#presents
I love Christmas. How the snow softly falls,
the togetherness of family and the joy of that day that comes around once a year. The presents under the tree. The glowing lights on houses and trees, lights decorating the eaves, and little blow up Santa's in the yards of peoples houses. I like to think of Christmas as a day that brings joy and happiness. Where the world is less gloomy and grey. Where you can see the children's happy smiles and the glow of their faces as they see what's under the tree. I love Christmas the smell of hot cocoa, apple cider, and the faint smell of pine drifting in the breeze. The Christmas lights strewn all around blinking and adding just enough joy to the day. On cold days where I can play in the snow throw snowballs and make snowmen with each snowflake that falls. I love Christmas the best holiday of all.

One Christmas I was looking around for presents
I seen these imitation Oscars in a shop window
I thought that'd make a good present
Sure everybody would love to get an Oscar
So I bought a few, one for each person not wanting to leave anyone out
I even bought one for myself
I was very proud of my Oscar, my lovely shiny golden man (probably made of plastic)
One day a few months later my niece came around
She was always on at me to declutter my house
To get rid of things
I seen her looking around and then looking over at my Oscar
I jumped to my feet quick and grabbed my Oscar and said "You can take all the rest of the ***** but you ain't getting my Oscar"
Then I told her I wanted her to take a picture of me holding my Oscar
And that after I'd died
I wanted her to publish it as my memorial picture, me there holding my Oscar
People looking at it would say "Jaysus! Look! The ****** got an Oscar for his life's performance"

call me the grinch
i like how he thinks
christmas is all about the material things
they cut down the trees, there’s excessive use of energy
they’re lighting up their homes with fairy lights and LEDs
oh so satisfying to the eye
but unfortunately, the planet dies…
season is over, so all the lights come down
everyone is posting now
how are we supposed to know you enjoyed christmas if it wasn’t posted about?
extravagant displays, too much paper waste
opening up the packaging just to throw it all away…
so much damage, weeks ahead you’re already planning,
all the things you’re buying
children around the world are dying, whilst you stress about not getting the latest “must-have items”
to me, christmas highlights the socioeconomic divide
some are choosing between having presents or keeping on the lights
there are struggling parents that just don’t want to say no to their child
everything is so much more bleak when the lights go out
some pockets left full, many left empty
everything was light, but the debt was heavy
now it’s january,
christmas only made you happy temporarily
now i get why they said “tis the season to be jolly”
people are happy with getting and giving gifts when spending all their money,
but when it’s all gone nothing is funny…
piled up bills, tired, and depressed
then they sell you a coffee,
it’s a joke…
what they meant was “tis the season to be broke”
so honestly i don’t mind if you call me the grinch,
i like how he thinks
he was right…
christmas was all about the material things

Yeah, I've moved around
for a whole while. Lost
a lot of myself, lost sight
of the goal, wasn't quite
sure what the goal could
even be about. "Something
this excruciating can't
be worth the pain", I thought.
And most of it wasn't, but
some of it meant everything,
sometimes longer and
sometimes just for
a pretty little while.
Wonderful people gave me
wonderful mementos. I
keep all of them, even
if the memory hurts.
And yeah, I lost a lot of furniture
and I lost a lot of instruments
and I lost a lot of friends
but I've never lost a gift.
Everybody's still out there
one way or the other and
they were kind enough to share
some part of themselves
with me. I'm thankful.
They're proof that we live and
they're proof that we love.
Even if some don't anymore and
even if we don't anymore.
I've let go of all of it.
But not of the presents
and not of the memories.
Thank you.

My favorite gifts were all from Christ the Lord:
The midnight Scrabble game where U and I
Were side by side and face to face and high
On Christmas Spirit, cherishing the Word;
That great game of Oahu that I won;
That great game of Oahu that I lost;
The time I spent pretending to be Frost
Seeking a rime and landing on a pun;
The yummy apple pie perfectly baked,
Second to ̶M̶a̶r̶t̶h̶a̶ ̶S̶t̶e̶w̶a̶r̶t̶'̶s̶ none, and made with TLC;
The morning coffee brought to me at 3
P.M. by her who kissed me as I waked.
My favorite gifts have everything to do

