerstone,
I'd rather live on the corner ******,
Than answer to despair on this office phone,
Just a few minutes  left before my mind starts to undress,
My sanity is a red pill,
It's the only thing that breaches my defense,
I need to take this drug,
Before the pain matures and takes its first steps,
I'm already on the edge,
No!
I'm not depressed,
I am not depressed!
Whats your drug?

Death
Ntando Ndlela Mar 19
The feeling of dying,
freedom from crying,
Released from trying,
No more sorrows prying,
Sanity goes unchecked,
The eyes won't drown in tears like the sun does when it sets,
For death is violent and cursed,
Yet more peaceful than birth

The villain
Ntando Ndlela Mar 19
The Villain
A normal civilian,
A soldier in the war again innocence,
An open minded critic of morals and tradition,
A seeker of glory only obtained by those without shame,
An optimistic individual with no plans for love, just blueprints for unconditional pain,

The villain,
An object that those who do nothing use to avoid the blame.

I was good I swear,
He was mistaken,
Why was my life taken,
I didn't look anything like that man he was ordered to take in,
Black male wasnt my only description,

I did everything by the book,
Not a sinner, not a crook,
I settled for less than I should,
I prayed like twice to be saved,
In that book it said He paid the price for our ways,
Was the price too high for slaves,
I practiced obedience so I could avoid this plague,
I prayed every day and stayed out of troubles way,

why should I die praying for mercy,
Was my skin too dark in this dark world for you to see me from up there,
There are too many of us who die this way,
I hope you still have room to spare,
Because  I know I was good,
I was good I swear...

A life lesson for a daughter
Ntando Ndlela Jun 2020
She has to look both ways when she crosses the street,
She has to look both ways when she walks down the street,
She has to look both ways when she walks in her feet,
She has to look both ways when her friends want to meet,
She has to look both ways when her dress doesn't cover her knees,
She has to look both ways when
Her partner isn't pleased,
She has to look both ways when she feels tired and weak,
She has to look both ways when she drugged and asleep,
She has to look both ways when her uber has reached,
She has to look both ways when her pastor has a private sermon to preach,
She has to look both ways when they say she dresses like a freak,
She has to look both ways because she wanted that weave and that trip over seas,
She has to look both ways when she is alone with you and even when she's  with me,
She has to look both ways when her mother is a way,
She has to look both ways when an acquaintance begs her to stay,
She has to look both ways even after her wedding day,
She has to look both ways because death is bias these days.
I tell her to look both ways because her journey may never be safe.

I wait
Ntando Ndlela Jun 2020
I wait
I wait  for change
I wait for a reality where butterflies and humming birds embrace the impoverished African child covered with flies,
For their mothers milk to be as rich with life as  the earth they own,
For the child to know the sweet sounds of lullabies from a voice that doesn’t sound desperate to cry

I wait for mercy
Where we could thrive ,
There are too many of us for us be labeled a minority,
Mercy for us who sleep in our color, walk our color.
No light at the  end of the tunnel, just more of our color,
Our warriors are captured,
Captured  in money ,drugs and seductive whispers ,
They need not repent to white gods but to their mothers and sisters.

— The End —
