She floats free from her own body's outer reaches: The mirrorball and the mystic circle. The mirrorball is a light for attracting attention. Nicotine lizard fresh from film school, and his molten young interceptors with corduroy legs, scouting for girls any way, shape, or form, pinpointing them in alphabetical order. Flashing red light means go: pretty Eve in the tub, lit from underneath, she sun shines, her back to the prehension from a survey of hands and power tools. No tan lines, the boundaries of this celluloid garden begin at her knees --a fleshprint, start the Van de Graaff and watch as she reels the far faded whispers of carnal quicksand. The couple who plays together Strays together. Argue it out in the car Or go home now. Right off of the 7 train, Irish Catholic schoolgirls spilling out of Jahn's like marbles Their plaid skirts against exposed brick bellies full of kitchen sink The produce stand next door eggs .60 a dozen, milk one dollar Now converted into a bodega or maybe even a small Muslim prayer room I bought my first album at a record store on 82nd The brown paper bags, thin as bible pages It spun on the Victrola in my parents' Tudor The yellowing wallpaper smelled of my mom's Virginia Slims And sounded of my dad's Vermouth His own liver fried with onions, just as he liked it

Their velvet voices softer than their growling, grovelling masks onstage, Their words full of electric promise that dazzle a new generation in new times, Transcending the blur of decades to provide hope for lost souls.