Y'know whenever I go to my brother's to watch a football game
He always brings out a lovely big platter of cheeses, with a selection of crackers
This and some hummus, nuts and potato crisps
Along with a nice cold beer
He really likes his cheeses does my brother
Me! I don't mind a bit of cheese myself
But Him, he's a real connoisseur.
Anyway last Christmas I was looking for a present to bring him
And in my local supermarket, guess what, they had these lovely big platters of various cheeses
Wow! I was delighted, that was his present sorted
No more traipsing around shops, tiring my poor feet out
And this was a good present, something he'd really like;
So I brought the cheese home and put it in the fridge
Next morning I was up early sorting out the presents, who got what
Putting them in nice Christmasy type bags
I then packed them in the car and took off,
An hour later I'm sitting at their table and we're talking about some poor celebrity movie star who's just passed away
Their saying he had some Brain disease, just like Alcheimers except it wasn't Alcheimers
My brother's wife is there trying to articulate, to explain
"It's like his brain had holes in it"
And I'm thinking "Holes in the brain, hmmm... just like...like a Swiss cheese"
Then, of course, I remember. **** I say out loud in front of them all,"I forgot the cheese, I left the feckin' cheese in the fridge"
Really ****** me off
Then I start thinking, that's actually quite funny
We're talking about Alcheimers disease and it reminds me I left the cheese in the fridge
What do you call that, is that ironic or what ?
What's a Paradox ? Sounds like a washing powder.
Wait! Is this a poem at all or am I in the wrong place ? (LoL)

👧🏿🧒🏻👧🏼..Expectant children decorate their Christmas tree
Offerings to the tree are made
Garlands, lighting and hand drawn images appear
The tree wide awake for Christmas eve
I slumber through the years
Nemeton am protected
My girth eternally expanding
Limbs branching out
Tap roots secure my soul
My time in earth is soon to finish
So I must prepare
Engage thru progenitors
Meditating joy to spread
Contemplation of upheaval to come
A sleigh draws up
Snow crystals fly with the driver’s sneeze
Smiling and doffing an elven hood
A tingle to my core
Arousing me from my sleep
Its time to pull myself from the earth clutches
I sprawl onto the sleigh
Arrive we do below an aurora borealis
Elves hold leashes to the solar winds
Empty boxes are being piled high on the sleigh
The elf starts to dress me
Two large baubles
A large red blanket and belt
Moccasin boots
I stand transformed
Reindeers hooves dig into the snow
Whilst solar tethers are attached
Climbing pulled by the solar sail
Time starts to slacken
Waving elf’s below now frozen in time
The silver light of sleeping homes appear below
A cousin opens a window
Enchanted boxes I pass across
Children's aspirations start to appear
Each box now filled by a touch of their tree
The sleigh knows where to go
Reaching all my house bound cousins
Carrots will be welcomed
Drinks duly absorbed
No advent signs left behind
Returning the sleigh lands gracefully
Time resumes
My work is done
Love is strengthened for this world
The friendly elf delicately removes the traces of Christmas from me
Natures embalming bio-presence
I am re-formed
Unable to plant my feet I am spent
I lay down along with all my Christmas cousins
Await my renascence
Soon the wishes of many
Come true
The gifts are being opened
An outbreak of happiness unveiled
Affection unfolds with the opening of a box
Many will not have a Christmas tree
Or a home
Maybe sick
Or have no parents
Think of them this Christmas day 🧑🎄

The cursory glance at the gingerbread man,
today’s tenuous character,
only momentarily takes my mind
off the biro circles, patiently drawn
in the catalogue downstairs

Because She Craved the Very Best
by Michael R. Burch
Because she craved the very best,
he took her East, he took her West;
he took her where there were no wars
and brought her bright bouquets of stars,
the blush and fragrances of roses,
the hush an evening sky imposes,
moonbeams pale and garlands rare,
and golden combs to match her hair,
a nightingale to sing all night,
white wings, to let her soul take flight ...
She stabbed him with a poisoned sting
and as he lay there dying,
she screamed, "I wanted everything!"
and started crying.

The Christmas tree is vacant of what
make it jolly, bauballs hang in remanence
with tarnished broken gleam.
Disused needles litter the floor,
careful where you tread take care.
The cat hangs loosely paper thin flesh
gaunt from the crimson tinsel
throttled around its physique...
The Turkey on the table a corpse of
happier times..
Now a prison of destitute flesh
like paper unwrote upon..
But it says everything.
Presents litter the floor wrapped in
regrets.. all open, only the bones of
lost promises lay at the bottom.
Christmas time is only 364 days away,
And this will all be here,
so will we,
no one has found us yet..

