It is silent Too silent Yet the sight of the tree hugging the building Brings comfort to me. The train moves slowly on the tracks The people onboard are few This late in the night Most just want to be home. But not me- Not those the likes of me- Wandering silent basements and watching trains, Late in the night- Surrounded by the smell of the summer trees, And bats who seem invisible against the sky. Just me and the late dwellers, The insomniacs, And the pilots in the plane flying above- We all exist in this single breath- Beating hearts merging for a single second. The wind moves imperceptibly Caressing my head I despair when I cannot find Despair in the Departure Lounge In my downloads.

Late Night Meanderings
I have a playlist dedicated to us. It’s called - All the songs that hold a special place in my heart But are too dangerous to listen to

Our playlist
It’s December, it’s foggy and rainy, but that fits. Of course, a rainy Saturday means gathering in the common room with my roommates and watching either “The Hunger Games” or “Twilight.” Leong’s never seen Twilight, believe it or not, what are they DOing in China? We were explaining that It’s ok to talk through Twilight because it’s completely senseless. Yeah, good times. We got back from Thanksgiving break, and we had to hit it - grinding to squeeze half a semester into 18 days. It’s a cornucopia of pressure. Yes, we’ve hit the books, but we’re still us. Here’s a question: What’s the first season in December? “Spotify wrapped” season! EVERYONE has Spotify and once a year you get a summary of your listening habits. The reports came out this week and it’s all people are talking about. Comparing their lists, artists, tastes. Those lists say a lot about someone and it’s ok to not have taste, we should normalize it. My top artist was Taylor Swift (duh) my top song was Taylor Swift’s “Renegade,” Spotify says I listened to it 285 times but that’s biased because more than once, when writing a paper, I put that song on a loop for 6 hours. My second most listened to song was “Champagne Problems” By Taylor. That song is so Rory, Gilmore Girls coded - like Rory saying, “you're on your own.” My other top artists are TV Girl, the backseat lovers and hypo campus. Yeah, I roll big. Taylor’s also been in the conversation because Sophie has an ex-fem-friend (a freshman) who started seeing a 45-year-old guy. Let me ask you, what does a 45-year-old man have in common with an 18-year-old girl? We have Yale friends in their early 20s who consider themselves still teenagers and children and THEY are horrified. It’s naked fracking ********** (Sorry, that one foamed over.) The whole situation is ripped from Taylor’s 2010 masterpiece “Dear John,” which is about her dating John Mayer when she was 19 and he was 30-something. Her friends warned her, but she wouldn’t hear. Taylor Swift can be corny, and I love the corn, but she can be topical too and even though I was 7 when she released “Dear John” (2010), it’s a timeless lesson.

So it is my birthday today Though this day i feel no different than normal Perhaps a little sad As yesterday i had a bit of a conflict But I won't let this person have control over my birthday Today is supposed to be special Though most things have gone wrong I forgot my coffee this morning And Spotify gave me the worst songs on my playlist Still, today is my birthday I am sixteen It is a time to celebrate the sixteen years i have been struggling along Tomorrow will be the same as yesterday And today will be the only I think of my favorite flowers Red columbine, clematis, water lily Trembling, mental beauty, tranquility I think that if someone gave me a clematis today I would cry and preserve it forever I'd like to hide away And sit with my poetry And cup of coffee Writing about the beauty of the world That I cannot see

Lawrence Hall [email protected]   https://hellopoetry.com/lawrence-hall/ poeticdrivel.blogspot.com My Songs are off Spotify I’m going to take my songs off Spotify Not that I know what Spotify might be Or that I have any songs to take away Only that it seems to be a thing these days I want to be censured by Republicans Not that Republicans know what they might be Or that they ever notice me at all Only that it seems to be a thing these days I want to think today and pray for you - Now those are exactly the things to do!

If life were like Internet history I wouldn't be here And neither would you I'd have deleted us from my history And never seen you again If life were like my email I'd have endless lists of friends Following me everywhere Asking how my day was And being "always there for me" If life were like Spotify I could hear what I want And skip what I don't like A song for the day To carry me through it all If life were like Facebook I wouldn't be sad anymore And you could move on Once it all becomes "complicated" Afterall, I can just delete it later If life were like a video game I could be the best And you the worst Because I couldn't fall for you If you were only pixellated If life were like an avatar I could shape you up To be the perfect image And when I get tired Just delete you like you did me If life were like a video Your voice would play on and on Forever in my mind Until I eventually realize You pressed pause and I never knew

