#cornfields
1. Headlights glowed like cigarette ends in the twilight 2. As soon as they winked out in the warm, weedy field, and the harsh engine noise snapped into silence, I began to cry. 3. Father stepped quietly towards me and I sniffed as I smelled the earth I was digging, the sweat I was dripping, the carcasses I was covering. 4. Beneath the distant moon Father paused, watching me sift dirt over the remains of two limp goldfish. 5. The morbid scene glittered as moonlight sparkled off my tears and the half-buried scaled. 6. A small tribute to their salty home. 7. As if on cue, the wind ruffled the tops of the grain in the neighboring unshorn field; the undulating stalks mimicked the ocean. 8. Their grave remains unmarked.

Burial
Leave me in the past, leave me, I just want to be where I belong Leave me in the woods, in the forest amongst the noble trees and sturdy grounds, Leave me with the leaf that shuffles with the wind and hisses with the breeze, Leave me in the cornfields, under the golden God that makes me feel different about myself. Leave me when orange surpasses the green when yellow becomes so seen. I want to be left alone with my simplicity and spontaneity, I want to be left there away from the lights, gasps, and whispers … I want to return to my old self, to when innocence controlled my words and smiles never left my face. Leave me there, oh time and I’ll be just fine.

Leave me
Aimlessly through cornfields flying quietly and simply listening, to conversations to music that's not mine to laughing and memories being made. Going no where but not minding. Numbers fade from importance and the dials behind the wheel don't matter. Only the dirt, the road, the growing dark, no destination, no worries about going back. Changing sky, and the people you just met but are certain you can't forget.
