Through my window
There used to be a world of light
Tall trees with yellow flowers
A dense foliage in the summer sunrise
And parrots that sat on my windowsill
I haven’t seen them in a while.
Now concrete structures
Of brilliantly tall heights
Glimmer and flicker
From golden tube lights
Man-made buildings so mighty
They block the dawn from my eyes.
Five, six, seven years it took
From null to blocking my view
I’m not one to hate the tall skyline
But God, I miss the sunrise.
Now I have to move here and there
To just glimpse at the first light
That shone through my curtains
Opening my sleeping eyes.
And it was Saturday morning
My father and brother used to
Wake me up for swimming
And my mother used to make us juice
To drink by the poolside.
It was the magic of childhood
Now covered with the hardness of life
But man, I miss the view
Of the sunlight pouring into my eyes.
