#banality
If you were to ask me what boredom was, I’d tell you were boring and to stop asking stupid questions, but if you really persisted, I would tell you boredom is the tick tock on the white clock on the white wall of your childhood maths classroom. it’s the thrill of seeing how many dried crackers you can cram into your mouth before your mouth becomes a cracked and dried desert. Boredom is making up haikus, Alone but not quite knowing, How many syllables go on each line Boredom is haikus. Boredom is the decapitation of innocent grass blades as you listen to an unenthused sports teacher, the blood of your unwitting enemies splattered on your fingers. Boredom is this boring poem

Boredom.
And here am I, So terrified by the scale of it all, That I must escape into banality.

Banality
Sara L Russell, 15th January 2016, 00:04 ------------------------------------------------------------------- So yeah this is me and Julie outside H&M;… trying too hard to look **** Desperate tarts more like. We went to Starbucks after that, then the pub, and then… the rest of the afternoon's a blur. Haha. ----------✿----------- Oh yes and this one's me with Foo Foo, stupid cat's sitting on top of my presentation. She can be useless at times but she makes a good hot water bottle when it's like, really cold? You know? Cats are great for that. Dead sympathetic too. Good listeners. ----------✿----------- Oh now this is a good one. This is me with that **** actor off I'm a Celebrity. He was in… actually I can't remember what he was in? Really like, **** though? Yet I've only seen him on I'm a Celebrity? Anyway he was cool with stopping for a selfie. God love him. (Whoever he is). ----------✿----------- Ahh… this one is me with Julie again. She's such a ****** She's got one of those light up Santa hats on. Daft ***** Never did get one for me. Not that I'd wear one. I prefer those furry reindeer antlers. See? There's one of me with antlers on. ----------✿----------- Oh here's one of me and Mum. Yeah very sad I know. She tries so hard to be cool, bless her. Embarrassing really. I gave her my old phone and she still hasn't worked out how to use it. Takes loads of photos of herself though. So sad.

Queen of the Selfie
The things we say to one another: we could choose to make them mean something. I could tell you that I love you, even though we've never really met. You could tell me that you're dying and it scares you. We could talk about the rise and fall of injection-moulded empires, the rise and fall of your mother's chest, as she took her last breath. We could vow to behead tyrants together. We could promise that we'd never fall victim to that same sickness. We could compare our hurts and find a connection in our mutual pain. We could try to share our loneliness, and maybe the world would be less lonely. Or at least we could speak, like you're a person and I'm a person, like we're both made of the same beautiful, doomed matter, only separated by social convention and accidental skin; we could say something worth saying. Instead: plastic bag tax, The Match, weight loss and where to buy the best factory-seconds shoes, the televised finals of something or other, the rising cost of corned beef, the obligatory conversation piece about the weather. Can't we talk just a little bit bigger than this?

Talking Small
I want to hate you To crawl inside My own stomach and die While you fly With your greedy suicide Dissecting and erecting Monuments to your opulence Your eyes gleam with Unattained wealth You cannot help yourself The media tells you what to want Which block is the best block Were you want to shop How to stop the clock And fear, fear, fear And cheap beer, beer Oh my deer The headlight home in On your definition of sin But the only sin I see Is that you believe This is how life is supposed to be

The Trap
This moment someone Runs down a staircase And out the front door This moment a planet Crash into a distant sun Million years from here This moment a child Helpless and lost Cries out of sheer fear This moment banality Is **** on your jeans Hope but only sorrow This moment somewhere Someone give birth And someone is dying This moment blood Runs out of an animal A human is slaughtered This moment a song Runs out of lines And out of tune

This Moment
Banality reins supreme In our children’s dreams. What do you expect When principles defect And brand names Mark the scene, When rock stars sell their souls To executives in suits, Make perfumes From their dance room sweat And wear expensive boots, Then slap their name On random **** And sell how nice and cute Their clothes look on baby girls They know we can’t refute. As if they write their music, Or pen their awful hits, ******* souls for millions; Tear integrity to bits. When art is lost for money, And the formula is the norm, When thousands gyrate madly To aural chloroform, When children posture wildly In photos with no shame And send them to their idols Who don’t care to carry blame, When all we know is taken, Corrupted and perverse, And all our keen philanthropy Is squeezed into a hearse, When there’s nothing left But adverts on our doors, And mindless dancing robots Falling to the floor, Then we might just notice How much we had to lose When we turned our children loose To tie up their own noose. No matter how steep the cost, There’s always room to climb As soul-less music moguls Wrangle for a dime.
