I can write anywhere —
I can write it on a train,
I can write it on a plane,
I can write it on the back of a bar coaster,
trampoline and while my honey crumpet’s roasting,
I can write in the sun*,
I can write it in a shopping mall, that’s sure fun!
I write in my mind while walking,
I will even create a poetry note while talking.
I like the Holy Spirit’s prompting,
And seasons changing topping.
I have written about the rain,
But now I am writing in it all the same.
I am mastering all conditions,
To be ready to write any and many renditions.
As such, I don’t think there is anywhere I can’t write and bare…

I lie here,
Outside,
On my front lawn,
Exposing myself to the sun —
To slowly and gently,
Tan up, acclimatise,
The powerful UV rays
In the hope
to not get burnt,
During the low 40s;
Summer days.
Is it working?
We’ll see…
Ants crawl, butterflies float
And the red wattlebird sings
musically.
Time to roll over,
sauntering —

Purple skies delight mine eyes,
Transfixed with breathless wonder —
Absorbing the pull of the orb as the sun resets,
That moment only lingers as I ponder.

our outside heat
turned the cold water
tap hot, ssssteaming hot,
and as I stood under
the falling drops
I sauntered through
the wet heat with no gain, in pain,
forever seeking
cooler rain —

Wisdom comes after the fact —
But it can be drawn now in the present.
Compassionate jewels crown my head,
Trusting You, despite my intent, makes my heart ruby red, without lament.

There's something satisfying
About enjoying the afternoon sun
With a lime and whiskey, drinking
And reading prolific, piquant poetry by everyone!
Present in the moment, chomping and crooning...

Down here by the Murray River,
where life swims all around;
above and beneath the surface,
in this heat, everything flows —
Beers, BBQs, budgie smugglers and babes in bikinis,
memories bobbing above ground
capturing freedom; post-pandemic and pre-celebrations.
Down by the Murray River,
watching things flow safely and soundly,
birthing new possibilities:
boyfriends, babies, businesses and brews?!
Endless possibilities abound,
prophecies realised; salvation.
Down by the Murray River,
with nature, our souls sing loudly,
simplicity is possible,
trusting and enjoying,
everything is allowed.

I ain't living in squalla
But supernatural, techno colour;
Back here on my wooden deck,
I throw back a whiskey, with lime, check √
I hear a banjo in the back of my mind,
And smell fire burning in time.
Recipe books surround and cake rests on my outdoor table,
Country living could very well be it's label...
But I see it as "God’s waiting room" —
Mowers murmur in neighbours' lawns,
Buzzing bees and billowy butterflies
circumnavigate newly planted trees,
make me yawn like a pawn.
In these moments I lean back and let my soul bloom.

The wind howls, dogs bark teeth bared, in gnarling conflict.
The trees lash and birds, carried by the powerful wind, do squawk.
Leaves litter, leaving a traffic-light rainbow;
Rain gnashes, Jackson ******* esque, superseding my lawn with floodwater —
I snap oak tree branches that overhang the porch cocooning my home once again.
Nature, you ***** You’re jealous when I rest.

The quintessential Aussie experience:
A meat pie with tomato sauce
in one hand and a cold beer in the other
At the Aussie Rules Football finals with your brother
And every man and his dog.
Cheers crooned from the crowd,
‘Carn the Lions! ‘Carn the Swanies!
'Carn the pies! ‘Carn the doggies!
Which way will it go,
No one knows.
That's the thrill, that's the chase,
That's what it means to be Aussie in case!

Baths outside —
It's a country thing...
After a hard day’s work
of rounding cattle, shovelling steamy ****
hoeing weeds, woe, fixing fences fast fit
and grounding the grass, you’ll mantle it;
the horses and red-hot stamp them with bit...
You may break for brunch,
coffee (necessity!) and a bite to eat,
But then it’s back on your feet.
For more jobs to greet...
When the singe-worthy sun starts setting,
slipping behind the slopes, staged in the set background,
as on 'McLeod's Daughters' and ‘Yellowstone’ found—
You throw off your clothes and get right in, ohhh sounds (insert)
to the outside bath,
And soak off the grime from your bones, worn out.
Sip an icy-cold beer or shot a wild whiskey, with relieving cheer!
"ahhhhhhhhhhhh!"

When you see poetry
Everywhere and in everything,
It’s pertinent to stop stymying.
And from time-to-time take a 'poetry walkabout' —
"Time," when you put down the pen,
leave the paper on the tree,
and open your eyes to see,
the magnificent moments in the ordinary billabong or a good ol’ singabout,
Where you let your insides out,
in a painting, in a workout, in a cook-up,
in a stitch up, bare feet soiled, and run like Phar Lap*,
return breathless with glee, have a cuppa, and then peruse the words you’ve borrowed —
With new eyes,
re-tuned ears and spirit,
love returns, more spit and grit, now without the sh*t,
The joy of untangling ideas is re-hallowed.

indigenous folklore
giving rise to our fears more —
putting bones on the boogie man,

Everytime I step into the secret garden,
An ominous sound greats me;
And upon hearing that shrill,
shriek or strangled-inspired sound yet to be determined —
My skin protrudes six-feet,
My heart skips a beat,
And my survival-system* screams keep
Still. What is the origin of that god-awful sound?
Is it a snake?
Is it a bat or a gnat?
A brushtail possum or cute koala with a sneaky sqwak,
Or is it a relative of the lizard from my garden playing skat?!
In this "secret" garden
good and evil battle,
In sounds,
Relying on our vivid,
Hyper-sensitive,
And highly traumatised imaginations
making us livid enough to stay away!

After the quiet, gentle rain,
in the stark, dark of the morn,
The birds:
Noisy Miners,
Crimson Rosellas,
and a Rainbow Lorikeet
or two...
to name
but a few,
Now, are trying desperately insane,
to out “squawk” each other,
survival of the fittest esq; Hitchcock forlorn —

I drenched my sorrows neat,
on the veranda in this stifling heat,
while the rest of ‘Stralia’s dying, trying to fight bushfires, floods, and other catastrophes —
I sat there flipping pages in cookbooks, sweet,
where I dreamt of all the delicious morsels I’d eat,
the pages torn, and I’d sworn I would complete,
One of those meals - with ingredients I simply couldn’t keep;
anchovies, patté, and fish eggs are no such treats,
but dream, I do of the alter-me in the 1950’s fulfilling society’s beat...

I see the three gardenia bushes in my front garden,
Each stretching to meet the sun-filled rays,
Greeting me with a kiss this morning,
amongst the smoky haze.
As they grow and grow and grow galore,
Shielding me from the outside’s conjure;
Hidden here, 'hind this fragrant wall,
I smile and praise God that I have one day more —

The cows and sheep.
They lined the street as the sun set on Violet Town.
Reminiscent of a 21-gun salute.
You felt the Spirit hover in this cute little nook of mound.
Beyond the town
Rolly Hills surround.
Making it a playground for many;
The black-faced cuckooshrike sound!
Are there any other towns
Of colour?
Orange! Tweed Heads?! Can you name any more?
Curious about how we name things
And do their names prophetically claim their tread, galore?!

The morning air was thick: stifling and hot;
The few fair-weather flies floated sick, atop.
And the tetrarch-tall trees - gigantic gums - gave
Jagged shade, tiger stripes
on my skin they made,
natural ink!
I, became one-with-nature,
romantic?
