#superhero
O CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!!
Today I saw, oh, quite the sight,
A man on a pole, dressed in black-tight.
Crowds gathered, police gave a shout,
“What’s your name? What’s this about?”
He stood tall, his voice so deep,
“I am Batman,” made the crowd leap.
A silence fell, then laughter grew,
Till another yelled, “I’m Batman too!”
Each man then puffed their chest in pride,
“I’m the hero,” they all replied.
From pole to street, the claim was grand,
Each one a savior of this land.
Yet as the scene turned to delight,
We all forgot the true dark knight.
For Batman isn’t just a name—
It’s every man’s secret, heroic claim.

Seven years old
I’m playing outside
A girl I’ve been next door to for two years
Wears a cape like mine
Red
Red like the blood that screams
As it desperately tries to force its way to my brain
A metal slide I used to have
Holds my cape prisoner
Struggling dreams of if it would look like I was flying
If only it flew up and caught the wind
Instead of sink down and grasp my neck
Her mouth is open
Tears in her eyes
I can’t hear her screams
Over the helpless gasping of mine
As vision begins to fade a silver flash escapes the backdoor
My grandma darts down the stairs
Eyelids descend like time in an hourglass
My body rises to the heavens
I think this is it
“Grandma?”

If one man stands that can't be defeated,
it's Um Pow! Um Pow!
Even with his hands tied to both his feet,
it's Um Pow! Um Pow -
He battled many men in a great big war,
and now he's even stronger than ever before!
If one man stands that can't be beaten,
it's Um Pow! Um Pow!
CRASH BAM BOOM SPLAT BING BANG WOW!!
It's Um Pow! Um Pow!
Smasin bashin everything he can,
it's Um Pow! Um Pow, right now!
He'll take you down with a flyin punch!
Karate kick you in the stomach,
make you lose your lunch!
O My holy cow! Look out -
It's Um Pow!
"Um?" POW!!!

Why do we worship superheroes so much?
It's reasonable to hope someone cares about us.
Is it because all the good men have gone?
They were gentle and strong
When they spoke, we felt hope.
Their truth could move millions,
Ignite a moment of brilliance.
Unite every color and creed and ignorance
That history itself couldn't bury resilience
But the moment is lost,
A match struck in a wave,
a nation of hate,
and the youth in a daze,
And all I can think is we made it this way
We stopped exposing our kids to the truth of the matter
and so they got lost in a culture that says they don't matter.
When a fight for a vote became a fight for a like,
We can't act surprised when kids fight for a fight
Entire religions preach having a purpose
And still replaced values with things that are worthless.
A society so numb to the progress they've won
Find a perverse pleasure to see it undone.
When a company is allowed to sell plots of land on the moon,
When a leader of freedom commits treason against truth,
Is a sure sign that we the people, have given up, too.
The allowance of absurdity into our lives
Little by little, it rots from inside
Until we cannot admit that we have allowed this.
Now the roaring crescendo of human triumph is silent.
Is it better to admit that we're dying contrived?
Or is it easier to shut up and eat their lies?

Little hands
Soft and velveteen
Shiny eyelids
Tired and drooping
Long lashes
Looking down at the ground
A small mask
To fit his round face
With a childish print
Of his favorite hero
Shy and quiet
With delicate limbs
Putting on his large backpack
Almost home
Invulnerable
To the screams of the others
As lightning strikes
Beyond the fields of corn
Body jostled
As the bus bumps along
Dull jade eyes
Peering through the window
Staring at the rain
Behind the glass

When I was a little girl I wanted to be a superhero
she saves the world
leaves no soul behind
defends the saints from the devils
soars through the maze of fear
I can't wait to be a superhero

Perhaps he wasn't an angel from the sky
Or a superhero with the ability to fly
...But instead just a boy who liked to get real high

