There are worse places,
little girl. Worse hells.
This isn’t one of them.
There are depths you haven’t yet seen,
where the dive alone
would **** you.
The sea monster of my depths,
curled still, and waiting,
waiting for me.
I imagine his hand on my ***
I imagine all the trespasses
I would never let happen
(never again).
There is the scene of the crime—
I’ll be there once again—
I’ll take a photograph of it
again—
where he knew,
despite the hand that he let caress
its way downward, despite
his fingers that fumbled
towards ecstasy,
he knew—
he knew
that he never should have touched me.

Hungry.
In the silence,
of this afternoon,
they arrive, ready
to feed children who wait
in nest high above.
Their high whistle dancing,
pierces the soundscape
These mejiros--yellow with sharp white eyes,
Comb through hibiscus bush
Finding a meal
Hidden within
Like parrotfish
Munching through coral reef,
I sit under tree listening,
Abruptly
The seashells to my mind
Fill with shrill sounds
Of mothers scolding monsters,
A quickening--
Their white eyes dart like fearful
squid flying through
brushy undercurrents.
Underneath,
The small lion cat
Stalks the
Hungry sounds
In the bush
the Hungry looking for Hungry

Rolling power:
Churning waves
Grinding shells,
Prolific evidence of life & death
Rising from salt depths,
Epic revelations from below.
Evidence of end games:
Shells, drilled, scarred, scored
By beaks of tendrilled monsters;
Occupants devoured,
****** through ravaged carapaces.
Fecund progeny:
Tiny messages, these shells...
Evidencing life,
Echoing death,
Generations grinding down and down.
My tanned bare feet,
Track tide-lined shells,
Seek forensic evidence and beauty,
Follow ribbons of shells
Cast empty from the pounding sea.

Here it comes
swimming in your bay
you'll not see it coming
as you're the prey
Hey, hey, Architeuthis
suckers so big and round
teeth in every one
shuttin the fishery down
It goes wherever it wants
does just what it'll do
snatching tourists at will
ones that are just like you
Hey, hey, Architeuthis
suckers so big and round
teeth in every one
shuttin the fishermen down
He's big and a badass
tentacles forty feet long
crushing ships, eating the crew
he don't know that that's wrong
Hey, hey, Architeuthis
suckers so big and round
teeth in every one
only wants to chow on down
Hey, hey, Architeuthis
just a cephalopod
ain't no bones about it
nothing to say
but OMFG

Welcome to the meat shop
Where arms and legs dangle from the top,
Where discarded fats ooze from the lid
Of a metal bin and a giant squid
Is sneaking out through the crack near the back door.
And the floor is ***** and slippery like butter
Oyster juice stained the buttons on the cash register.
Aunty comes with her butcher knife.
She’s about to chop the life
Out of that carp. She misses! And swears.
Her finger, clean cut, and bounces off the floor.
My lord!
Blood sputters from her knuckle.
The entire scene gives me a chuckle.
And I wake up from my dream hungry.

Said the sword as the eye,
"My edge is the sharpest,
Quickest maker of greatest numbers."
So the squid said:
"Oblivion is the lip of my beak,"
And he was the sharper.
The eye, as the sword, set to the forge,
Forfeit to visions of keenness,
And became claimant to a wicked edge
Which shaved him of shame;
Which loved most the whetstone,
So he set back to sharpening,
Growing so fine as to slice the stone in twain.
In recoil, he knocked upon his plane
And cut himself from his steadfast cradle,
And was pulled silently
Into timeless unbecoming.

in blue depths beyond our sight
day or night, you flagellate flawlessly
as if you had not a care
dare I say you're fleeing
a predator we're not seeing?
or perhaps just at play
in a world Verne created,
a space ahead of its drudging time
perilous, yet sublime
loligo forbesii, I can only imagine
what watery waves you whipped before I had you,
deep fried calamari, on my plate

Peering into my briefly loosened imagination, water at the mouth came and was swallowed.
Tide was taken out, and lost life preserver sauntered off to setting sun.
Culling something to discriminate between:
Poseidon erupting,
tentacled eyelashes drawing me,
or
a washing away of
any maybe.
Just then his trident pierced.

A giant squid is friend to none
Fighting, killing all the same
Only strength and steady aim
Can send the squidly monster on the run
A giant squid, a fearsome foe
Quick like snake and strong like cow
Fight the beast if you know how
Otherwise it's time to go
A tiny squid, a little friend
Knows the key to tame the hulk
Have him speak and do not sulk
Tears won't save you from a squidly end
Cheers for all, good times are on the way
The giant squid, he meant no harm at all
The tiny squid has saved us from the fall
Bless his squidly wisdom on this day

Your brown eyes have such depth.
I wonder if I dove into them
how far I'd have to swim
before I didn't know
which way was up.
The abyss of your curls
surround me
pulling me under,
and I hardly struggle;
Just a few ripples,
and nothing like that lady in Jaws
with her ******** screams.
I'll take the proffered tentacle
- allowing you to lead me away
from this place.

Chunks of brain litter the ground
Thoughts and dreams settle on the water like oil
Swirling and colliding in the night air
The sky breathes a great sigh
The land shivers cold
I stand where the sand meets the sea
A creature perched on my tongue
Side to side leaning preparing to soar out across the endless black above and below
I step into the inky waters, my legs disappearing beneath the surface
Wading out into calm waters that drop off to unknown depths
What swims below
Would they turn me away if I went sinking down
If I tried to become part of that dark world, untouched by human hands
Would I glow from the inside
If I sank down would my internal smouldering light the way
Would I be welcome with the squid and the murk
Would those quiet unmarred creatures sorround and keep me
Would the large eyes and many limbs understand the depths I must reach
Would they bring me down and help bury me in the silt at the bottom
Would they sweep the fine particles across me
Covering and comforting my restless skin
Would the dark and the stillness there bring the calm I crave
Would I be put to rest
Would I find peace

Out on the horizon
A line of glowing green
And the squids all flock towards it
That flourescent glean
What is it to them do you think?
An unknown beacon emitting warmth
Do they think they'll find love
As they all commute north
I suppose they are tricked and trapped and tangled in nets
Blinded by the light
Drawn towards the threat
From the green glowing beacon
Their path was set
Into the end and out of the wet.
