#cliches
"Let’s circle back,” said the square to a circle of friends – a bit offensive, when you tell two skeletons to have some skin in the game – _that’s your own bone to pick._ But tell me, what’s a bed of roses without a sheet; the two get tangled in the sheets when they’ve tied the knot. But what really trips me up is, "falling head over heels," I’ve got two left feet, so how badly will this affect me? _Cliché much…_ Yes, I do say – when I’m bit under the weather of a Perfect storm; but even as the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, someone picking out your own pride in your children, is low-hanging fruit. And how long it takes you to understand my humour; others would name the seconds it takes them to get my jokes, in the Nick of time. _I’ve given these cliches their love._

Lawrence Hall [email protected]   https://hellopoetry.com/lawrence-hall/ poeticdrivel.blogspot.com But Which Jaw Drops – the Upper? Or the Lower? An advert assures us its product is jaw-dropping If true, this loss of body parts would be painful And which part of the purchaser’s jaw drops? The upper jaw? The lower jaw? The set? Given our recent experience with Nile.com We can’t be sure of both jaws for one price The advertisement might be for a set of jaws But the small print says you have to pay extra For a complete jaw-jaw As a dime-store guru from the 60s might ask What is the sound of one jaw dropping? Dropping Dropping Dropping (Clunk!)

In my dream last night someone said they'd seen you I saw a strand of red hair that I was being too optimistic to recognise as my own there was nothing I could remember it's really not much and I know you're not coming back but these moments give me something something like some part of you still being here even if it's just me something like you'll turn around any second something like you'll be back soon (One day I'll be older than you were) You turn to me our eyes are the same but yours are bigger with concern you say but... there's no connection wringing your hands out like a cloth you don't understand a letter addressed directly to my inner saboteur an answer for everything comes out of my closed mouth suddenly an adult you weren't ready for with a wry smile isn't that the whole point? I'm the thing that's still here and I don't think you're stuck up there anymore in the stratosphere

Under the Weather
most of my stories i have no name for i cant really express how a title can change the story its like a person with an assigned name and you expect them to live that name for instance, Ashley she is a fun loving blonde or brunet, who loves to party she dresses in ripped jeans and crop tops, that may be a little too short Or Jessica who is the meanest ***** in the school she wears maxi-skirts and sparkly tops, that always accentuate her chest the stereotypes that live in highschools strangle everybody who fits within them even if they aren't them Ashley just wants to be called Ash and wear baggy T-shirts and sweatpants Jessica wants to be called Jess and go by They/them pronouns People should be able to fit on where they want not where they have to to survive

Expectations
My life like soft grey clouds floats in front of me. I see pictures of past cliches- flashbacks of heartbreaks, And some of love and warmth. I grab from these pictures a few abandoned dreams, before they disappear in the thin air. I choose merrily, I choose merrily what's mine.

The choice
What happens when every image becomes a cliche? No one has had an original thought in years, what makes you think you are any different? Sculpting language so meticulously, like you're the first to compare to seasons. I bet you write about writing, too. Pathetic. Love is not a feeling, it's a force. The words write themselves and purely use you as a vessel. Somewhere back in time we did a seance of sorts and now sometimes poetry drops in like a demon, possessing the mind which tells the hand to pick up a pen. Demons, whatever that means to you, do not answer demands. They play their own game, which we are indeed a part of, though we were never invited to play.

A Desire for Demons
Yes, maybe sometimes I speak in clichés, Or maybe metaphors some of my days. Maybe you don't understand my rhymes, Or can't keep up with the dictionary's changing times. Even if you don't understand this art, Know that I'm a poet who speaks from the heart.

sad cliches
Everyone wants to say Something just, important Even with time That will keep Unlike the strawberries From friday market Puppies, Grandmothers and Young Lovers I guess strong emotions Make us fall Back to old words Naysayers for cliches They say make Bright days A pain to hear I'll let you decide For yourself

Old Words
How Are You: The Unpredictability They almost always start the conversation With “How are you?” You say “Fine”. It is the norm. Time-honored, automatic, form expected. Yet, you reach an age Where you no longer fit the norm accepted, And you hesitate, Waiting just a little bit ‘fore voicing back. Unpredictable tomorrow: Routine ailments, triumphs, sorrow; Unpredictable around-the-clock. Is it wrong to linger? Wait to answer? I think not. To blur convention, slur cliché, You spur [real] candor For the day. When they ask you how you are, Think of instability And take a second to reply. How Are You: The Unpredictability 8.9.2017 Circling Round Reality; Definitely Didactic; Arlene Corwin

How Are You: The Unpredictability
One wants six of one, or half dozen of the other Because he'll cook a fine kettle of fish. Fully aware he can't please everyone For some see the grass is always greener on the other side. So, he's busy, meets oneself coming and going, And knows, come hell or high water, That there's no time like the present. Busy as a bee, one prepares the meal. He's a book you can judge by the cover. One quips, The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I knew he'd say that. One's words speak louder than actions. One's enough to **** off the Pope. Believe me, I have an axe to grind, And I'm at my wit's end. Better safe than sorry, Avoid one like the plague.

A Word to the Wise
This is a cliché for you. I would decorate you.   in these rows of letters, maybe paint it on your skin because just saying it isn't enough. I want to see it. I want to hold a mirror to you and me, and say, See baby, don't you see? So, I write it and hold your hand and kiss your cheek, my head on your shoulder. If only I could give a touch of the love you give to me.

Baby, Don't You See?
She has constellations on her skin And galaxies in her eyes She is a work of art Worth more than all in The Louvre Her hands touch everyone's soul And her laugh is a breath of life She's astounding, yet doesn't know it Your dream used to be To show her her worth But now she's gone And left you in the shadows

Cliches
I am a cliche poet. I compare most of your parts To the cosmos; I refer to love as immortal, The soul as ethereal, The spirit as bird-like, Death as a cave, surely dark and lonely, And nature has a magnificient part With all its pathetic fallacies, Sunrises, sunsets, tides. I once compared a man's legs To an aerial roadmap, And a ***** to a bull frog In the Savanah. O, the crosses I've borne to explain saying I love you Without sounding trite. I may resort to prose And dress up the poetric mantra.

I'm a Cliche Poet
Seduced by clichés of love, We signed on for wedding doves, Being at those wedding receptions, All clichés of norms' conventions, Having a cream puff wedding day, An expensive way of getting laid, All clichés for the bridal industry, Trite cant, and hypocrisy, BUT--the appliances outlived everyone!! Wedding gifts when once were young, On film noir weddings I ponder on, As these golden years I wander from, All that phony hypocrisy, Cliches and norms of society, D.I.V.O.R.C.E. (Who didn't hate going to the in-laws for tea?)
