My sister and I were hiking,
air crisp, birds humming endlessly.
Then you rode by,
and for a moment, I thought
my eyes were lying to me.
It was really you.
My cheeks trembled from within,
my ridiculous face refusing to stop
the full-on crush smile.
You rode and stopped before me—
a tiny gesture,
stupid, completely pointless,
but somehow impressive anyway.
You said hi, then left.
I stared until I couldn’t see you,
my sister tapping her fingers impatiently,
trying to yank me back to reality.
The bike, the blush, my ridiculous daydreams—
all of it completely absurd.
I pictured myself flying behind you,
holding your waist,
like I might lose you in the next second.
And yet…
in all that silly chaos,
my heart discovered
how deeply it could love
even for a few ridiculous, glorious minutes.
