Pretending--Preventing
A peek behind the curtain:
I've tightened the rope
I've split up the track
And hold steadfast the ends (no slack)
Spinning above, mid-air like some antisocial acrobat
I've learned the words
I've carved the face
To only read smile
While the rest seem to float
All show
No rope, though
that could be an act--as well--

Sit down
Stand up
Sit again
Sing a song
Give 10%
Listen to words being screamed that you could've just read at home
Stand up
Pray
Exit through the back
Leavening with the same promise of a big return and forever life
But after 50 years
And turning 70 yesterday
It occurred to him
He's paid over $30, 000 to see the same magic show 2, 600 times
Wasting over 156, 000 minutes doing the same thing.....
Waiting for someone to appear out of thin air

Captured in a state of dread
There's no escaping The Walking Dead
Or Breaking Bad's **** perfection
A camera eye of moral deception
Our heroes are murdered yet still we watch
The vampires humanity was simply shut off
Prime time committed to bloodshed and crime
Nameless victims by screenplay design
Mad Men, House Of Lies, Shameless in fact
Gone are the shows with morals intact
Truth is, it's quite intriguing
Which in fact is the key
That allows the networks
To spread this disease...

Behind all his smiles and silly gestures
He longs to walk a thousand miles away
He desires to escape from everyday
No more small talk
Or large gatherings
The curtain has CLOSED
A contemporary task.
**In the eyes of the crowd
All they see is the proud facade
Entertainment is important
And all they care about
Forgetting the person
behind the PERSONA
a temporary mask.**
As his mask fades
Rabbits shift
into sparrows
No light at the end
Only cued applauds
Some flowers
And skewed imagery
An exemplary stage.
**Disappearing into the night
Unmasking the illusions he conjured.
The sinking reality comes back
As
Lingering
Silence echoes his longing…
A price to pay of the famed gift
Hoping this will be his last...**
