When chasing the moon,
once in a great while we find true love.

Giving up...
Giving up anything for my friends sake; There is no loss here
Only my love’s gain and the winds of the soul
blow stronger.
Advise and reminder to myself;
All men have faults and grieve about what was done.
Time will not excuse sins for more than what they are.
This place we live in is pardon and advocate enough.
All things here are corrupt and are magnified in the mind and become monsters.
Do not grieve for what was done.
This is a worthless task of idle grieving with time that spoils in satire and wrinkles upon love’s face.
The eyeless rage wills the the wind to blow
even from earth to sea that things might change
the march of time and feed the starving soul.
Yet time will bid and catch the fretful wind that will take all.
I Feel the spirits of love and dear people i have met,
remembered with kindness;
these love fill rooms of my heart.

Loved ones, illuminate by memories gone by
People love and live here with no breath
shared only by words...thoughts  their torch burned out;
Yield to death... but only a good night and sleep.
Love, like sunlight through
the windows of my heart does shine
with delight.  My eye of
want for your beauty that love has made
becomes a vision hanging forever
in my memory, draped in love and
framed in poetically written verse.
Richard Barnes Nov 2019
No flattery as the heart writes these verses with bitter tears,
And calls upon the darkness, emptiness,

Filled with demons, haunting spaces to
Shed light on selfish beliefs that make us all a lie.

Speak to me, my heart; Make me feel your miserable madding words.

The common ground of truth; perfection is not reality, not being understood, that makes a poet;
And without insanity I would die.

My child,
Richard Barnes Nov 2019
My child, i see images of people i have loved in you.
You are my trophy of love and
You are never any farther away from me
than my closed eyes
in the most pleasant dream.

Love letter to myself
Richard Barnes Oct 2019
I love this fool. Maybe i am a bad actor and full of fears,
but please love this broken soul with loving tears.
Richard Barnes Oct 2019
The gods of fate made seasons of gladness
and sorrow and draws no lines carelessly
in this story of concealed faults.
Bending love to cover weakness.
All for nothing.
The end is truth and beauty dies.
Richard Barnes Oct 2019
Scars of a 66 year old woman, that i love much.
Sexually abused much of her life
but she has grown much in the last 25 years
Scars still hurt, the abuse has stopped but not
the mental struggle of trying justify the unjust violation
of her person.

Thespian
Richard Barnes Oct 2019
I am an old man stricken with old age,
ready to exit this earthly stage.
Let me amuse you with a final trick...
disappearing, transforming final act
and become who I really am...
maybe a gentle breeze... a soft flickering light,
a twinkling eye that make someone laugh with delight?

I will be no more what I was,
a song or a poem in your heart?
I will be greater because... i am no more.
Richard Barnes Oct 2019
My eyes shout love through silent thoughts,
Master mistress of my passion,
Let me stir the thoughts of your beauty
with my heart’s pen in fine line of loving thoughts.

Perhaps it is true, only in loves eyes
will these words say more to your heart
than I can express.
My love is silent and true; Dictated eloquently
from heart and soul for you to hear with your eyes, to feel
loves spirit move with mine. i am a soul so tortured
relieved only by your presents.

A poet’s tears...
Richard Barnes Oct 2019
A poet’s tears, the number equals the number of crack in the heart.
and tears that remember and represent loves lost.
The heart glances backward with pain, emptiness not filled;
Painted with the thought... You did not care.

Time is a great teacher.
Richard Barnes Sep 2019
Time is a great teacher.
It's too bad it kills all its students.
Richard Barnes Sep 2019
Love expressed through the heart’s pen
empties my soul on yellowed paper,
not just lines of ink, but living as blood
through my veins that validates this feeling
of madding unrest as it
expresses love’s feeling for you.
By my passionate heart; You devour all of me.

Single Tear
Richard Barnes Sep 2019
The force of an ocean wave you can hear,

but not the cries of a single tear?

The heart’s own expression... the tear.

