#menthol
i. To catch a boy in the wake of summer Leave out a cup Brimming with melon-colored milk tea and tapioca Make sure to capture his smile When he spills some on the counter When it is still warm on the cheeks And independence has yet to be fully realized You catch a boy by offering him the futon Night after night after night after night You don’t think to ask your mom and He doesn’t seem to mind the basement stench But you overcompensate with your words anyway You’re good at that Kesha plays like a hymn in the cathedral Of his boyfriend’s second car But you catch a boy with the menthol sound Of Cavetown at dusk in your hole of a bedroom And he sits on the bed and watches you paint As his notifications are piling up with passive-aggressive texts Summer tastes like lemon and cough drops

this is the beginning.
The first time my lips touched a cigarette, I cringed at the taste but I ****** and puffed the toxins anyways. smooth. It was menthol. I didn't know what that meant. I didn't care. I just wanted to be cool with my friends. They were 14, I was 12. 'Mature for my age'. I had fitted in. But was smoking that cigarette really, really worth it? I haven't talked to those 'friends' in 6 years.

Cigarette.
whenever i hear your voice or that name of yours my insides cramp, and i find myself lighting another menthol cigarette, once again realizing that it’s much sweeter than you ever were

the menthol cigarette
Listen to what I'm about to tell you, Because this matter is very important For it will give you great advantage on How to write a poem Put your right hand against your forehead, Make sure the dorsal surface touches it Now make a rightward circular motion; Because your head's been aching for hours Apply more pressure to your massage As you squeeze your nape up and down Then make circular neck motions—to the left; to the right Whilst you look for the menthol liniment And now you've found your relief formula; Which caused you more harm than good Because your bedroom is a jungle— Full of mysterious creatures and uncharted places Now open the lid and pour a little amount On your left palm, and rub vigorously With your right hand, and massage gently Your frontal lobe; apply more if necessary Now wait just for a couple of minutes Notice that the heat is starting to permeate; And your mind begins to take a deep breath From its calming and soothing effect And now you're feeling a whole lot better You're acting like a normal person again And now you're ready to write your poem If all else fails, repeat everything from step one iamthe_avatar ©2015
