Picking this book
and yet another,
I was thrown into a bolt of awe,
Not of the writer’s ingenuity,
But of characters,
Who are laid bare
But still blazing.
Ooh, these iconic characters,
They lived a life
Impact alone,
Is less of a description.
I read;
Amazed,
Gasping,
Sighing,
Adoring
These radiant souls
Sold to one course:
“Jesus to all nations.”
Now in books,
Their trials,
Their triumphs
In Christ
Still breathing through pages.
God’s Generals,
Indeed.
Leaving comfort,
Overlooking odds,
They spread to nations
Like harmattan fire.
With just one aim:
“My Jesus must be known.”
In this great act;
Leaving family,
Losing property,
Losing love,
They marched gallantly
To nations
Where persecution waited.
Still, I reckon their wisdom:
One man;
No, not alone,
The Holy Spirit
Through a yielded vessel
Translated the Bible,
Wrote books
In another tongue.
Wow.
Stunned is my inquiry.
Not men alone;
Women too,
Beside their husbands,
Preaching, writing, singing:
“Your Kingdom come.”
Heaven rejoices over these;
Those who planted in hard soils.
Others now water
What their labor birthed.
But He;
He gives the increase.
God’s great plan:
“That all men will be saved.”

Saint Patrick died on March 17th.
So we celebrate the day with green and drink.
Patrick, was kidnapped to Ireland as a slave,
a condition he never fully forgot or forgave.
Patty (as he was known by his friends)
was a sober, relentless, devout Christian.
As a missionary, he gallivanted methodically, converting heathens
and if he failed to convert you, you weren’t left breathin’.
He could burn you at the steak for ignoring ‘reason’.
To show Christ’s power, he ‘banished’ the snakes,
It’s amazing, the difference a miracle can make.
The year 461 pre-dated laptops and even the Internet,
so, I think it’s time we finally forgive and even forget
the sad, sordid history of Catholic conversion “therapies”
because today we need a reason to drink until we’re green.

Most people don't get it
Why they leave
But I do
And I love them for it
They leave home
Two years male
Eighteen months female
But they leave the life behind
So that others can still be with their family
For eternity

from the wild
dove of desert
nature's child
she of sweetness
plumage neat
buff and ecru
to my feet
she is pure
sleek of line

she's so close
I see her eyes
she's not afraid
of my great size
curious
she looks at me
a wild thing
completely free

Manchu Pichu
Inca kings?
missionaries
born in Spain
conquistadors

for their gold
