As much a testament
to current reality
as any babbled, 24 hour, rolling drivel
from partisan spokesfolk
who affix the yoke of profit
by making and driving the wedge

In the wide awake courtroom,
alone, maybe 3 A.M.
you can hear the truth,
have the human faculties,
can see the evidence,
even if the verdict hurts

It’s less painful than making eye contact
with a mirror image who allows
the lies
the loss
the inhumanity
just to heal a bruised ego
and still not sleep easy

Take to the streets
and beat them with kindness,
club them with your decency,
ram home an ideology
to show that looking after our weakest
saves us all

hobble them with thumps
that scream
a little love goes a long way

that those that aren’t the same as you
in hue or shape or song,
if hearts are good,
belong in your world

cut them to the quick
with cameraderie
support and tolerance
destroy their unjust fears
and crush their tribalism

In cracking hard heads
the only death we’ll see
is a diseased past
which, unlike other countries
races or creeds,
needs to be lost and forgotten

Holding on to painful glories
costs more than the oxidised bronze
of an old man’s statue

Blunt words can bruise my mind
But looks can cut like scissors
I am colour-blind
But can see your hate glowing red
In the thoughts pre-defined
Of who you see through covered eyes
Do you see a woman of humankind?
Or I am the alien born of your ignorance?
How can you live in a world so confined?
Where hate lives under a tainted rainbow
Was it rooted when young, or was it streamlined?
I wonder how would it have been, if you had awoken
Into a world that was colour-blind.
To see we are living in the same human skin

do you wonder who I am
by the words that I now write?

do you wonder how I look
an if my hair is steaked in white?

do you think I ride a broom
do you think I'm just a witch?
or I have some kind of powers
an I can charm a wooden switch?

well ...
I guess,
I can -

douse for water
an I've seen nightmares come true
I've seen the sky turn black once
an in a multi colored hue

well my Aurora Borealis
my mystic native lights,
an in the spirit of the animal,
yes amazing are the sights,

I don't know if I am special
tho my grandmother said I was
all I know is who I am inside,
please don't say that I am weird
or acting
kinda crazy
otherwise I'll only wish to hide,

I see so many things
that others just do not
and I am at a loss for as to why

but if I am just so strange
that you worry about my mind
perhaps you are not seeing
with your "eye"?

Just like the wind before it was named,
we were one.
Just like the skies--whether blue, black, or gray,
we were one.
Before time was night and day,
we were one.
And before water became seas, rivers, and lakes,
we were one.
But the colors became powers,
And these differences of ours,
Named the weak and the strong,
and the right and the wrong.
When freedom became property
And feelings became tragedy,
That's when love emerged a warrior,
And time a dictator.
Long were the days when life was like the wind
And the skies, and the day and the night.
And the seas and the rivers and lakes,
One before the reconstructions of time.
Long were the days of the free,
But those days were long gone.
And with every peek of the setting sun,
I remember the time,

When we were one.
