#golions
The days are stitched
with small vignettes
like the neighbor in the pool league
who swears this season’s sweeter.
A baby down the block
battles bedtime like a tiny sun warrior,
eyes wide, fists curled,
refusing sleep while daylight charges on.
Someone else just learned to drive!
now cruises proudly in a Nissan Altima,
windows down, turning lessons
into freedom.
Two neighbors tend to their wild kingdom
of luffa vines
green ladders climbing the fence,
in the cucumber family!
And the young man who hung
seventy-three American flags
to celebrate new citizenship,
his wife’s hands resting on the quiet spring
growing in her belly.
Above us, a tired satellite
spins its final, faithful circles,
a slow farewell across the night sky.
Someone’s fireplace breathes
the same fragrant logs every evening,
curling smoke like a signature.
This spring, thirteen graduates
stepped into the world,
their footsteps still echoing. Go lions!
And somewhere in all this,
a tiny new hamster
scurries into sunlight.
a neighborhood alive.
so alive.
