The Ventura City Council decided car-free sections of Downtown Ventura instituted to boost business during pandemic gathering restrictions will become a permanent fixture. But the ultimate fate of Main Street Moves (MSM) could depend on the outcome of two lawsuits filed by a group of nearby property owners.
A groundswell of community support for pedestrian zones on Main and California Streets led to the council’s Sept. 16 decision, which passed on a 6-1 vote with councilmember Jim Duran voting no. City officials said they were victorious at the Ventura County Superior Court level on the first MSM lawsuit, which is currently under appeal, and the other case is still pending trial.
Oxnard attorney Darin Marx represents property owners calling themselves Open Main Street. The Ventura County Reporter asked Marx if he or his clients wanted to share their perspective on the city council’s decision but nobody responded.
