The music wasn't all that good.
But I didn't notice it that much
because I was lost in the
metaphorical resonances
of listening to a dead man's
favorite music.

It felt wrong,
holding a book while most others
held only tears and a bag of chips.

I wasn't a friend is his, and no.
We weren't related.
I'd never met him in my life
and yet there I stood,
mourning the loss of a man
with apparent terrible music taste.

Moral of the story:
Don't take a poet to the funeral of a man they've never met.
This was quite the experience to write!
I went to a public funeral with my dad for a man I didn't know because he was from my town.
It's a bit harsh, no?

Would you come to my funeral?
Would you be dressed in all black crying over me?
Would you have any regrets?
Would you wish youd done something sooner?
Would you mourn over me?
Would you even notice I was gone?
Would you even care?
Should I even ask?
do I dare?
If I were to die tomorrow
Would you even care?
Wrote this one in hopes someone wouldsee it. But i dont think she cares

Your heart is racing,
about to derail.
Your conciousness fading,
about to set sail.

Your eyes start to water,
as tears prepare to fall.
But you cannot allow it,
show no weakness at all.

Concentrate on your hands,
open the paper again.
Look through the words,
without taking them in.

Try not to break,
they're counting on you.
Shut out the pain,
it's all you can do.

The tears can come,
when your finally alone.
But not a second before,
now steady your tone.

Keep your voice natural,
so they know your ok.
The last thing they need,
is to worry bout you today.

Your knees may be weak,
and your stomach's in knots.
But give them a smile,
to steady their thoughts.

So think about anything,
other than what's tearing you apart.
They're counting on you,
so don't let the tears start.

You are their rock,
so never show them your sorrow.
Because they need your strength now,
and they'll need it tomorrow.

here's to the girl who caught his eye
the one he never had
always in his back of mind
forever dormant, undefined
but ever since they said goodbye
the thought had grown sad
the one he never had
here's to the girl who caught his eye
aye, the girl who caught his eye

here's to the girl who broke his heart
the girl he loved and lost
there for him when no one was
who stuck around him just because
before she ripped the world apart
and lived to see the cost
the girl he loved and lost
here's to the girl who broke his heart
aye, the girl who broke his heart

here's to the girl who loves him still
the girl who never strayed
through thick and thin she spurred him on
and even though he now is gone
and left her nothing in the will
she stands there, poised and staid
the girl who never strayed
here's to the girl who loves him still
aye, the girl who loves him still

If I were to die today,
I know what people will say
"She was this," and "She was that,"
But, I hope they're as cold as ice
because I was nothing but nice
to those who i felt derserved
to be in my mind forever preserved

but to get that high is quite hard
for the doors and windows are barred
and i'm curious to see as to who
you will see crying in a church pew
those that shed tears you'll know are lying
and the ones who are real will sit there defying
what they know there supposed to do
simply because i asked them to

-the not so dead girl
Why must you lie by crying?
