Yeats We breathe and so we write; the night hums softly its accompaniment. Pale phosphors burn; the page we turn leads onward, and we smile, content.      And what we mean we write to learn: the vowels of love, the consonants’ strange golden weight, each plosive’s shape— curved like the heart. Here, resonant,... sounds’ shadows mass beneath bright glass like singing voles curled in a maze of blank white space. We touch a face— long-frozen words trapped in a glaze that insulates our hearts. Burch There is a small cleanness about her, as if she has always just been washed, and there is a dull obedience to convention in her accommodating slenderness as she feints at her salad. She has never heard of Faust, or Frost, and she is unlikely to have been seen rummaging through bookstores for mementos of others more difficult to name. She might imagine “poetry” to be something in common between us, as we write, bridging the expanse between convention and something . . . something the world calls “art” for want of a better word. At night I scream at the conventions of both our worlds, at the distances between words and their objects: distances come lately between us, like a clean break. We ditched the red wheelbarrow in slovenly Tennessee, then made a picturebook of poems, a postcard for Tse-Tse, a list of resolutions we knew we couldn’t keep, and asylum decorations for the King in his dark sleep. We made it new so often, strange newness, wearing old, peeled off, and something rotten gleamed—dull yellow, not like gold— like carelessness, or cowardice, and redolent of *** We stumbled off, our awkwardness—new Keystone comedy. Huge cloudy symbols blocked the sun; onlookers strained to see. We said We were the only One. Our gaseous Melody had made us Joshuas, and so—the Bible, new-rewrit, with god removed, replaced by Show and Glyphics and Sanskrit, seemed marvelous to Us, although King Ezra said, “It’s S--t.” We spent unhappy hours in Our Kingdom of the Pea, drunk on such Awesome Power only Emperors can See. We were Imagists and Vorticists, Projectivists, a Dunce, Anarchists and Antarcticists and anti-Christs, and once We’d made the world Our oyster and stowed away the pearl of Our too-, too-polished wisdom, unanchored of the world, We sailed away to Lilliput, to Our Kingdom by the See and piped the rats to join Us, to live unmerrily hereever and hereafter, in Our Kingdom of the Pea, in the miniature ship Disaster in a jar in Tennessee. Alina loves to draw mermaids and believes her fingers will eventually grow out. Although I am only four years old, they say that I have an old soul. I must have been born long, long ago, here, where the eerie mountains glow at night, in the Urals. A madman named Geiger has cursed these slopes; now, shut in at night, the emphatic ticking fills us with dread. (Still, my momma hopes that I will soon walk with my new legs.) It’s not so much legs as the fingers I miss, drawing the mermaids under the ledges. (Observing, Papa will kiss me in all his distracted joy; but why does he cry?) And there is a boy who whispers my name. Then I am not lame; for I leap, and I follow. When I learned there’s an American military organization, the DPAA (Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency), that is still finding and bringing home the bodies of soldiers who died serving their country in World War II, after blubbering like a baby, I managed to eke out this poem. How Could I Understand? by Michael R. Burch The intense heat and light of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb blasts left ghostly silhouettes of human beings imprinted in concrete, whose lives were erased in an instant. How could I understand that light might be painful? That sight might be crossed? How could I understand the cost of my ignorance, or the sun’s  inflorescence? Supposedly, Merlin transformed Uther Pendragon to look like Gorlois so that he could sleep with Ygraine, the lovely wife of the unlucky duke. While Uther was enjoying Ygraine’s ********** Gorlois was off getting himself killed. The question is: did Igraine suspect that her lover was not her husband? Regardless, Arthur was the child conceived out of this supernatural (?) encounter. That night, at Tintagel, there was darkness such as man had never seen . . . darkness and treachery, and the unholy thundering of the sea... In his arms, who can say how much she knew? And if he whispered her name . . . “Ygraine” . . . could she tell above the howling wind and rain? Could she tell, or did she care, by the length of his hair or the heat of his flesh, . . . that her faceless companion was Uther, the dragon, and Gorlois lay dead? Burch The matters of the world like sighs intrude; out of the darkness, windswept winter light too frail to solve the puzzle of night’s terror resolves the distant stars to salts: not white, but gray, dissolving in the frigid darkness. Move the reader, and the world will not reprove the idiosyncrasies of too few lines, too many syllables, or offbeat beats. It only matters that she taps her feet or that he frowns, or smiles, or grimaces, or sits bemused—a child—as images of worlds he’d lost come flooding back, and then... they’ll cheer the poet’s insubordinate pen. Yeats We breathe and so we write; the night hums softly its accompaniment. Our gaseous Melody had made us Joshuas, and so—the Bible, new-rewrit, with god removed, replaced by Show and Glyphics and Sanskrit, seemed marvelous to Us, although King Ezra said, “It’s S--t.” We spent unhappy hours in Our Kingdom of the Pea, drunk on such Awesome Power only Emperors can See. We were Imagists and Vorticists, Projectivists, a Dunce, Anarchists and Antarcticists and anti-Christs, and once We’d made the world Our oyster and stowed away the pearl of Our too-, too-polished wisdom, unanchored of the world, We sailed away to Lilliput, to Our Kingdom by the See and piped the rats to join Us, to live unmerrily hereever and hereafter, in Our Kingdom of the Pea, in the miniature ship Disaster in a jar in Tennessee. When I learned there’s an American military organization, the DPAA (Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency), that is still finding and bringing home the bodies of soldiers who died serving their country in World War II, after blubbering like a baby, I managed to eke out this poem. i lack inspiration, the key concept of my heart's anticipation, the longing of my soul, has become my lifelong goal. it wasn't that easy, finding an inspiration where you can learn deeply, the bad side of it was you're hurting badly, so that you can produce something appropriately. if finding an inspiration is no easy task, learn to love yourself, present, future and past, don't depend on others, for they will not last. be your own story, your walking diary and dictionary, snippets of different life events, given a twist of melody. as I learn to find inspiration, not only poems are my composition, songs has been put into action, driven by the heart. given with my own timeline, i can say hiatus has been worthwhile.