A sapphire under a waterfall
Counting scars when you take the call
Resign your emotions, then off you fly
No, they can’t see what you feel
Don’t understand how you can keep it real
Until that moment
When you crash and burn
What’s that bullet in the sky?
You’ve got the wrong crowd giving you the evil eye
But they don’t see you
They just see those butterflies
So you’ve learned to let them go
Educating your mind with what you don’t know
Until that moment when you break and fall
Your sick and then you cry, you try
But you’re, still hang up on the last tragic lullaby…
So you sigh
Cause your a drunken crow collector, always asking why?
Even when the poet starts to sing
Your soul screams can’t they think of anything
That’s right, that’s right
Oh that’s right….for me to heal?
Cause you can figure it out
What this case is all about
Yeah you’ve found that angel but you can’t find her butterflies
And at that moment when you reach the sky
Looking down across the scene of all their lies
well that nightmare you cant rectify…
So you just let it go
let it go
You can’t let it go

There’s a superhero protecting the city,
And when the sun goes down he fights
To keep his friends and family safe
On treacherous, deadly nights.
He uses his marvelous super strength
For lots of things, it‘s quite practical.
And he uses invisibility
To be supremely sneaky and tactical.
Each and every night he goes to stop
Bad people from doing bad things
The city loves their superhero,
And treat him as their king.
They know him well and they can tell
That he’ll always treat them with care
They know they can call at any time,
And that the hero will always be there.
But many long and sleepless nights
Begin to take their toll.
The hero’s getting tired
Night after night on patrol.
And the battles fought aren’t easily won,
The hero’s decorated with scars
From poison darts, and fisticuffs,
Falling from buildings onto cars.
But no one else can protect the people
Whom the hero love so dear,
So the hero cannot take a break,
Not one day off because he fears
That as soon as he’s gone the baddies will come
And wreak havoc on his friends
And the hero cannot allow that to happen;
He could never make amends.
Though he’s growing quite weary, the hero keeps fighting
Because that’s the way heroes are wired.
But his strength doesn’t work like it used to,
And his invisibility tends to backfire.
His strength only works around other people,
He grows weak as soon as they’re gone.
He’s invisible almost all of the time,
So people can’t see something’s wrong.
It’s now to the point where the hero dreads
The sun sinking into the west
Because he knows that once the sun goes down,
He’ll be put to the test.
He’s so tired and weak and he’s ready to quit
But he knows he must go out again.
Isn’t protecting the city week after week
Worth any amount of pain?
He’s reluctant to go out, and almost dares to do evil,
To show that he’s in control.
But he knows he never will, his reputation’s at stake,
And he prepares to go out on patrol.
The city is asking to be saved once again.
And he cries as the sky turns red,
Maybe the city won’t expect to be saved
If the hero himself is dead.
For the hero feels so very alone.
He knows he can’t go on forever.
How many more super villains and monsters,
He asks, can this poor hero weather?
The hero knows that he can’t go much longer,
That he only has a little while
Before the people figure out he’s hurt
But for now he saves with a smile.
Though his bones are weak, and his skin is bruised,
Off to save the city once more, he goes.
He’s pushing himself far past his limit
As he brawls ‘gainst countless foes.
He wants to keep his people safe,
Though he may be going to his grave.
For no one ever taught this hero
To save others, first himself he has to save.

He's not just a man
He can fly, he can fall
He can run, he can protect
He's a superhero
He fly, he's on the top of the world
Touching the white clouds
With his hand unto his soul
Feeling the cold spring breeze
He fall, he's covered with mud
Like any man, he can stumble and fall
But he didn't mind the cold mud
And continued to walk with life
He run, he's faster than speed of light
Though it's hard to believe
It's true he can run on water
Everything happened like bullet shot ahead
He protect, he's an invincible man
Like any other super heroes
He's strong and will protect any one
To make this world a better one
Because if you're in danger
Like dust flying swiftly in the wind
He'll come to your rescue
And bring justice with his pride
He tries harder and harder like crazy
Fighting with effort to save the nation
With his blood, sweat and tears
He deserves a praise like of a Superhero
Though he's unaware of the realities he does
He's living in his own sweet nightmare
As he continues to bring out the best of him
And continue to save the people around him
Yet, beyond his own utopian world
Comes out the truth of his existence, he's no superhero
But he's a man, someone who can't fly
But a man that can stumble and fall
The people around him can't deny anymore
As they look into his eyes, there they knew
Everything's wonderful, but never true
And that he's held captive to his own illusions
They saw beyond his superhero behaviors
He became someone nobody knows
He only knows himself through his perception
Because he's held captive to his own illusions
Like a maze where no one can get out
He'll remain there without help to escape
If not helped, someday it will bring his end, because He doesn't need someone to save but himself.

i wish i could go back -
hold the little boy with unkempt, inky hair
and clumsy, painted fingertips
by the hand and tell him:
“you are a hero.
you will soar into the sky
with your crimson cape
and pointe shoes;
the crowd will tell you
to fight tougher, punch harder
but i believe in you
and that's enough.”

