#medals
I just won a medal
I wasn’t in a war
I think it’s made of gold
I don’t know what it’s for.
I’m shocked at what it weighs.
They threw me a parade
I got an honorary degree
Jimmy Fallon had me on TV
now everyone recognizes me
My old friends told me I was fickle
by the paparazzi I became heckled
I was notified that it’s ‘taxable’
It seemed the medal was quite valuable
I became afraid that it might be stolen
so I donated it to the Smithsonian.
Now that I’m not wearing it
people have started to forget
now no one buys me drinks
or cares about what I think.
I’m no longer on the Wheaties box
fame was a drug and I’m in detox
The whole thing was bizarre,
should I do ‘Dancing with the Stars’?
or simply let it go - fadeout gracefully?
I think anonymity suits me.

The row of medals
divert people's attention --
from his worn-out suit.

DPAA Hymn for Fallen Soldiers
by Michael R. Burch
Sound the awesome cannons.
Pin medals to each breast.
Attention, honor guard!
Give them a hero’s rest.
Recite their names to the heavens
Till the stars acknowledge their kin.
Then let the land they defended
Gather them in again.
When I learned there’s an American military organization, the DPAA (Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency), that is still finding and bringing home the bodies of soldiers who died serving their country in World War II, after blubbering like a baby, I managed to eke out this poem. Keywords/Tags: Fallen, Soldiers, Heroes, Patriots, POWs, MIAs, Stars, honor, guard, medals, honor, tribute, memorial

You don't get wise with last molar teeth,
Owl Baba is a living proof of the theory.
You can buy shooting medals,
And even a black belt in Aikido.

Give an eager FOX
MEDAL engraved
THE KING OF THE JUNGLE
All FELLOW FOXES know, who the king is
And the LION don’t bothers to prove it
Just
A ROAR is enough

Remember the Rush?
I do.
Remember the Feel?
I do.
Remember the time you felt alive and all was still?
The day you got that
That medal of yours
You thirsted for them
Had to have more
And you achieved another
Another achieved again
But that last accident threw you for a spin
And you’re on bedrest
You’ve lost some shine
Like those medals
These medals of mine...

“If I didn’t force you to do it you wouldn’t have gotten these medals”
If you didn’t force me to do it I wouldn’t have gotten these medals
“These aren’t accomplishments”
These aren’t accomplishments
“You don’t have any accomplishments”
I don’t have any accomplishments
“If it weren’t for me, you would have nothing”
If it weren’t for you, I would have nothing
“You should thank me”
I should thank you
No
If you didn’t force me to do it, I wouldn’t have done it
But I did do it
And those medals are mine
My accomplishments
I don’t care if 4th place isn’t good enough for you
I don’t care if you don’t think they’re accomplishments
Because I know they are
They are mine
Not yours
And maybe I should thank you
For making me realize
I don’t need your approval
Maybe I should thank you
For making me realize
I was being brainwashed
To think I’m worthless
Because now I know
Finally

Train spotted on ancient rail tracks
Mucks and grants on submerged pasts
Copper and ***** metal poles point
Upwards in heaven above the panelled tops
Price all the intentional conditioning
A paradise of self sufficiency
A dew of ranting , the metal raiding
Price the substitutional compressions
A timber frame of tunnels
The heightened temperature
Price and tag her beautiful mind
An attachment of glorified plinth
The punch of the chaotic medals
Pride and rearrange her plentiful plight
Show all her cast frame in crimson and greys

I should be given the gold medal for creating misconceptions
Cause i always accidentally start misunderstandings
With my poor word structure
A sad excuse for a poet like me

While I was rushing by
the old box caught my eye
Inside there's an illustrious past
All the medals
behind the glass
My father , a simple man
made his living with his hands
Who was this boy of seventeen
who left to serve for our country's gleam ?
The lad who rushed right in
Saved a pilot that crashed in wind
before the plane exploded in flame
Thinking of his own safety was so lame
His pilots , his planes , and his men
This was a war of will to win
