different kind of sadness
when i remember what

deserve someone

i sat motionless
for a moment after you
spoke because i couldn’t
believe you thought so
negatively about yourself
i held your hand and looked
into your eyes with a kindness
that i prayed quelled
the demons festering
your soul
and once i moved my
fingers from your sweet
hand to your sweet face,
my lips parted
‘’you’re enough for me
and i love you, okay?’’
you got quiet
you just stared
and then i saw the
tear fall from your eye
before it was quickly
wiped away
by your hand
you cried
and i haven’t seen you
cry since last year.’’