A wet mark, a streak, a stain, the only witness here.

A drop of water running from pain,

But does the pain of a heart’s many tears link together

to drive the oceans waves we hear?

If so, then voice my pain, single tear...

force the waves against the shore
and
in not a tender way give voice
to
the heart’s small, single tear.
Richard Barnes Sep 2019
My written words are a sin to your glory
and the silent beauty in your fair smile.
By theses words, i owe a poet’s debt
not to make false what is beyond my words
to write by coping poorly what nature’s hand has made.

But write only what love can express
in these poor words...
Words that are silent before your beauty.

For my words come up short of devising your
praise. Your beauty is beyond my words, maybe to be
read only in the silence that lives in my soul.

You are the beauty...
Richard Barnes Sep 2019
You are the beauty that feeds my very soul.
My finest rarest jewel and love makes you shine
even in brightest day.
Richard Barnes Sep 2019
The eternal  invention of life
to expresses tears from loving eyes and
gives light to the pain which is mine.
There is no greater subject that
my muse can pour into verse.

The beautiful summer
Richard Barnes Aug 2019
The beautiful summer should not be the conquest
of winters ragged hand to steal this treasure
and collect this willing loan with usury;
Leaving to posterity what is much too valuable to life.
Mortals still look upon summer's beauty
as feeble age decays into winter’s night
with colors to dazzle even King Solomon’s court.
Leaving us the promise,
I will return.

Write of sweet thought ...
Richard Barnes Aug 2019
Write of sweet thought that presents things past
when love converted me from this frown and
made me desert seasons of heavy burdens and
the tears that morn love we knew then and now.
Old regrets rise again and wet the eye for
love hidden from sight... it does renew our grief
(like we never paid these debts before),
but love taught  my tattered soul to hold you near...
always near…

with love eternally yours.
Richard Barnes Aug 2019
Even though I see lines of my age
and the end of my days.
For as long as we are together I shall not age.
All the beauty that i see covers you... love in a haze.
My words can not be spoken from my heart,
but felt gentle like morning dew.
Bearing your heart to me and i to you.
with love eternally yours.
Richard Barnes Aug 2019
My confession decays into your sweet
love more than my tongue can express.
Perhaps written on heaven’s scrolls are more eloquently
scripted verse than i could express even
from the depths of my being.
Love is scripted softly in
The silence of the heart’s book
written in love’s fine lines.

Shadow of a man;
Richard Barnes Aug 2019
Shadow of a man; A *******, so full of pain,
self pity that pledges hate to all around.
Your calamity doesn’t feed your brother’s empty
stomach or dry the widow’s eyes.

Unfairly lash out at this unseen enemy and add to
this sea of trouble. The only gain is the devil’s greedy
empty soul and your hallowed look to your own death.

Shadow of a man; Pain is the price of all that lives pay,
the nature of human heart, soul... Love, the only cure
and please love your worst enemy... Yourself.
To a man i once met.
Richard Barnes Aug 2019
I regret my flaws and wasted time,
The thing i wanted but never could find.
It’s only a carcass stained with silken tears of wasted
usury, this regret, tear to tear and  time to time
True ******* with a doubled voice,
Sorrows and losses to end; Where is my heart’s
forgiveness to calm the stormy world of loss and shame?
A simple register of lies, the false hope, false witness to bear
This ink be ****** with discontent.

Am i cured only by death?
Richard Barnes Aug 2019
Am i cured only by death?...

What price would you have me pay?...

Please, harvest my bones when i am dead
and sell them for a penny!...

The soul once freed does not belong to thee,

not even the ******* or ***** so greedy...

and we who were sold for the worthless tokens
on the floor
into a life of slavery.

Liberate me death!... for no man shall rule once gone!
"

Slave," the master's cry "take this poison so I can enjoy the good that is in this place... Death is so painless"
"Please! support my throne of power." Ha!...

Look at the base of your thrown supported on
backs of dead flesh so rotten...

Listen to the starving poor before they die...