Traditionally, a cartoon strip,
as it's known, is drawn as a series
of angular directional boxes, called
frames, moving from left to right
across the page as illustrations.
That is a hero strip, meaning what is
referred to as Mystery Men, disguised
he-men & shapely, buxom women
in masks, etc.; do daring things. But,
this is a poem. I hope it's as exciting
as reading a cartoon strip featuring
colorful heroes doing wondrous things.

I was chosen by chance
The moment fate took a bite
The start of my story
Was the end of his life
I felt unworthy and confused
Running farther from the fight
I wasn't scared of the dark
I was more scared of the light
That focused on my failures
Weighed by greater expectations
I was ****** into the web
Of my own frustration
I want to run and hide
Just to escape it all
Forget what fate has given me
All of my fears and all of my falls
This mask that holds a legacy
Wasn't able to mask a novice
Because this suit held a hero
And I wasn't suited for this promise

Far out of the corner of his
Eye he followed a star
Shining deep in the distant
Constilation
Dark matter concealed his
Hand out of sight
The connection was COMIC
From the hammer of Thor
Stan Lee created
Spiderman and the Fantastic four

What if
... I could turn back time
... I could go forward
... I could change the days
... I could read your mind
What if
... fairytales would come true
... superheroes do excist
... magic was for everyone
... happiness wasn't a bubble
What if
... I could fullfil my dreams
... I wouldn't be too scared
... I didn't lie to myself
... I could get my happy ending.
What if...

Half Batman half Robin,
Houston we have a problem,
and you don’t want no problem with me,
I’m off balanced and on one,
at the head of the table,
Delilah’s on a Sunday,
not willing but I am able,
I guess we’ve all gotta go one day,
but that day is not today,
or tonight got two lights,
one for the occasional cigarette,
and one that’s a Brunette that burns bright,
feeling cliche as fck but that’s okay because you know what,
we are at the top of the pyramid so it only makes sense we’re high,
hi I’m high,
how are you,
haven’t seen you in awhile might’ve been forever till now,
then you appear like a ghost at a haunting and say “Boo!”,
ooh,
the things you do your new name’s Obsession,
it’s ironic that you asked me to have a staring contest,
since I’d confessed that I was already staring,
had my eye on you as soon as you entered the room,
I was perched in my throne at the head of the table,
but I was thrown when you waltzed in like a Godsend,
my God you’re the stuff of fairytales and fables,
the only one I wanted to talk to,
to in that whole venue,
and we’re talking Delilah’s not a dive bar,
so you know there were some quality options from which to choose,
but we both knew it was a rap,
as soon as you read the poem I’d wrote on that napkin,
and yeah this is Hollywood,
so yeah sometimes that kind of magic still happens,
you gave me your number in front of your boyfriend,
and didn’t even care so I didn’t either,
because we’re True Lovers,
we’re The Proof that can turn any sceptic into a True Believer,
a combination of all things yet still totally unique,
and yeah we’ve got our issues but hey we’ve all got our problems,
so we come together like two phones tethered or better yet bare feet on a beach,
and then we get ghost and disappear outta the reach of their nonsense,
peace!

To walking out of the house alone
To killing enemies with every dying emotion
To those who stand still in soulfading light
To those who don’t hesitate taking a bullet with pride
We salute you because you're willing to fight!
To face every plight without getting afraid
To bathe sometimes in the rain of grenades
To those with their eternal will
To those with the restless spirit
We salute you because you refuse to quit!
To the sacrifices that seemed very normal
To the courage amidst the literal horror
To those who dare to fight their own fears
To those who die fighting for us at the border
We salute you because YOU all are the real avengers!
And all those mothers who shed tears at night
All the wives keep waiting in the fading sight
All the families who lost their beloved ones
To those all who only lived once but shall stay forever
In our hearts, in our memories
In the history, for their dauntless bravery
To the real superheroes of our nation who don’t fight for any fame
I salute you because it's not a shame!