inspiration, where to find one
The music that lingers in my mind when I awaken is the rhythm of a life of which I dream to live. If I could get these symphonies unlocked from the rooms in which they reverberate and boom, I would finally be who I know I should be, but the rhythm's undone when I do come too; I'm only ever left with the conclusion that made my psyche break through- A conclusion without the question, a harmony without a melody, a melody without rhythm, a break without a build, a crescendo undeserved. I carry with me back to consciousness no evidence of the brilliance observed; no tally or tale or the things seen and heard. But I know that I saw them; I know what I heard. I feel the rhythm inside me and I hear the words. I remember the beats and the lost melodies. Never-the-less... they are incomplete... just like me. A clip of a phrase left to rattle around. An earworm set to unheard sound. *"Dont be afraid to get too wild"* These dreams are the compositions of some other soul The music and musings of minds not my own but I wonder in the early morning grey, Do the people that I dream to be also dream of being me? *I awoke from a dream slowly Sweet docile tones reverberating in my ears; and as I came too with a rhythm and the words that broke through. I tried to hold onto them as long as I could do, but never can I keep them for more than a moment, maybe two. It’s infuriating and frustrating, because there is no way to capture the song that I heard: just the shadow of some snippet sneaking out the back door with the rest of the gang that got away already before getting caught in the midst of their thievery, when the man whom they are robbing walks in the front door And there never has been. I am no musical genius, but I know a good song when I hear one, And I’ve heard such wondrous things cascading through my dreams Less now than before, but I still find myself hallucinating wild bebop jazz with muted trumpets and silky strings, big band ballad piano swings, deep-trance and euro-house dance floor thumpers, chaotic digital jungle themes, indigenous rain-dance chants against primal drumming, Searing thrash metal with string burning sweeps of perfect improvisational leads, Merengue and Samba and Flamenco beats, with lyrics in languages I do not speak. In my dreams they are full compositions, with layers and evolution and meaning; I just can't recall all the words and have not enough talent and knowledge of things to transcribe the notes in corporeal means. Most importantly, the music of a mind’s eye or ear is not the music of the world, so I have no way to recreate the rhythms or melodies. Mostly because I don't know where to begin. Because the inception of the song, in reality or dream, is always a fugue of some other innocuous thing; some music or rhythm that broke away from the meaning it has in the world and echoed until it became a song I heard.* But I swear god once promised me, In a vision unseen that when I die, if I get to heaven, The songbooks are waiting, fully annotated, with lyric transcriptions printed up nice and neat, and not only can I see the compositions of these, but there are recordings of all of it. Everything! That's the only heaven I want there to be: The one with the words I lost in my sleep, And the music of my hallucinations and dreams. The soundtrack to my subconscious is something to be heard. It’s too bad the world will never know of these things, the mind music mingling amongst the mist of my dreams. Such beauty deserves to be heard By those here among us who love, live, and suffer, who dance, cry, and sing. But alas it is only a fantasy for me. But it will be tremendous to finally free the muses best work when I inevitably meet the maker of the muses and the music and me; But until then the world will just have me to trust. I promise. My tears draw the aerial view of a thick wood, where the hands of a ghost, carved an easel whose flavour brims my mouth with crimson and purple. Inspiration. My tears draw the shattered background of a blurred photo of green patches hanging on an empty road. Grief. My tears draw branches of olive trees kissing the foam of the sea of sigh and whispers. Melancholy. My tears draw palm lines. They read long life and well being. Betrayal. My tears draw the shape of his eyes, wide open on my consistency, as vibrant as a melody of an arcane chant, the fingerprints of his protective gestures, the circle of fire of his embrace. Love.

Love is the whole thing, everything in this world; - you can do either good or bad, right or wrong, in kindness or selfishness - literally just for ourselves or to anyone else we genuinely love. Love has it all labels – it’s all about us how we give love neither an evil nor a brilliant name.

I dream of a composed future Of better composition than this rhyme One where my eyes ignite at the sight Of opportunity to bring forth old time And to replace each painful breath with Another's aspiration, who's be similar to mine I dream of a collected future Better still than this collection of lines One where I only hear peace like In nearby fields, where Another can gather this rationale So may his fingers be with hers intertwined I dream of a fulfilled future For it's merely half full, at this time One with the sensation of Elation, relief and no condemnation Solitude with her, from the past Simplicity making this last, the Serenity within that they both share I dream of a future, I know that isn't there.
