You can't separate
the actor from the character
they're not mutually exclusive
but brutally intrusive.

We put a little bit of ourselves
into the roles that we act
extracts of our souls
dripping out
slowly bleeding our hearts dry
from acting out our parts

Pouring everything
into faux characters
to engage with our rage
while onstage
unknowingly
constructing our own cage

We think no-one can see
the lies we tell
when we wear our masks
but our eyes betray us
with irises on fire
arises our desire
from the words we yell

Burning eyes behind stone masks
that shows them our hell
Just something I've noticed, Tell me what you think!

I tread on the tightrope
Suspended between thinking too little
And thinking too much

I balance precariously
Tiptoeing towards optimism
But humanity sways me
And I shakily creep
Towards despair

The costume chafes
There is not enough chalk on my shoe
The lights are too bright
And a pearly bead of self-awareness
Trickles past my temple
And drips on the dirt baseness
A thousand feet below

And yet--

The crowd smiles
And gasps
And cheers
And claps
And I am reminded
That everything
Is a show

So I smile
And I bow
With a flourish
And I soak in the adoration

And try to forget
That the struggle repeats
Each night
In each town

But the show can
And does
Go on

perform
who knew that word would mean so much to me?
To perform means to have faith and courage and confidence
If i didn't have it i don't where I'd be today.
Performing has made me realize how fun life can be.
Being able to Perform gives me a chance to free myself and become someone
Different.

Now, people may call me a strange individual and they may be true,
But they can never tell me to change who i am because they've never been in my shoes.

Performing.
Whether I'm acting, dancing, or singing
The stage is my home
And no one's ever going to the that away from me.

spelling it backwards is so easy
it flows through my veins
And lives in my soul
It's the only thing that keeps me whole
Sane, at ease

Performing is me

One side of who I am.
One characteristic that you are seeing, up on the stage.
I am like water, free to flow
Becoming someone new, for each separate show.
My body is my instrument, muscle to joint, from hip hop to ballet, my feet are on point.
My voice like velvet, soft on the ears, yet I can sing strong and free, showing strength being my years.

Performing's in my blood
It's never going to go away
And I'll have my time to shine
One day... One day

your lungs are struggling for air as you try to remind them to breathe
your heart is beating so fast you think it might rip right out of your chest
your throat is tightening as though there is a noose wrapped around your neck
your palms are sweaty and your head is buzzing as you struggle to keep your cool
you become so conscious of your movements that you can feel the hairs on the back of your neck prickling in discomfort
you begin to shake uncontrollably and you are convinced that you're about to ricochet around the room
you are so aware of everything that is going on that you cant enjoy it and you cant ******* breathe
you end up getting so worked up about it you can't think straight, let alone control the redness taking up permanent residence in your cheeks

somewhere along the line you let go and your heart rate slows, you enunciate your words and you don't miss a beat. you may become conscious of this, and you may not. either way you've done it. either way you've regained control and nothing or no one can stand in your way

Being an actor or actress
Doesn't mean you are on broadway,
Or a star of a hit reality TV show.

Being an actor or actress
Means you step onto the stage
And give it your all.
You accept the spotlight
Not as a blinding piece of equipment,
But as a sun shining on you,
Bringing you to life.
When you hear the term
Break a leg
You form a grin,
Knowing it's not literal.
When the laughter
Of a crowd on opening night
Encourages you and gives you hope.

Being an actor or actress
Isn't about the flowers
Or the repetitive good jobs after a show.
Being an actor or actress
Is about the butterflies you get
Before you go on stage.
It's about the energy you feel
When you and your cast
Do something spectacular
On stage.

Being an actor or actress
Is an outlet from the real world.
It allows you to step onto stage
And forget about the boy
Who broke your heart,
Or the money struggles,
Or the bombs going off
In other countries.
It allows you to step into
A new and exciting universe,
Where nothing else matters except,

Being an actor or actress.
