A Slow Heyoka
They said that it would rain today
but for some reason when it didn’t

I was strangely disappointed.
Nevertheless, my jealousy pursued

like a jewel in the nightlight.
Revelling, repulsive, catastrophic.

The earth opened up and all the flowers fell inside.
They mixed with all the tar and soot and rust and then

made us sigh in awe.

In awe of how quickly a tough decision can be made
on our fates.

Suddenly, abruptly, snapping shut, an elastic
band on the door of the future.
Part of a collaborative project at a local writing retreat I attend. Its not all mine. Can you guess which parts are?

as a curse,
and my curse as a gift.

Some people eat dreams

for
breakfast

and
lunch

and
dinner

and it's not even because
they can't afford food

Grief is the wing of my depression
lifting me lowly higher
All the better see what was
and chart a path towards what will be.

Bee
she was the moon
radiating the night sky
and dancing among the stars

you were the darkness
the shadow that waxed and waned
through the phases of her life

she grew to believe
that your presence
is what made her whole

but like the full moon
she shone brightest
without you
