Ferris Wheel
Have I been too long at the fair? by Michael R. Burch Have I been too long at the fair? The summer has faded, the leaves have turned brown, the Ferris wheel teeters, not up, yet not down . . . Have I been too long at the fair? NOTE: This is one of my earliest poems, written around age 15 when we were living with my grandfather within walking distance of the Nashville fairgrounds. I believe the Ferris wheel only operated during the state fair. So my “educated guess” is that this poem was written during the 1973 state fair, or shortly thereafter. I remember watching people hanging suspended in mid-air, waiting for carnies to deposit them safely on terra firma again. I ******* despise them. They’re actually the **** of all carnival rides. And they make my life hell. But you rode with me. And told me a story that weirdly actually calmed me. And you played Gary Come Home for me. So it wasn’t that terrible. You’re a great friend. Thanks.

Ferris Wheel
I went to the bottom Of your Instagram Today. Two years ago. I looked at the Black and White picture You took of me On the Ferris Wheel. All I could think was, Poor girl, Foolish girl, Stop that smiling like you love him, He's going to shatter you.

False Ferris Wheel Love
As the theme park gate opens Sounds of excitement filled the compound Little children, teenagers, grown ups Crowding the lines to rides and snack bars Joyful chatters Nonstop laughters Screams of thrill Cheeky giggles I go in circles to bring joy Especially when I stop for the ones at the highest point The smiles on their faces Feeling like they are on the top of the world Yet... *A lone stranger wanders around Climbed into one of the pods Locked himself in there His eyes watching the scenery blankly Tears started rolling down his cheeks Meekly, gently, discreetly But I see it I feel the droplets As it drips almost too carefully.. I felt his pain The sadness within So maybe... Just maybe... The peak would comfort him It will give the best view I'll provide it* But... The round will have to end I'll have to bring him back down to the ground And he will have to return home *Please... Can we go for another round? Just one more... So I could show him that view that I can provide Just one more time... Even if his tears would rust me Or even if it means he still has to leave At least I know And I'll remember I've made him happy*

Ferris wheel
I can't describe just how I feel, when I go round on a Ferris wheel, the lights, they shine so bold and bright, above the carnival grounds tonight. My mood is uplifted into the air, as my heart beats without a care, I feel so free, as if I could fly, with nothing between the ground and I. The cool night wind flows in my hair, the people look so small, way down there, I hold my breath as I go over the top, a feeling, surreal, I don't want to stop. As fear escapes and I enjoy the ride, I can't help but look down, over the side, I am up among the stars and the moon, an exciting feeling that ends, all too soon.

Ferris Wheel
I balance Rotating and fixed Upright Suspended freely Compelling insight Keeps me Remaining right side up As I revolve in this life Breaking the chains of Weak slavery in my Self created habits I reconstruct the wheel To appeal in an Exercise of wisdom Within the universal Kingdom of resurrected Light I am certain to follow My soul path as I journey Deeper into my heart For what I believe Controlled not by Useless desires Destroyed not By grief Rising Eyes wide open In relief I choose my trials wisely From this moment on I choose to learn For the last time Trials that no longer Promise to teach me Anything more In a golden ratio Of vibrating love I engage the power Of every beacon Every tower Resilient to Shine I choose to learn For the last time Trials that no longer Teach me Divine Mental powers expanding My cup of realization Has the capacity To hold an ocean Of understanding Awareness enlightening Brightening knowledge Surrounding me In footfalls Of cascading Arms and light Day and night Day and night I smile the indestructible smile Within this ferris wheel I balance Rotating and fixed Upright Suspended freely Compelling insight Keeps me Remaining right side up As I revolve in this life The milky serpents of stars above Reveal a code of comprehension For earth and celestial Apprehension A blinding A blurring Elements stirring Strength Great works of Perseverance unfold The beating sky beholds An invitation opening Beyond the gates of Heaven and hell Intertwined Break the Shell You are the master Of your ferris wheel tHE tERRY tREE

you would think a ferris wheel is fun. you would think a ferris wheel is romantic. you would think a ferris wheel is scary. but you should know a ferris wheel is plain stupid. because it is just a huge wheel, that spins round and round, not making a difference.