Submissions to the Annual Musical Torture Experiment for 2017 are officially open! Submit your five songs by emailing them to [email protected] "BUT WHAT IS THE MUSICAL TORTURE EXPERIMENT NICK?" Well me, I'm glad you asked. The Musical Torture Experiment was started in 2013 by yours truely, Nicholas R Coulombe. Where I asked everyone I knew, met, or saw on the street, to hand me 5 songs that I would add to one playlist, listen to that playlist on a loop AND NO OTHER MUSIC for an entire month. I have continued this tradition each year recruiting Willing victims & voulenteers to listen along with me. These victims have many different lives, interests, and genre preferences, but there is one thing they all have in common. The blissfull escapism of living in their headphones. This gaggle of Tune-heads who use their music as a fundamental life resource, a coping mechanism, an escapist fantasy or meditation. These people offer their body and spirit to music. Now, for a whole month, they are relinquishing control of their music. Shotgun no longer shuts their piehole. For an entire month. Listeners will not be able to skip or select any music other than YOUR SUBMISSIONS! This is the perfect opportunity to force someone to really find whats so amazing about those artists we culturally hate. Or maybe theirs an oldy that your grandkids Refuse to consider music because there is static or twangy voices instead of bass drops. Maybe you talk about your love of skrillex and a hipster spits their kombucha in your face. If you have songs that DESERVE the light of day. This is your chance to indulge in their exhibition. want to voulenteer yourself as tribute to listen along with these crazy ******** keep tabs on what is being added cause you think its kinda interesting? Or contribute YOUR five songs? Just Send an email to [email protected] by the end of August to participate! Go check out the playlist itself here: https://open.spotify.com/user/124409443/playlist/2TAdzDUKx7sfW1uJrqMS7K

Collaborate on a spotify playlist that will play on shuffle in my casket after I go. I want you to add songs you want me to feel the radio signals of. We know we feel music with a fifth sense, A full body ASMR tingle Whispers of russian woman fixing our robot parts. Well I can't hear you, speak, move or eat But bones vibrate to soundwaves just the same. Give my casket the best **** bass you can find. Bass that will wake the dead. Rattle me like an instrument the way you plucked strigs while we were alive You have control over what i hear after I go So you may play me music beautiful as we played in the space between our fingertips Play spotify in my casket Only you and those i trust have access to adding songs. But don't add garbage music. Because I swear, I will haunt you.

no more june songs it's november now and I celebrated daylight savings with two days in bed thinking of you and reading poems I would've been better off never writing. no more june songs it's november now it gets dark at five and one of these nights I'll delete every poem that you inspired. no more june songs it's november now and they'll never be able to prove that I loved you.

Senior Year Killed the Syllabus Week Pt. I (10w)
Here's the grand illusion... I was the evasive shadow But we have only just begun. Tell me, isn't that strange? Every day feeds this moral decay In the strange game of life. Now we can feel the winter. Solitude's upon my skin Waiting for the rain you're bringing. Communication's broken, phantoms are far away. Now the leaves are turning red In a time of hope and desperation. So I wither Out the dark into the fire below.

O Debussy, I run home from the bar to hear the sssssound of those sssssyllables inciting the ripplesssss of fingersssss that will ssssshudder my sssssheltered sssssoul. Your soul too beautiful to write but a ********* I must try... BRUCE LIKES TO **** SO YOU SHOULD BUY HIS BOOK. AUDIBLE, AN AMAZON COMPANY. indecipherable terms and conditions **SHUT THE **** UP SPOTIFY.** I'M TRYING TO WRITE. Ahh. That's better. O Debussy, your accents strike me like the moon, Clair De Lune. Shine your genius upon me and light my way forward through the next bus ride. I will imagine the silver grass pastures that inspired you, through the ***** window that inspires me, with buildings. more buildings. still more buildings. Wow. These cheap headphones really corrupt Reverie... you must have sounded awesome live, at the piano, by your side.... AT SQUARE SPACE WE BELIEVE IN THE CREATIVE ABILITY OF THE INDIVIDUAL... Then **SHUT THE **** UP** and let me write. O Debussy, your chords set free souls  — caged birds that **** less. Well souls don't **** at all, but that isn't the point. But seriously you... HELLO SPOTIFY USER. WE HOPE WE ARE ANNOYING THE **** OUT OF YOU AND THAT YOUR  DAY IS AWESOME. GO PREMIUM. :) I give up. Debussy, you're great. I ****

Update
All I wanted was to be with you and suffer every day There are no flowers on your grave Willing to die and I will, after you for what I believe Life betrays, but I keep going And as long as I'm alive I won't be free 'Cause on time fate calls out to us. In my dreams I can hold you, and I wake so alone It's not too late for me Things I must die for Soon I'll be knocking at your door. Walk me across the water Shine your light, be the beacon of hope at night. There's no time to waste Our quest will last forever Two hearts should meet The wheels are in motion, together we turn them. Am I losing all track of time? Free to the end It's a hard won place of mystery. Realize our full potential How can we ignite the flame while missing the true spark? Gravity is finally giving in Down to the detail It's meant to be, I see the signs Pictures of something we lived. If you follow the flame you end up in the dark. Let's imagine this beautiful paradise before us rise Endless, our dreams carry on Living in our hearts Some say it's like autumn breeze The night will be our day Far beyond reality And I wish the sun would slip away Will it make me see? I breathe as hard as you as I end my day Now forever falling down. Whatever dreams we're reaching to claim Twist and shake It will never come back again.
