We fall down the steps
we worked so hard to climb.
Gone,
destroyed,
in minutes.
Power to the few,
Power over the many,
to control their destiny,
to chose their fate,
while they fly on the wings of desire.
All we can do is
get back up
and fall
again.
It's 2 a.m.
Time to go
Get on the road again
Shower, shave
and grab some joe
I am a workin' man

Each day
my routine
one...two...three
it is
the thing
that makes me me

A working man,
Hard workin' man
I do what must be done
I'm up each day
while it's still dark
And I'm not finished till the sun....

goes down
driving cross the land
I'm up at two
In bed by ten
I am a workin' man

I never
seem to
find the things
To love
What working
hard may bring

My truck
all loaded
Time to hit the road
the alarm
goes off
inside my head

I spend
most of
my life alone
it's me
my truck
and the road

it's 2 a.m.
it's time to go
I am a working ma
shower, shave
that cup of joe
workin' makes me who I am

It’s six to two
Then staying till close
It’s overtime
Trying to find
Someone to watch the kids
It’s broken down car
When your job
Is out of town

It’s trying to decide
If you keep the lights
While eating Ramon tonight
Or if you eat something
Just a little more tasty

It’s a bottle of no doz
Cups of coffee
Twenty four ounce soda
Energy drinks
That rot your teeth
But falling asleep
On your aching feet
Isn’t an option

It is exhaustion
So deep that you can’t think
Tension so painful
That you can’t sleep

It’s a frustrated boss
Taking it out on you
No matter what you do
Because you are there

It’s grease so thick
That you can’t wash it
Out of your greying and receding hair

It’s numbing your spirit
All week long
And hoping you don’t get called in
On your day off
Cause you can’t turn it down
Cause you’re so far in debt
That you might as well
Be six feet under the ground

It’s a ticket
For something you didn’t do
Based on a bus drivers
Bad attitude
Five hundred dollars
And it also costs you

Your license
You lose your job
You lose the lights
You lose the water
You lose your house
You lose your kids

Cause you are always
One bad day
From total devastation

I'm kinda on that boarder
between tipsy
and really drunk
maybe a couple more
to obliterated
it's not making me feel better

Look at ME

Finish the conversation
With ME

Share ALL of the information
So I can respond appropriately

Allow me to do MY job
Allow me to be ME
Allow me to be happy
Allow me to be joyful
Allow me to love

Stop assuming you know it all
And don't need to verify my truth
You are wrong as often as you are right
And sometimes more wrong than that

I am this person who deserves her own voice

They say when life hands you lemons make lemonade
But how can I do that in the pouring rain
When I'm all out of sugar
And misplaced my pitcher and cup
It feels like there's no way to whip it up
So I'm stuck with these lemons
And nothing to do
Oh how I wish I could make a switcheroo
I'd chose something sweeter than lemons
But I can't and I won't
So I guess I'll stick with this poem that I wrote

Stepping out of bed listening to
Sun Araw yelp like a cat on marijuana
and wondering if we're all the spawn
of some great singular being.

Lying in your work clothes,
lying to yourself about showing up late
working towards that infinite nothing,
wondering why people expect dreams
out of people, instead of just
give some mercy to the suffering.

Talking about age makes me want to die young.

It's pink and orange and soon it's blue,
but it's still the loveliest most childish
painting the sun has ever spread out
for your eyes to see.

Put on work boots for a job that'd
be just fine with sneakers.
Get your ducks in a row,
and let the cute girls with
big eyes and colored hair
shoot them down
one by one
by one.

A gentleman
Never forgets
The heartbreaks
That made him
Who he is today,
Nor does he forget
That the lessons
Will continue.
A gentleman
Will keep learning,
Forever,
As long as he remains
True to himself,
And the things
for which
He stands.
