Sometimes I trust my instinct,
but it tells me to do things in ways
that no one dares
It can implore me there,
to take paths no one walks

I fear the fresh footsteps I make
on the new brick road
I'm a social animal, a human;
doing what others do seems the right
thing to do

Once you're a bit different, society condemns
They raise an eyebrow, they don't give
their consent;
But I've seen great people do great things
Because they had faith in their instincts.

They have the drive to keep going,
To try and even fail.
I'd very much like to do the same,
At least I have real
control over my own doings.

If I succeed, I have only my instincts to celebrate.
If I fail, I have only my flaws to blame.
Everything under my possession,
Ne te quaesiveris extra, as they say
It's your life to do, your life to bear.

The sun has just risen
He awakens another day

Stop selling me insurance
that I cannot pay

His posture stiffens,
getting ready for daily commute

Another round he goes
of that nightmarish brute

that he has to see
Everyday at his job

The cycle keeps going on
Until the day his heart stops

But before that, nothing obstructs the decree
He keeps to the routine line

Before the law, no individual rises
Work is the only sign

Get out of the system, before
its too late;

When the darkness consumes you
that will be your last fate.

I'll never be happier
than when I'm on the road.

A bit like Kerouac,
not trying to run away.
Just want to be free
like the river.
The mere thought makes me shiver.
Not knowing.
That's the rush.
Where will I sleep tonight?
Where will I go tomorrow?
It's anyone's guess,
and I like it that way.

I'm not running from you,
I'm running from me,
to a better version of myself.
You don't need to get it,
just accept it.

Wind in my hair,
smoke in my hand,
but no longer over my eyes.
These highs
don't go any higher.

Don't agonize over me,
just let me roam free.
It's where I'm meant to be,
can't you see?

He lost his job yesterday
But the bills, they just kept comin'

I feel young recently
But time itself, it just kept movin'

She lost her beloved
But the memories, they just kept emergin'

I saw my ex-lover
But when we laid eyes, we just kept goin'

He met his lost friend
But when he tried to talk, he just kept leavin'

The dog dropped its treat in the river
But when it tried to get it, it just kept driftin'

The poem tried to end itself
But when it reached here, it just kept goin'

The poet tried to find himself
But he failed, he just kept writin'

The couplets tried to find reason
But alas, continuation just kept happenin'

Time must go on, even if we chose to stay
But time is impartial. It just keeps goin'
We are insignificant creatures of this world and a slave to things like time and change. We may get taken aback by negative experiences, suffer through them and despair about them, but people move on. We may enjoy happiness and great moments, but time moves on.
But what power we have, is to write about it. And keep time inside of our writings. And to express our feelings about it.

My hunger escalates
Like the pooch that wanders the streets
Scavenging for the desired scent of food
To plaster the sting of a Belladonna
That lingers in the stomach

The affliction intensifies
I try to move my enfeebled limbs
But to no avail; they remain stale
Like parts of a run-down rusted machine
Which only screeches when moved

My thirst deepens
Like my spirit was siphoned away
My throat shrivels and dries
Clearing it is like rubbing sandpaper
I reach desperately for it

I caught it.
Was it satisfying? It sure was!
I can almost taste it, sweet succulent success
It sated my fervour but now I'm not sure
Because it leaves me wanting more.
I'd like to leave the subject matter at hand open-ended. This is perhaps about an addiction, a desire or a particular hunger. I'll leave it to you to think about it whichever way you'd like - literal or metaphorical.

Thank you for reading my work. It's been a while since I wrote. I have upcoming exams and also a little bit of a writer's block. I took a particularly long time to finish this one.
