Maybe we won't always be together
Maybe I'll only think of you very late at night
Just before traversing into my dreams
Keeping you close to my imagination
But away from my every reality

Maybe I'll only hear your voice
From your old audio notes;
Maybe I'll memorize every word
And answer all the questions
That were left unanswered

Maybe I'll only ever see you
Ordering your coffee every wednesday
At the café by the intersection
Maybe I'll smile and wave
And then we go back to being strangers

The night sky is empty tonight
There's not a star to remember you by
and the clouds threaten to burst
before my tears recall the last time I saw you

The wind won't stop taking me back
to the morning fights and our evening talks
and I never needed a jacket before
to walk to the bench in the park
with our names on it

These are not the nights I remember;
there were always the stars and your laugh
your stories and my apologies

The warmth of your hand around mine
is replaced by the chill of the approaching winter
and I'm only now realizing
that our love only lasted a season

Thoughts of you
I cannot consign to words
The day we met,
The nights I want to forget
You were the fire that
Turned me into ash
I was a dream
That never came true
And as I watched you slip away
Before my eyes
Far, far away from my reach
That I realized,
I couldn’t keep something that
Wasn’t meant for me
But in my heart
I prayed for you to stay
And on a rainy day,
We did finally fade away