”Give me rags... crumbs from your table...

must I beg until I am old and feeble?”

The greedy become the tears of the poor.

Kindness gone, only hollow starving men remain...
Richard Barnes Jul 2019
Since our life and beauty dies as fast
as we watch others grow.
We can only pass traces of ourselves,
the pieces, splinters of love to the new.
These pieces will out live all
despite the wrongs of time.

A drop of water
Richard Barnes May 2019
A drop of water is meaningless until it becomes a tear,

Love,  just a word until it comes from the heart so dear
Richard Barnes Apr 2019
Words fill a story as a ship under full sail
bound by nothing, gliding free or with 7 league boots
where spirits are set free. Woven words into great verse
carried with stories across an uncharted sea...
Through the gossamer mists of imagination...
come sail with me.
Richard Barnes Apr 2019
My heart has painted the beauty of your soul.
An artist that draws wonder to the canvas of the mind
and lends truth to love’s beauty. Love that delights my being.
Painting my love brings such wealth and vivid color.
A masterpiece robbed only of its poverty...
Richard Barnes Mar 2019
I will always write of this argument
between you and my love.
Saying what has already been said
trying to make old words fresh, new.
The meaning is the same.
My heart is still saying
what is already been said.
A very simple ‘I love you.’

Why do we abuse
Richard Barnes Mar 2019
Why do we abuse what nature lends free
but we give back nothing.
To this pointless abuse, there is a
tragic end.
Richard Barnes Mar 2019
Waves and minutes hasten to their end.
Childhood crawls to maturity and then ends
Times gifts with ragged hands gives and removes
but not the treasures life has stored,
this summed up in one word; love.

Sun, moon and golden candles hung in midair
are but ornaments used by heavens muse
to paint true love and all things rare.
My love does stir my vice to compare
painted words to love and
these candles hung in midair.
Richard Barnes Feb 2019
You are the grave where my love lives.
Removed from sight and hidden in you.
These are the poor lines of a deceased lover.
Assumed dead but the dull substance of my thoughts
split with my passionate desire and covered
with tears that are stolen from the heart by love’s own thief.

Still love grows with age and beauty that only the heart can see.

Stairs into an empty room..
Ghosts swept up with dust by a broom.
Dreams once smiled... now wear a frown.
My love so dear is lost...
never to come home or be found.

Tears, regret, pain and fear all await…
The knock, the voice of greeting...
That will never come to my ears.
The great Emptiness in my heart... if I fell in
Would I find this love I so miss within?
To StarBG loss is never easy.

Richard Barnes Jan 2019
The stars i know do not speak of judgment,
good or evil, plagues, famine nor to say that
great men will do well or fail.
They speak of constant beauty
and all together say something awesome.

Your sorrow is expressed

Words written in silken letters of brine.
By reading this message of sorrow and pain they contain; Please
Let me wipe these letters from your face with forgiveness.

Leaves chased by the wind
Richard Barnes Nov 2018
Leaves chased by the wind like children at play.
A life so free, a rustling sound
of laughter at play. Leaves running in directions
this way and that, chase, tag you’re it,
play a game, hide and seek or watch, i can fly;

Wind and leaves, my muse of childhood's play.

Insomnia
Richard Barnes Nov 2018
Insomnia
Day’s torture is not eased at night
but magnified 100 fold by my sorrows and grief.
These enemies bare fists to each other
and to me in endless assault. i find no rest.
Lulls in my battle are just clouds by day and
twinkling dust of stars by night.
My wish; to peacefully fall asleep
but my oppressors battle on day and night.
To my friend who can't sleep.
Richard Barnes Oct 2018
Your kindness and your alchemy which changed
my heart’s darkness to this golden light of your
lovely smile and fair eyes.
When i travel from you,
i feel the desertion of my own soul,
with no coat, naked to nature cold rain.
Yes, cursed, until i return to you; my heart longs for you;
My love finishes with my silken pellets of brine
that celebrate your beauty and warm heart.