She wraps the presents with cheap paper
on the desk against the wall, lit by dim
Christmas lights. All the unwrapped toys
are in the pink plastic basket at her feet,
and she stacks the finished ones at the
foot of the bed.
I’m propped up on the pillows, touching
myself and stroking my chest as I watch
her work, charmed by how her bones
and muscles move beneath her skin. She
turns around with a finished gift and
sets it down. Her eyes meet mine and she
simpers, biting her lower lip, then turns
and picks up another toy.
I leave the bed, careful not to knock
anything off, and walk up behind her.
She keeps working on the present as I
pet her shoulders and brush my fingers
along her back. I press my body against
hers, wrapping my arms around her
waist and planting kisses on her neck.
She stops working and places her hands
on mine, tilting her head back and
letting her hair drape my shoulder. I
move my hand down her stomach and
across her hair, and I rub her. She huffs
and brings my other hand to her *******
beckoning me to caress her. I circle
tighter, faster, harder, and she moans
and reaches her hand back to caress me.
I nibble at her ear, and she lets out a
heavy moan, and I whisper in her ear
“You are a wonderful mother.”
Her breathing slows, and she nudges
my hand from her. “Don’t say that” she
whispers. We stand there, frozen, before
she continues working on the present.
I stay there behind her, realising my
best intentions were a mistake.
“I’ll just go then.” I put my clothes back
on and remove the trash bag from the
bin to take with me to make sure her
husband doesn’t find my condoms.
“Merry Christmas.” I close the bedroom
door and leave her home, careful not
to wake her kids.

Christmas used to be
So much planning, for me
Piles of presents under the tree
Singing carols by the piano with glee
Excitement months too early
Now, as I come home for the day
Too tired to even consider to play
Happy just listening for the bells of the sleigh
We’ll light the fire, and beside it we’ll lay
Together tonight, despite hearts far away

It is quiet in the halls.
All the merriment has died.
Paper lines the floors,
all the elves have gone to hide.
Tonight we will sleep in,
for there is no more surprise.
No cookies are left out,
just happy smiles on Christmas night

Tinsel, bows, lights, and gifts,
this is a part, of what Christmas is;
Carolers, shopping, and bright Candy Canes,
T'was never the reason, our Lord Jesus came.
~
A tree, wrapping paper, and green Mistletoe,
Christmas cartoons, that they always show;
A feast, baking cookies, and stockings to fill,
does not acknowledge, that Jesus is real.
~
Santa Clause, Elves, and plenty of cheer,
counting the days, 'til Christmas draws near;
Bells ringing, mittens, and flying Reindeer,
does not signify, that Jesus was here.
~
What is the reason, for this Holiday,
when families gather, to all celebrate;
They'll open their presents, on this Christmas Morn,
not giving a thought, to why Jesus was born.
~
Yet on this glorious time of the year,
please don't forget why Jesus was here;
He came to live, and be Sacrificed,
He did this all, for all of Mankind!

Under the Christmas tree
Are toys for you and me:
First we have our personal phones;
Now, we can each have our own drones…
They fly high – they fly low –
Hovering to and fro.
Like eerie will-o’-the-wisp they fly…
Appearing like dust specks in the sky…
They fly high…they fly low…
We can’t see where they go…
Suddenly here! Silently there!
Like ghosts, they show up everywhere!
Like aliens, out of a nightmare –
Disappearing, ev’n as we stare…
Under the Christmas tree
Are drones for you and me…

Christmas would come in the morning,
and Santa was on his way;
Yet there was no tree for a nine year old,
to cheerfully decorate.
~
Dressed warmly in tattered, old rags,
into her backyard she strayed;
Determined to find a Christmas Tree,
to bring home and proudly display.
~
Upon her bended knees she searched,
until she finally found;
A tree that looked as lonely as her,
so she pulled it from the ground.
~
She placed it in her living room,
used twine to hold it in place;
Then she found the few decorations,
that she had managed to save.
~
When the last ornament was hung,
she plugged in a strand of lights;
And how that lonely tree she found,
became a most beautiful sight.
~
"Now Santa will have a place,
to put our Christmas gifts;"
She smiled as she thought to herself,
"I hope all our presents will fit."
~
She took her mother by the hand,
to show her what she had done;
Her mother smiled, as she said,
"This is truly beautiful, hon."
~
"I'm glad you like it mommy,
now we're ready when Santa arrives;
I wanted to put a Christmas Tree up,
and I knew you would be surprised."
~
"Now listen to me Sweetpea,
you know how poor we are;
I have no money to buy you gifts,
though I love you with all my heart.
~
The child looked at her mother,
and saw the tears in her eyes;
"We will still get lots of presents,
'cause Santa Clause never lies."
~
When Christmas morning arrived,
the child sprung from her bed;
She woke her mother up and said,
"Let's see what Santa Clause left!"
~
Beneath their beautiful, Christmas Tree,
there were presents piled everywhere;
Her mother stared in disbelief,
at the gifts stacked here and there.
~
Then they both heard the sound of a knock,
upon their living room door;
On the porch were sacks of food,
how could anyone ask for much more?
~
They sat down later that evening,
and enjoyed their huge, Christmas meal;
They both gave thanks to the Lord,
and could feel that Christmas was real!
